Aha..cs3/cs4, serious programs you got there smile.gif
I just run YM, aMSN, Skype, Safari, iTunes, uTorrent, Mail and QQ on normal day.
Not normal day all the above plus Wireshark and or VLC plus few terminals.
So far been doing wonders on 4GB RAM. My programs don't hog much memory smile.gif

One quick question, do i need to download the service packs 1/2 , or i just need to update to the latest update which is the 12.2.3 Office For Mac Home and Student edition?

not sure about that. last time i had 12.2. after reformat, i installed from my dmg which was version 12.0... i tried to update but it only lets me download 12.1. aftr download 12.1, check update again, baru got 12.2. no idea why

but then later i found out something went wrong with the 12.1, so i reinstalled and juz stay with 12.0 w/o problems ;p

I realised CS3 is more stable though. CS4, buggier, and wait till they fix the bugs rclxms.gif

I updated my MS Office 2008 Home and Student edition. I could only upgrade to 12.2.3 but couldn't upgrade the SP1 and SP2 updates. Any insights?

Yeah! Gonna get the genuine copy from my uncle this weekend smile.gif Will see how it goes. CS3 is sufficient enough for me already. rclxm9.gif

Added on March 9, 2010, 12:37 amArgh, the yahoo messenger display picture bug is killing me! Everytime i login, my display picture disappears, and become blank. Every single time. But on the login screen, it shows the picture. Disappears after login, any ideas how to fix it? I'm on Beta 3 (192773). Sigh.

hi guys, im not sure i am at the right place to ask, but here goes.

im planning to either get a macbook white @ 35XX education rate plus 4gb ram top up

or the 15in MBP non unibody 2008 2.4Ghz/2gb ram/ 200hdd/ 8600gt for around 3.6k, issit worth it?

which one would better if i wanna get a Macbook that can handle intensive Photoshop and lightroom and sometime adobe bridge?

how bad was the problem that the 8600m faced?

IMHO u might not need any 8600gt since u are doing 2D imaging (photoshop/lightroom) ..

im using 'm' type (wuhuu) graphic also for my heavy raw processing photos.
'gt' version only for 3d rendering (again this is my opinion by viewing other international forum)

for better performance in photo/image u may consider processor/ram/ and perhaps a SSD.

i agree with zemmien. for photoshop n lightroom, GPU doesnt play a huge role as much as CPU. n RAM helps smile.gif

i'd get the MBP for the bigger screen. obv only if it's in good condition lah

so basically i do not need a good GPU unless im doing 3d and playing games?
so it 2008 15 inch 2.4/2gb/200gb/8600gt worth 3.6 at 2nd hand?
and also what should i look out for when purchasing a 2nd hand notebook?

3.6k for 2nd hand seems reasonable

obviously it's best if u can have a look at the product before buying. juz make sure the body no scratches n dents (if there is, maybe can try asking for lower price, but up to u). since it's the 2008 model, i think it comes with LED backlit screen so i think the screen wont be bad, but juz check for scratches too. make sure all buttons n ports are working.

also check the battery, how long can it last. for that model, if bought in 2008, i think the battery should be able to power the mac for around 3 hours (juz my guess) with wifi n BT off, lowest screen brightness
