Why compare? The two are both cameras that can be used to get great pics. Just select the one that you feel most comfortable with and then go out there and take pics.

Although a great cam can make your life a bit easier, it's more the person behind the cam when it comes to getting great pics. The camera is just a tool. You don't ask a great painter what kind of brush he uses when you see one of his works, do you?

MemorableStudios: Are you sure you're doing it right? I don't have to post-process much or anything on the A900. At most it's clone stamping/healing brush (if the makeup artist didn't do a good job). Use Intelligent Preview to make sure you get exposure/WB/DRO right. Make sure you scan the borders of the 100% viewfinder to make sure there are no unwanted elements in the picture. Finally, if you shoot RAW, learn how to use the workflow to make your life easier.

If you want a soft effect without PP, get a soft filter. biggrin.gif

well.. if you take thousands of pictures.. at full 24MP X-Fine, definitely it will be taxing, longer loads... etc

fortunately, the SAL2470Z + A900 gives damn accurate colors... smile.gif

Albnok : my main problem is with underexposure though, when too many subjects wearing white/light colored clothes.... any idea how to reduce this problem? i have tried the AEL, but the shutter speed slows down... (shooting in aperture priority mode)

MemorableStudios: I do take thousands of pictures with the A900. biggrin.gif

My question is, what do you need to PP a lot? If you want to HDR every image, or give it some funky color effect, then that is the time cost. I like my pictures with no extra post-processing for example here - the color was nice already there was nothing to add to it. Some people like to change to sepia, black-and-white, overdo HDR, add vignetting etc. but I find such effects quite cheesy sometimes. Also we get natural optical vignetting for free with full-frame!

From what I can see from your Flickr, you only need to increase ISO and/or choose a slower shutter speed to get more ambient light for a brighter exposure. Everything else nice already.

As for white subjects I just set my rear dial to change EV in Aperture Priority. You have to either know to overexpose a white subject slightly, or use Spot Meter AEL Toggle on the subject's face.

albert,

i think we have similar approach in post-processing. i always tend to produce the most realistic look, or as natural as possible. somehow i admire those who put effects la, playing with colour tones la... but whenever i try to do those things, it came out looking lame. so i just stick to my normal looking photo... lol.

sony tend to underexpose a bit when there's a white object in the frame. probably its the bionz processing trying to preserve as much highlight as possible. i believe the JPEG engine needs some rework as it could actually benefit from the wide dynamic range. slightly blown highlight (in JPEG) can be pulled down or recovered in RAW.

But I do believe it may different in term or performance btw each model? For eg. like a person who drive proton saga and mercedes, even if he dont know all those special function which embedded in mercedes car, he still can drive mercedes car faster than driving a proton saga. Doesn't it?

Both the models you mentioned are entry level models. So what is there to compare? It's like comparing Toyota Vios with Honda City. Which is better? Hard to say. Depends on the driver also lor....

It's not like you're comparing A330 with 5D mkII or 1D mkIII. Then it's like comparing Proton Saga to Mercedes ler...

u cannot compare and gave example like this....
many pro users can even use an entry level camera to win many many awards.....
photography is very depend on personal perspective....some ppl can shoot many great pictures since the first time he hold a DSLR...
so dont think better machine produce greater image quality....buy yourself an entry level and train with ur basic skills....
then oni u talk about the machine's weak point or upgrade to better body...
like famous saying:"its not the greatness of the camera but the brain behind the viewfinder.."

Neither! I'm still happy with my A100 despite what people say about it. And yes, it's kinda old compared to the recent models but hey it still packs a punch! smile.gif

If I were to buy a new cam it would be the upcoming A850 FF ler! rclxm9.gif But no budget at the moment. cry.gif

I dont PP alot... mostly the underexposed pictures... smile.gif
My point is at 24MP, pictures takes longer time to load, more space.. etc...

Back to white subjects, my shutter speed slows down to 1/5 - 1/15 when I attemp for Spot Meter AEL toggle on Subject face,,, so motion blur occurs.. Probably I would try to practise EV adjustment,,, I have used Canon EOS30D/50D, dont have much of this problem though,.. very apparent on my ex-A350 and a900 though...

else, in minimal white elements, the picture is fantastic.. dont need PP...

thanks for the Raw processing workflow, usually I do set 1 profile in LR and use for all images,,, but good tips on the preview size,,,

Anyone here uses DXO Optics Pro ??

If u bought at Sony Center, then u have send it back to the original SONY Center, or ANY SONY SERVICE CENTER / SONY STYLE. Other SONY CENTER might changed you handling fees.
Lasttime i my lens also have this problem. I send it together with my camera (Must bring both together as the lens warranty is covered by the camera body) They help me to repair. I found out the lens is more smooth when I zoom in / zoom out.
