i wanna adopt hamster.. which type should i go 1st ??

i scare they will bite my hand.. smile.gif

Syrian would be good for beginner. If bite is your fear, I recommend getting from breeder, chances are less.

Wat breed is ur hamster?Try potty train it
Another thing is remove the wheel when it is not running so it wont straight find the wheel to pee.Often clean the wheel if it still pee on it to eliminate the smell so it wont familiar the wheel as a place to pee

myrtle, lol! yeah. i overlooked it. i'm sorry. change the position of the wheel that might help. or you can take beddings that are soaked with pee and put it at the corner of the cage. and he'll knw that he's supposed to pee there.

@mrytl3: Haha. Sorry sorry. Seems like everyone was getting too fired up on Lawrence's case. Hehe.

Agree with Sharkie, you can soak some of the bedding and leave it at a corner. Or just take out the wheel and see how, occasionally insert the wheel. Or if you have other wheel, you can try putting it in, see if your hammie also pee at the other wheel

hi all,

was wondering if anyone can gimme an answer?
i brought my ww hammie (Mr Indy) to the vet and was told dat he might have got mite infection so she sprayed him with some medication stuff.
when he got home, it seems like he can't hear me when i call to him and din drink much water.
is it normal?
and after a few days it seems dat he can hear me.
but like a bit blur blur.

and now i got him a new cage but he seems like a bit blur... dunno how to climb up the tube and stuff...and dunno how to find the food area..
is it due to old age?
the cage is Habitrail Ovo for Drawf Hamster...
i'm worried about him...

in my opinion syrians are the better choice for beginners as they're less agile/active compared to dwarfs. they're tho lazier ones too. hehe!
have you done a research on what type of cage, wheel, food and etc? if you haven't i suggest you to do so. good luck choosing!

@bcmc: If you getting a Syrian, I suggest a 2ft tank if possible, as they are quite large in terms of size. Wheel must be 8' above. Then the rest is pretty much the same with other hammies. Refer to the first page for more info. Just look for Syrians.

ovo is wayyyy to small. the wheel is very small also. i suggest you get a Wodent Wheel which costs RM78.80 or Comfort Wheel which costs RM35.
minimum cage size for a syrian is 2ft. the bigger is always better.

maybe he's not used to his new environment. he needs some time. btw, since you're using ovo you need to change the water bottle because the ovo bottle is very bad for them as they have to lay on their back to drink. how old is he?

to be honest, i do not know how old my hamster is coz he came into my house.
so i took him in and took care of him. but i've had him for almost 1 yr plus.
do u think it's becoz of old age therefore he chose to ignore me?

and now i've put him back in his old cage , he seemed happy but sleep most of the time or bite the cage.
when i put my hand near him he's like wanna bite....so now i'm so scared to touch him....

it could be that he's bored. spend more time with him. add more tubes and toys in his cage. bury those tubes under the bedding so that he'll dig them out. in this way he'll be busy. take him out often and give him chance to run around SUPERVISED!. from the pic i can't ecaxtly say how old is he. perhaps any seniors here could help. Habitrail safari is a good cage for one hamster. but adding more toys can make the cage congested. so plan wisely too.

QUOTE(mrytl3 @ Oct 3 2009, 12:05 PM)
Last week, i bought a new wheel for my hamster. Ever since then, he kept on peeing in that new wheel. Until his pee bertakung d in that wheel then he'll continue exercising in that. Which sometimes make his body becomes wet due to the pee. So i have to wipe him and the wheel also everytime. Then put him in bathing sand. But still, his fur becomes yellowish due to the pee.

Is there any ways to make him stop peeing in that wheel? Because he still poo in the litter box but not pee. How yea.
*
This is normal...
Sometimes, hammies u buy from petshop is not toliet train..
So u as a new owner, have to train he/she..1stly, avoid keep wiping ur hammies.. as it may cause any
problem that we dunno... Just provide em sand bath, (no need u to bathing em, they know how to do it)
Then , try soak the wheel using hot water ( not 100% hot) + a bit sabun..
After the smell dissapeared, u have to hang it under hot sunny day..
Then oni u put in back to the cage.. If the same thing happen again, try to take some of pee's bedding (u can try to put it
once she pee on the wheel).. then put it into the toilet/ sand bath..
Try to do it 1st, then let me know the result..lalalala Gud Luck!
