i adopted it. guess it needs time to fit with a new owner?

btw, any ways to let my hamsters get together? my existing hamster seems to bully the new hamster everytime they meet.

oh still new...then give it sometime to get used to the new environment. usually its best to mix them when young if u mix during adult & they didnt fight then ok if they just play play...but keep an eye on them la.

u could try this method: put them somewhere first. then u clean the cage, make sure its clean properly with soap all till there is no old hamster scent. then u rearrange the items in the cage & put both hamster inside the cage. both of them will think its a new environment & will get used to the new environment so less likely there will be old hamster fighting for his territory. try introduce both hamster to each other.

Okay, I have a winter white who sleeps all day long. I seldom see him play and it even sleeps in the ham ham ball I gave. Is this normal??? Or is it just plain lazy??

different hamsters have different sleeping time. most hamsters are nocturnal. you can keep disturb it at the day , so it will sleep during he night and be more active during the day. thats what i did to minee

Thanks for the advice!! did this, not working. even when they're near to each other, my existing hamster (I called him Sampat), will attempt to scratch Didi (My new hamster). And Sampat will bite Didi when i put them together.

but disturbing their natural habit is not good. it will add up stress for them thus reduce their lifespan. but maybe if u do that since they were born might be a different case then since they are used to being awake in the morning & sleep at night since they were born.

oh if thats the case then better to separate them...u can try to play with both of them together...maybe after few weeks or 1month they might get along then try mixing them in the new cage. but u need watch out tho...fighting might occur anytime....if i were u i would just keep them in separate cages. its better than being sorry later.

depends on the hamster...maybe he likes a dark place & dont like the bedding smell? what paper btw? tissue paper? A4 paper?

usually bigger hamster will dominate the others, or male hamster will dominate the others...if sampat is male/bigger than didi, most likely he/she will attact the other hamster...or if didi has some behavior that irritates sampat, sampat may attack didi too...it still ok if they only play fight or just disturbing the other hamster, but make sure u separate them and put them away from each other...but once they are really fight or being bully(results to blood or scars) its nearly impossible they can be friends again...but there is still hope, u can separate them in 1 cage each...put them far from each other, make sure the blood/scar completely heals...make sure they forgot each other smells...then they might be able to be friends again...

regarding to your hamster sleep time...actually u can set what time u want your hamster to wake up...they are usually nocturnal and usually awake around 12am...they awake about 8-10 hours or more...its not recomended to disturb hamsters while they are sleeping...u can wake them up by calling their names...if u wake them up at constant time every day, u can set their sleeping time...

for my adult hamsters, they will awake around 4-5am and sleep at 12-1pm...for babies im not so sure cause i just adopt babies, this is my first exp with hamster babies...my hamster babies are very active(i think all hamster babies are active)..they spent most their time awake(about 14hours awake 8hours sleep)...

waa ohmy.gif u cannot simply add another male adult WW to the family as a subtitute...they will not fit together...they will surely fight...its ok, they can survive without their husband and father...a few months later, the kids will grow to adults...

i just use the alex sand bath yesterday...just now i saw my hamster grooming himself...its a bit strange from the way he alway groom...then i pick him up and check...i saw his right eye is wet..his right side face also wet maybe because of his tears and saliva...i saw there are sands on his face...so i suspect that there are some sands got into his eye...the alex sand bath is too fine...i clean his aquarium, and remove the sand...after i clean his face and body, he recovers as normal...

thanks for the info...

@hublee: you clean the cage spanking new d.. put your new hamster in first and let him mark his territory then see can or not

also winter whites do well alone although they can be kept in pairs
they tend to fight eventhou they are not solitary
so don't worry if the male goes missing then you scared they lonely or wtv..

no i dont think after a sand bath they will stop fighting

please do not try to wake your hamster during the day and play with it till it sleeps at night instead
its the same as doing this: exhaust your hamster until it is fatigue and lethargic until no choice have to sleep at night
just imagine if someone woke you in the middle of the night and ask you do work.. making you sleep during the day will you like that?
in humans, research found that shift work causes loads of accidents and in rats, sleep deprivation has been found to kill or shorten their life span

if you really really really want it to wake up abit earlier.. do it hour by hour then
if they wake at 12am, then you wake them up an hour before than, 11pm for a week
then if they used to it d, the next week, wake them up at 10 pm
and so on and so forth
but i dont recommend this unless their waking hours are less than a certain amount of hours
i forgot how many hours does hamsters typically sleep and wake

markjohn: baby syriannn.. congrats!
