Will it (6600) eventually support bdmv/bluray iso? Cause if not, what are the benefits of getting a 6600 when it is even more "crippled' than 6500 albeit the newer hardware.

Also, will it "play" mkvs better, in terms of PQ compared to its predecessor?

actually I see u everyday here in these forums. biggrin.gif
I just wished there's a player that plays BDMVs with full menu support. Hopefully this new 6600 will have that capability when the firmware matures.

I didn't managed to get the ISO to work either but I'm keeping it. Hopefully one day, "something" will play it. Too bad the Eagles didn't release it on BD.. Sigh

I believe they have merged the BD-Lite and the Regular version into one. I just installed the 1.4.22 Regular and it plays the BD copies as well.

If you're talking about the 6500 firmware, then my advise is don't update. I've been getting nothing but problems.

First, the video gets too dark..and i have to do factory reset to get the "normal" brightness back.

Second.. certain mkv's get messed up after about 15mins of play.

Third..when I shutdown, the fan refuses to power down and I have to turn off the power at the mains.

Anyone know where I can find the older firmwares? This is getting annoying.

Thx for the link.. Just realized I was actually using this Firmware 99.3.126 and it was perfect. Now I wonder why I went ahead to upgrade it.

Its ok to go back to an earlier firmware release right? Oh and does it matter if we set our Dvico's to PAL or NTSC?

Thx!

Hey Zerorules, what is your luminance settings? I noticed that when I set mine to 0-255, then the movie becomes too dark.

Thx!

Yes but if u were to calibrate your LCD/Plasma with the "blacker than black" kinda signal, the device must be set at 0-255.

Oh well, not important. I'm happy as long as my Dvico doesn't produce all these overly dark videos which was driving me crazy for the past 2 days.

^ If 4100 plays your mkvs or any other medias for that matter, there's no reason to upgrade....and why do u need any software updates?

Oh yes! biggrin.gif
I did just that a few months back. The fact that I didn't have to copy my downloaded media to the usb devices and then to the WDTV alone is worth the price. Now all I do is stream from my PC. So much more convenient. Also the WDTV couldn't light up Dolby TruHD and DTS-HD words on the AVR. tongue.gif

What if it is an upgrade from wdtv to 6500? Is the huge price difference justifiable?

I don't have good speakers. All I can say is that HD Audio sounds pretty good but the difference is not day and night.

^ A few of my friends are still shopping for a media player..so besides the 6500a which we all know can bitstream HD codecs, are there any players can do that NOW? Yes, we all know Xtreamer, AC Ryan, 6600 are "supposed" to support HD codes in future, but the wait can be pretty stressful if u want the magic words to lit up on the receiver ;-)

rx330, yeah but I never followed up on the thread. Did I get screwed? LOL!!
I've been downloading a whole lot less these days. There's no point since I hardly watch more than 10% of what I download. Everything else gets burned to DVDs(as mkvs)

Yep and it gets pretty tedious esp most of the files these days are bigger even than a DL-DVD.
So besides the 6500a, what media player can bitstream HD-Audio?
