It's funny to see most of the users here have no overheating problem or at least got the problem solved after installing the new firmware. I think it comes down to how much flash power is being used and maybe because there's a temp. limiter function in the SB900, so it makes it like it keeps overheating. I've tried using Canon 580 EX II speedlite, quite happy with the performance. So does the SB900 heats up as fast as the Canon? Im just worried after i get the SB900, end up potong steam only. On another note, just wanna ask, if i use my built in flash as commander, will the working range from my position to the remote flash be less compared to if i use a SB900/600 as commander because it's brighter. Since if i understand correctly, CLS works by sending flash light correct? Thanks

Since if i understand correctly, CLS works by sending flash light correct? Thanks The firmware is just a software level fix in logical calculation of what temperature is deterrmined as "overheat". Its like ... owh i used to only have to score 70 marks tops to get an 'A' now i have to get at least 95 marks to get an 'A'. They just fix the "if X = Y then Y should freak out and yell overheat!!" part of the flash OS. Well maybe theres circuitry level fix that Nikon somehow manages to patch through firmware update. But thats like adding another conductive rod to the circuit board via a firmware update . Owh how sophisticated Yes. Logically whichever closer to the remote unit is less prone to failure. And the working distance is ever relative by the commanding flash power as well, plus factor of obstructions within that range. By the way, SB600 cannot do Commander. Only SB900/800 can.

Brothers, wanna ask... my SB600 mount a bit loosen when plug on top of my D90... i notice it is due to the steel mount located at the body there slightly wider... maybe i always hold on the flash rather than body when some 1 pass me the camera... Any idea how can i fix this? I am thinking maybe to push or press the top mount steel closer... or maybe hammer it a bit... but scare... any idea how to fix it?
