If you are adventurous, you can try the Mozilla Fennec.
Skyfire? I don't see that on my Omnia II...

Are there any performance differences with the new IH6 firmware?
Mine is I800XXIG1. Is it worth the upgrade because by upgrading I will lose all my data.

Oh yeah, add me into the list too... tongue.gif

actually you can tick the checkbox that says 'Preserve Device's Contents' to avoid losing data.....
*
aiks...did not see that. Will try upgrading later. Thanks!

QUOTE(thinakaran @ Sep 19 2009, 05:53 PM)
has anyone tried the GPS function?? using Map King or Garmin... enlighten pls wink.gif
*
I am currently using Garmin Mobile XT with MalfreeMaps. Software version id 5.00.20wp
One quirk for me though. When I first ran Garmin I had to stand under the clear sky and wait for more than 10 mins just to get a good lock.
After that attempt, now the GPS locks on quickly but of course it still can't beat external Bluetooth GPS devices especially the BT 737 A+. It locks in less than 10 secs, 50 sat. capability and double the sensitivity.

NAVFon? I don't have it on my phone either.
When I got my phone, it only comes with Adobe, Opera, Midomi, Office Mobile and the Touch applications. Down stock standard directly from Samsung. =S

Are your apps installed by Samsung itself or installed by your retailer?

aiks..my mistake. Found this web site.
http://www.asiagis.com.sg/agis2/info_samsung.php

Did a hard reset on my O2 on the 2nd day I got it. Crashed it while installing BlueInput. Explains why I lost that app.
Will install it now and test it out.

How bout NAVFon that comes with some Omnia 2 phones? Is it any better?

it comes with a free license from NAVFon.

aites dude.. let us know..

OK, tested it. Not exactly to my liking though. The layout is crude. Not as refined as Garmin Mobile XT. Maps are also not as detailed as MFM and MSM maps.
Looks like its more suitable for Singapore maps.
GPS lock on is about the same as Garmin's.
However, I need to set the GPS baud rate to 9600 for NavFone and 57600 for Garmin. As for me, I'll stick to my trusty ol' Garmin. smile.gif

this is the pouch I bought in Singapore S$18
*
Dang, been looking all around for that kind of casing... The stock pouch is troublesome. When someone calls me, by the time I managed to take my phone out... 1 miss call.
Too bad I'm staying on the other side of M'sia. sad.gif

The satelite lock for Omnia II is pretty slow on Garmin Mobile XT despite having XTRA/A-GPS support. Not sure if it works better on other software.
*
It is quite slow for the first startup. I guess its the weak antenna inside. When I first used the GPS it took me more than 10 mins to get a lock. After that it only takes less than a minute.

GPS lockdown speed is hardware matter, not software.
regardless of whether u use garmion or agis, the lockdown speed should be similar..
o ya...did u guys notice the gps extender slot when u open up the back case?
looks like those in my old dopod d810..
*
Couldn't agree more. smile.gif

Yep, I have noticed the GPS socket. Its an MCX connector. I have an external GPS antenna but I have no idea how to plug it in while keeping the back case closed.
A future custom or extra enhancement back panel, maybe? whistling.gif

interesting. i maybe interested in this device for my next try. i wanna test the gaming capabilities though. anyone available for a meet up in TTDI / 1U area? wanna install some games and test the hardware acceleration. will leave whatever i install in your phone  thumbup.gif

btw, why dont u guys use the standard 6.5 plug in instead of that touch wiz?

also, where do u guys go for your cooked roms? for HTC we go for XDA devs. for Samsung? are there any cooked roms?
*
3D gaming for the Omnia 2 is still in progress. This is because the O2 uses OpenGL ES V2 which provides big 3D improvements but unfortunately is not backward compatible with OpenGL ES V1.
This means that all current 3D games and applications (e.g. TouchFlo 3D, Asphalt 4 3D with IGP support etc.) will not work with the O2.....yet..
*cross fingers* There is a topic in Modaco on trying to create a compatibility layer for it.
More details on Modaco.

just got back, did a short survey at Lowyat

PDAExpert offering 8GB model for RM 2380 with free 8gb MicroSD and all their standard free package (screen protect & programs).
Without the SD card is RM 2350.
Theirs is FMG set with 12 mths warranty.

Samsung Mobile 1st floor (seller's name: LAM) selling for RM 2100, standard set/package only.
Theirs is Brightstar set with 12mths warranty.

The thing is from my survey some shop claimed that Brightstar set is actually AP set and FMG is the original ORI. wonder if that is REALLY true.  hmm.gif

Anyone has inputs or opinions on this??  shocking.gif  rclxub.gif
*
That's quick for a price drop. I bought mine from PDAExpert 3 weeks ago for RM2399 WITHOUT 8GB MicroSD card, FMG set. sad.gif

FYI, I am not sure about other companies but from what I know it is confirmed that FMG is the "sole" official distributor for Samsung mobiles, just like as Avaxx and Zitron for Nokia sets.

Hmm, the one he showed me just now was Brightstar, made in Korea.
Anyway, that doesn't matter.
the thing is, is Brighstar's really an AP set.
*
All Samsung Omnia II's are made in Korea. No difference between AP and Official set.
Package contents and warranty will be different though.
What you pay is what you get. smile.gif

OoOokkkk..... Didn't know there's a Brightstar around. unsure.gif

I think what ehsandy meant is the price difference.
Also, I have been checking Brightstar and FMG.
FMG is a multinational company headquartered at HK with other branches at USA, Dubai, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Philippines.
Whereas Brightstar is a local Malaysian company.
My mistake. Brightstar is also a multinational company. http://www.prnasia.com/pr/09/07/09466311-1.html 15 July 2009
Err...price difference... Introductory price, maybe? blink.gif

EDIT: Brightstar is HUGE. Bigger than FMG. HQ at USA with more than 40 branches around the world.

Anyway, I came across this. The Omnia II is confirmed with the codename I8000.
Look what I found at Brightstar's website...
I8003
Samsung Jet widely known as S8000 shows as I8003 on their site.
A variant or a typo?

just came back from low yat..skinned my phone at the same place ts did..bought a capdase anti-fingerprint screen protector for RM48 but i've made a mess of it..maybe i'll get it again someday..
*
The matte surface is sleek! Mine's glossy and all I see are my fingerprints. Love to have it on mine but is there any way to buy it online or Poslaju?
I am in Sarawak and till now I have not even come across it. Also looking for a flip case for my phone. Hate the standard one. Every time I accidentally pressed the "Reject and send SMS"... sad.gif

You mentioned that you skinned your phone and added a Capdase screen protector. Is the skin also matte like the Capdase?

hi guys,

i've been facing some strange problem with my omnia ii 2day
i received 2 calls from my friend, where they sound something like their sound being fast forwarded in a tape recorder
i cant even understand a single word
i need to hang up the line n call them again, then they sound normal
they said they heard the same thing from their end as well

i've never face this problem with my previous phones, is this something to do with omnia ii?
*
Is either of your number a 016 number?
Mine's a 019 number and a few times this week when I call to a 016 number only either on first call there is no voice, very bad static or super fast chipmunk voice like you experienced. 2nd call then ok. I think it could be a network problem.

guys..when i try to reply, it says my storage memory is not enough..and asked me to delete someĀ  files.
when i sync with my pc, it says my storage is only 179MB...wat is happening??? i tot omnia 2 should be 8GB?
*
Omnia II has three places to store data.
Main Storage: 512MB
Secondary Storage (aka My Storage: 8GB) and
Storage Card (Externel MicroSD card): Depends on card capacity.

Calendars, messages and core phone data will be stored in the Main Storage.
It could be that you have files in My Documents, My Videos, My Music and My Pictures on your computer and you have selected it for Syncing during the creation of a Windows Mobile Sync Partnership.

By doing this, it will be copied to your 512MB memory.
Not sure whether is your problem like this, but this has happened to me before.
Now, I strictly manually copy my videos and install apps and games to the 8GB Section.
I use WMP to sync my music to my O2, specially selecting 8GB as the target.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that you will not get the full 512MB storage for the first location, you will only get free space of 100MB-ish. The rest is reserved for the OS.

I found out that only on some occasions the mode button will light up. e.g. When typing SMS, the mode button lights up but when on Messaging main screen, it is dimmed.

one question, how good is it to text sms-es? it is easy and fast using both hand?
*
Depends. If your fingers are small, they you may be able to type faster. As for those with big hands (particularly the thumbs, like me), it takes getting used to. First week, I was constantly sending SMS with lots of typos , accidentally hitting the letter next to the the one I want.. (e.g. u becomes i, e becomes w etc.)

dear all sifu's, i have just installed the cameramute cab file. I thought with that i can turn the camera shutter sound on and off as i like. But now its completely mute. I tried to uninstall the file but I cant find it from the list of installed programs. Can anyone teach me how do i reverse this? thanks
*
What the cab does is overwrite the wav files with null, silencing all camera sounds. It does not make it selectable.

Head to your Windows Mobile's Windows Directory and remove these files:-
1. AutoFocus.wav
2. AutoFocusFail.wav
3. RecEnd.wav
4. Recording.wav
5. Shutter01.wav, Shutter02.wav, Shutter03.wav
6. ShutterContinuous.wav
7. ShutterSound.wav

Then do a soft reset. The deleted files will be restored with default factory ones.

PS: both Mapking and Google map also not working at all. Seems like it can't find the satelite...
*
Go to your GPS Settings and double check these settings:-
GPS Program Port: COM7
GPS Hardware port: COM9
Baud Rate 57600
Make sure 'Manage GPS automatically' is ticked then do a soft reset (Switch off phone then switch on again)

Then stand under clear sky and wait patiently....
I know, GPS lock for this phone can be a pain in the ........ sad.gif

Owwhh...Thanks 4d help...Ouuuch for O2....other than d screen, d fon is a superb~reli love dis fon..bt then when bring out, eheheheheh cant read =.= which is a pain~ blink.gif
*
Under display settings, you can try set the brightness to max...
And make sure the Auto Adjustment is not selected, its too sensitive to light changes.

With max brightness, its readable for me under the sun and battery lasts for 2 days, not a problem for me as I charge it daily.
If you have matte screen protector it REALLY helps sunlight readability and it also practically removes fingerprint smudges... smile.gif

Another thing, has anyone of you used any leather cases from Noreve? (www.noreve.com)
Contacted them and they told me that the casing for O2 will be released sometime within these 2 weeks.
Like the design, read excellent reviews but the price, kinda ouchy but tempting.

I asked about Vaja cases too (www.vajacases.com) but the rep told me they have not planned on developing one anytime soon...
Btw, my friends bought Vaja cases for their first generation Omnia. Its just sooo sleek...
I tried PDAir's, can't help it but it feels a little el cheapo...

Love that application. Disabled TouchWiz and then install this...
No lags at all. However, I realised that it consumes slightly more battery power when compared to using the older 3.01 version. After one day, my battery level would drop from 100% to 90%, with the new version, it drops to around 82-81%.
