Hi all,
Has anyone heard of Auditory Brainstem Implant (ABI)? Is the procedure available in Malaysia? Information I got from the web were all foreign cases. I am suffering from a total hearing loss due to nerve damage and want to consider this procedure to gain back hearing. Can anyone share some guidance where I can proceed? |

QUOTE(aaronportnoy @ Jul 27 2015, 04:01 PM) Dr Koay Cheng Eng was my ENT doctor in Sunway Med. Just an update on what happened to help those who need it. my ent doc is dr koay cheng eng too.. i am still recovering from the surgery he did on me last week.I was admitted in January for two procedures Septoplasty (for Deviated Septum) and Turbine reduction. After the surgery, i woke up to a sort of flat nose, freaked out and complained to Dr Koay about it. He took a look and told me that the Septoplasty might have be overly done caz my septum was very NOT straight. So of coz i asked him if i could fix it immediately since it looks bad, and after a day he agreed to do another surgery to push it up- Rhinoplasty if not mistaken. After a week i was out of the hospital, and started recovering at home. The first month i would say, i still had some congestion, caz of the stitches (auto dissolve) mucus gets stuck on my nose and dries up so it blocks the air flow. Had to keep blowing and i think i may have blown too hard at times. After i couldnt take it anymore i told him to remove the stitches, which he did, and it was ok after that. Since then, i had have good air flow with no congestion or sinus attacks for roughly 3-4 months. However recently, my nose has started to become blocked again. I suspect that the turbinate (whatever u call it) may have regrown causing it to block the air flow. I have to either take anti histamines or use the strong nose drops. Normal sprays like Nasonex wont work. Anyways im thinking of seeing another ENT for second opinion now. Any suggestions? Someone in SJMC would be good, nearer to home. Thanks. what i had was deviated septum/chronic rhinitis and allergic rhinitis.. i have been using a lot of nasal decongestant spray since the last 2 years and finally decide enough is enough and i really need to do the surgery.. airflow is good right now(previously my left nostril was blocked 95%) and i cant feel the stitches. the surgery fixed only 1 part of my problem. the other part of my problem is allergic rhinitis, any external elements like dust, pollen, oil vapour and smoke could trigger my inner nose to swollen up.. right now i am on prednisolone, a steroid based anti histamine to stop my nose from getting swollen but i'm pretty sure it will return once the prednisolone stops.. i believe what you are experiencing is the same as me, you might have allergic rhinitis too.. using anti histamines are really only short term solutions as they inhibit the inner nose from getting swollen, not resolve the issue why it gets swollen in the first place.. i have been reading some local papers promoting a vegetable based supplement that could help sufferers of allergic rhinitis, the supplement is called nuvalectranal.. i will be trying out this supplement soon after my next check up with dr koay.. i would suggest you check with your ent doctor too whether nuvalectranal or some other allergic rhinitis medication is needed for your blocked nose.. the key thing is to ensure the medication fixes the root cause of the swelling, not just blocking the symptoms/swelling.. attached are the paper article i read last week regarding allergic rhinitis.. But what could we do to stop this totally. best is to see an ent specialist and diagnose your issue properly.. if you do not need surgery than you could go straight to medication to remedy your problem.. as for me i needed to do the surgery first before addressing other issues through medication.. |

Hey guys, I have had this buzzing sound and decreased hearing on the right ear. I went to clinic just now, seems like there is some inflammation in the ear but the doctor asked me to go for an ENT scan.
I am from Penang, currently staying in PJ. Not really familiar with the hospitals in klang valley, any recommendations? It seems like the pricing for the scan is around RM200-RM300, it would be great if anyone can recommend a more budgeted one. |

Been suffering slight hearing loss since yesterday. Felt there's a vacuum in my right ear. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with my right ear? Could it be ear wax blockage or etc?
Am planning to go a doctor for a checkup around kl area. Any recommendations? Dr khor or hukm or others? Hopefully it won't be expensive as I'm still a student. Thanks in advance for the help! |

Hello. I would like to ask bout your opinions, guys. I have a cyst in my nose and I get some suggestions to have an operation for my cyst. I plan to have my operation in Penang. I have searched through Internet bout which doctor I should visit , somehow my options go to these two doctors, which are Dr. Lim Seh Guan from Loh Guan Lye hospital and Dr. Ng Hee Hua from Lam Wah Ee hospital. I would like to ask which doctor is better and do you have any impressions about these two doctors.

QUOTE(PrincipaliteY @ Jan 16 2014, 05:30 PM) I had the exact same symptom as above but I recovered after I've been to Dr Khor whereas the GP failed me. Was sick for a week until I visited Dr Khor. Did you go and meet Dr. Koh Tat Ngee and if you did is he any good? A little bit of Dr Khor from my viewpoint: He is good. I went to him because I was suffering from fever and very painful sore throat for a prolonged time - about a week. Seen a GP but wasn't recovering. Somewhat from hearing me speak only, he is able to diagnosed my problem is with my nose then only he prompt me to the endoscope and CT scan. That brief moment I was trying to tell him my symptoms but I don't think he's taking in what I'm saying also. The way he talk does give a streak of impatience or lansi but not impolite. I don't know how to describe it. Maybe it is just the way he communicates, direct and straight but not with proper connecting sequence. Imagine hearing that you need an operation to cure your sickness after diagnosis without first knowing what is wrong, why it happens and why requires operation.. these kind of sequence is missing. I planned to visit Dr. Koh Tat Ngee from Gleneagles soon. It is not that I don't trust Dr. Khor but it is what people always said to look for 2nd opinions. After all, Dr. Khor wanna cut me up which is no small matter of taking medicine only. Anyone can share something about Dr. Koh Tat Ngee? I am diagnosed with a polyp in my nose by Dr Raymond Tan Suan Kuo and he recommended to do a radiofrequency treatment to reduce the size of the polyp and perform a septoplasty and right FESS. Anybody have an experience with Dr Raymond Tan before? |
