No la bro, not because that. Just that I'm not planning to get any media player. If I do, TViX sould be considered into the list. nod.gif

I don't own any dedicated media player right now, so I won't be biased. smile.gif

Realtek RT1283 400Mhz

M6500A = old models + old hardware + mature firmware > can play bdmv + bluray-iso.
Sigma 8635 300Mhz.

Will it (6600) eventually support bdmv/bluray iso? Cause if not, what are the benefits of getting a 6600 when it is even more "crippled' than 6500 albeit the newer hardware.

Also, will it "play" mkvs better, in terms of PQ compared to its predecessor?

I just wished there's a player that plays BDMVs with full menu support. Hopefully this new 6600 will have that capability when the firmware matures.

since I don't have HD-dvd or .evo material, you will have to search for those FAQ for HD-dvd conversion to mkv..

wah audio portion = 16G?

MKV 1080p =/= HD-DVD's / BD 1080p.. video portion.. can confirm by bitrate to be sure.. MKVs even 1080p are still further compressed

Pardon my ignorance....the original HDDVD iso is 27GB, the copy I have has been compressed to just over 11GB in an mkv container. A while back, while comparing a 1080p Celine Dion Live in Vegas (over 8GB) against the BD iso file (84GB or something), I commented that my eyes were not really able to detect visible differences in PQ, but the AQ was vastly different. I was then made to understand that the AQ was greatly compromised/sacrificed when it was compressed, that the missing GBs was mostly audio data.

Having said that, the copy I have is great, a bit (haha!) lacking in audio bite, but PQ is brilliant. Too bad this concert not released in blu-ray format.

Nit-picking resumes now.....wink.gif

huh? MKV is the container.. you can make the size just as big as original H.264 video stream or compress smaller (while still maintaining the same resolution).. just need to recode it to the target bitrate/file size (and depend on 1pass or 2pass recode)

wow!! how many layer Blu-ray celine dion disc is that!! hmm.gif

as for bitrate, also require the equipment to "see" the highly compressed bitrates..

example, if you have 1080p projector and blow up to 100inches and sitting 1x distance, the differences will be very distinct..

if just watching on 40inch LCD/plasma sitting 8feet back..maybe not much difference depending on eyesight..... biggrin.gif

well eventually it will end up somewhere.. i can alwiz sit and wait until someone put that particular files on other option like torrent for example..which normally got a few more choices.. biggrin.gif

yeah that's y i ask.. since when u play BDISO most playback load wud be taken care by the GPU... n the recording/reencode process is by the CPU... that is y IMHO u can play BDISO smoothly n rip mkv at the same time.. biggrin.gif

anything crappier or older, powerdvd (dat time I use powerdvd) won't let me run la.. so have to use up to date GPU.. this one no need to ask also should know la..

why need HD capable AVR? can always,
1. use analog out brows.gif
2. LPCM it.. to a older AVR which accept multichannel LPCM

Guys, I got a little problem here with my 6500, can't seem to access the files that I shared from my pc using TViX net share, and this just happened today,
already set the static ip address and all, but still facing the same problem
another thing, I'm using Network Magic and it detects 6500 to be offline although the player itself is turned on ..
Or is the real problem with the LAN port?

still wasn't me... biggrin.gif as i know how DVico 6500a handles those BDMV/BDISO files..

as for price.. most non-Dvico user would always taruk DVICO for being pricey or 2 x competitor price as a simple method to justify the other media player is better.. biggrin.gif

I am contemplating between the 6500 and 6600 now. The only concern I have is the power port which is figure 8 instead of IEC, after market power cables are limited for figure 8 though.

It should look something like this.....

user posted image

The DVD IEC adapter (c7) enables you to use standard aftermarket power cords with your DSS, DVD, or CD player. There are TWO versions of this adapter. One is NON-polarized, and has a "figure 8" shape to it. The other is polarized, with one side of the figure "8" squared-off. All of these adapters have been Deep Cryogenically treated for maximum performance!

This is found at VH Audio and cost US$19.99 before shipping.

Guys, do you suggest me to buy Dvico or standalone BD player to play HD movies and sound?? There is a comparative difference between digital format stored in hard disk and optical disc like bluray disc rite?

There are minor differences when watching BD compared to digital (BD usually nicer), but there is also a major difference in price tag whistling.gif

Those formats uses compression to reduce the size of the files from Blu-ray original copies and store it in another format. There are various formats used.

How much compression used will determine the quality. Also the sound is mostly reduced from HD Audio to normal DD/DTS sound.

If you want the full quality, then it needs to be ripped to M2TS format but the size of the file will be huge.

Yeah, I want to make comparison between M2TS fully ripped & BD format. How much difference can you notice in terms of AQ & PQ?

if it's untouched M2TS, then it's actually the same file extracted from the BD format.. hence you getting the same thing..with same bitrates..

Might consider withdrawing the Synology 207+ and Aztech HomePlug from Garage Sale and use it solely for audio streaming within the home network.

But the chances of finding an untouched M2TS are very slim...

Even if you do, you'll need a truly massive HDD to have enough to make them count cry.gif

1st impression of the TViX M-6600N.... The video resolution is much better than PS3, audio quality is equally better. However, the UI is a bit sluggish which could be due to pre-matured firmware. Hope it ill be corrected via firmware update soon.

My room is much quieter than as the fan noise is extremely low in comparison with PS3. Overall satisfaction is above average for now. Only negative point is the cost of the unit...

Nope for now testing with DViX files. MKV files downloading in progress. Trying get some BD ISO to test out too.

I trust DViCO will overcome the sluggishness in no time...

1. it doesn't play BD-ISO.. how to compare with PS3+BD?
2. realtek doesn't bitstream output HD audio IIRC (if it does, good to hear)
3. as for sluggishness, that depends on realtek and their new SDK.. I guess.. smile.gif

PS3 can play MKV?

Cannot play BD ISO either.

Borrow a BD and test on both. Testing DivX will always favor the standalone BDP since the scaler in a standalone will always be better than the PS3, which has to do other things as well smile.gif

For those who is considering a DViCO TViX M-6600, I would recommend to save your money and go for model with Wireless N. The bandwidth throughput sucks even in a N environment. I have forgo the wireless setup and relying on the Aztech HomePlug connection instead. It is much more stable. Hope DViCO will have a bandwidth monitor built in to its firmware for users reference.

I am a guinea pig though.

Ya lor, but he probably doesn't even know what MCP stands for....takes so little to threaten his...errmmm..."masculinity". Real men are so not affected one iota!..hehe.

I am very happy with my 7000A , and until Dune comes a-poisoning, this will do for now. Although when that happens, I'll have another headache in terms of storage space...ooh best not think about it.

Have a good week y'all.

Wired connection for Full HD and wireless for MKV Wired & Wi-Fi network support

Through the network connection (wired/ wireless), you can appreciate all contents stored in your PC HDD without transferring to your TVIX HDD. M6600 can play high bit rated HD movie clips (up to 60mbps) without jittering in case of wired connection.
And when using the 802.11n Wi-Fi module, it plays most general HD movies (less than 18mbps)

TViX TVX M-6600A/N

老固件:tvix_6600_1.8.4_PreRelease.fwp

google translate: hehe!

With the new RTD1283 program listing of the major forums for Sigma Designs and the two chip manufacturers Realtek contrast more intense discussion, of course, there is also no lack of manufacturers representatives Huyou, misleading consumer choices consumers make mistakes. Well, today we have to broke the news about the two mainstream chips, "hidden rules."

RTD1073 and SMP8635 sound quality comparison
Sound quality, SMP8635 supports DTS-HD source output, sound quality is also ahead of other decoding RTD1073, a next-generation power amplifier cares about sound quality would no doubt choose SMP8635, or no less demanding on the next-generation audio amplifier can choose to RTD1073. However, Realtek chip, the emergence of newly published RTD1283 changed the status quo, it can well supported next-generation audio, but now on the market use RTD1283 chip players still less than normal.

RTD1073 and SMP8635-quality comparison
Quality aspects, RTD1073 Although the program's products have also played the banner of 1080p, but the actual number of low-end products only go to 720p. If you need to use super-high-definition projection watch, then 1080p will find RTD1073's a lot less than the SMP8635 of 1080p. So SMP8635 is more practical for high-quality requirements, and recommended the use of home theater program.

RTD1073 and SMP8635 Network Comparison
In the network support, although the RTD1073 and SMP8635 support network function, support BT download. However, the reasons are basically SMP8635 software and hardware products in the domestic BT download difficult to achieve. RTD1073 relatively simple to set up the software, the hardware also has good support, BT download can be a very good implementation. But the Realtek network advantages not only this, the new RTD1283 chip also supports the popular WiFi networks, including direct support for large-scale video website YouTube in support of the mainstream media, RSS capabilities. That a rich network applications will also become an important reason why users choose Realtek.
RTD1073 and SMP8635 File Format Comparison

For the file format support, RTD1073 have an absolute advantage, SMP8635 is no advantage at all, because RTD1073 supports RMVB, RM, if you have to look at RMVB, then definitely choose RTD1073 program. After all, some of the many resources online to download or use of RMVB format, high-definition player, the necessary functions less.
RTD1073 and SMP8635DTS decoding contrast

In the DTS decoder area, RTD1073 chip products basically support DTS software decoding. The SMP8635 also features soft solution although the DTS capabilities, but not with SMP8635 software products that support DTS decoding, we pay special attention to the time of purchase, different brands have different models, if the product was not bought SMP8635 software solution DTS capabilities, but also want to buy their own decoders, it uneconomical. RTD1073 and the use of technology RTD1283 Comparison

Although the division RTD1073 and RTD1283 out of the same door, but they are prepared for different purposes. RTD1073 targeted at players, but RTD1283 located in the hard disk-like video recorders, playback, if only from the point of view, no distinction between the two. From the view of the chip manufacturing process, RTD1283 using more advanced technology, RTD1283 is a BGA package, rather than RTD1073.
RTD1073 and RTD1283 thermal stability of the contrast

Realtek RTD1073 program the biggest bottleneck is the heat, high heat to bring the stability and reliability also will be reduced; Another problem is the firmware, for now, Taiwan's Realtek has not done right, as the United States, SIGMA Customers open source, such RTD1073 inside BUG, also need to Realtek themselves gradually solved.
Sigma Designs, and Realtek price comparison

It should look something like this.....

user posted image

The DVD IEC adapter (c7) enables you to use standard aftermarket power cords with your DSS, DVD, or CD player. There are TWO versions of this adapter. One is NON-polarized, and has a "figure 8" shape to it. The other is polarized, with one side of the figure "8" squared-off. All of these adapters have been Deep Cryogenically treated for maximum performance!

This is found at VH Audio and cost US$19.99 before shipping.

Anyone in need of this adapter can PM me as I do have extra piece order from VH audio.

It has been used for merely 24 hours and immediate impression is higher brightness observed. Although DViCO does not requires high power cable but I thing better power cable does improves overall visual performance.

The Snake not only makes a brighter display, a greater color dynamics is observed. As for streaming, wired connection is preferred over wireless... More stability.

Yes, it is indeed softer compares to DTS / DD. But, the AQ is so much better esp the LFE. Aint that 'noisy'.

Time to upgrade your setup, YB smile.gif

nope. overall AQ is refined (softer) and the LFE is cleaner with less 'noise' even at moderate volume. I do not know the exact term to be used. It is like certain 'rubbish' being taken out from the LFE (bass). At loud volume (givent the same dB as in DD/DTS), ear aint painful to listen to.

Price is per piece and performance is rather good as it is rated 200Mbps and no bottleneck throughput.

it's about convenience... why pay for something which you have to do extra work? if you already got it long time ago then fine, but if shopping for one now, crazy to get this WDTV over the WDTV Live...

I believe they have merged the BD-Lite and the Regular version into one. I just installed the 1.4.22 Regular and it plays the BD copies as well.

but of course my htpc can't bitstream.. tongue.gif

So, ar188, do u mean the video performance of 6500a using old sigma chip can out-perform 6600 realtek chip? The latter also face problem with Dolby True-HD??

SO conclusion.....

I dunno about the 6500.. but the dune seems to be good playing back BD-ISOs.. (using sigma) of course a 50inch kuro from our kawan here helps with the PQ of the BDs.. biggrin.gif

If you're talking about the 6500 firmware, then my advise is don't update. I've been getting nothing but problems.

First, the video gets too dark..and i have to do factory reset to get the "normal" brightness back.

Second.. certain mkv's get messed up after about 15mins of play.

Third..when I shutdown, the fan refuses to power down and I have to turn off the power at the mains.

Anyone know where I can find the older firmwares? This is getting annoying.

Thx for the link.. Just realized I was actually using this Firmware 99.3.126 and it was perfect. Now I wonder why I went ahead to upgrade it.

Its ok to go back to an earlier firmware release right? Oh and does it matter if we set our Dvico's to PAL or NTSC?

Thx!

it is ok to revert to the old ones... i alwiz do that... biggrin.gif

for PAL / NTSC... doesn't matter... i think most displays support both rite... if not just remember to turn on auto switch PAL/NTSC then...

Hey Zerorules, what is your luminance settings? I noticed that when I set mine to 0-255, then the movie becomes too dark.

Thx!

isnt that a computer thing 0-255 full range, for movies should be limited 16-235 range right?

Yes but if u were to calibrate your LCD/Plasma with the "blacker than black" kinda signal, the device must be set at 0-255.

Oh well, not important. I'm happy as long as my Dvico doesn't produce all these overly dark videos which was driving me crazy for the past 2 days.

HI

i currently own the M-4100sh model and my hand is kind of itching to change it to the newer 6500 or the 6600 but could anyone tell me the real difference between the 4100 and the 6500/6600?....i dont usually play RM files so the 6600 is not really that tempting to me ....thanks...

What if it is an upgrade from wdtv to 6500? Is the huge price difference justifiable?

Oh yes! biggrin.gif
I did just that a few months back. The fact that I didn't have to copy my downloaded media to the usb devices and then to the WDTV alone is worth the price. Now all I do is stream from my PC. So much more convenient. Also the WDTV couldn't light up Dolby TruHD and DTS-HD words on the AVR. tongue.gif

That's the main issue that tempted me to switch !!! Do u think the HD Audios play thru 6500 is a night & day improvement over the core audio??

What if it is compared to standalone BD player?

I don't have good speakers. All I can say is that HD Audio sounds pretty good but the difference is not day and night.

In term of AQ ur AVR wud do all the processing if u Bitstream... sud be the same,, biggrin.gif

LFE definitely more tighter.. IMO the surround and vocal are much clearer than the core audio..thumbup.gif

for PQ IIRC correctly Anfieldude did comment on DVico does not mess up the colors as the previous WDTV..

6600 firmware should be out within 2 weeks according to supplier.
PQ on 6600/6500 vs BDP will not be too much of a difference on lcd/plasma unless you are using FHD projector with FHD screen on a big screen.

AQ on media players vs BDP will be very obvious. I've compared the same movie on 6600/6500 vs Oppo83, the sound quality is totally different. bass is much tigher, details are better and more dynamic.

Of course, it depends on the Sound system you are running on. If using consumer brand HTiB, u might not notice much....but if u r using 10k above system, the difference will be a lot.

6600 vs 6500 ...6600 loads faster and GUI looks better than 6500. Feature wise, 6600 improved on the internet side and navigation and preview mode. according to dvico, all 6500 functionalities will be available in 6600 once the next firmware is released. so just sit tight and hopefully within 2 weeks time, 6600 users can enjoy the full functionalities.
