tried aMSN and it doesnt seem to work..hmm..

Possibly blocked? I have MSN,aMSN and Adium (long story on how I ended up with this 3) and all are working fine without any tweak. I supposed the only possible reason is blocked. Doubt they are changing some protocol etc since I just got connected to it anyway. Plus normally I think if changes in protocol only those like aMSN and Adium might be affected

Added on February 1, 2010, 4:31 amQuick question. The expected MBP refresh coming soon will affect MBP 13" as well? Reason since I wanted to get a MB 13" as a gift but seeing the price difference not that much plus lighter etc compared to MBP 13" I might go with that one. If this refresh going to affect MBP 13" might as well I just wait for couple more months.

This is what I love about Apple...everything started with "rumor has it that....." To get almost full satisfaction is to buy on the dot when they launch it.
I wonder if I wait for 1month should I continue to wait further or not..it can be an almost endless wait..haha.
Yea as the new MB is almost on same spec with lower end MBP 13" just missing few stuff that might be noticeable to casual user

considering to get a Macbook now..

any suggestion which is the most value for money..

Base on my observation MBP baseline is the most value for money since i dun really use for design ..

Depends on what you plan to use with it and budget assigned to it.
Choices breakdown can be:
1) MBW and upgrade the memory and hard disk.
2) MBP 13" 2.26 and upgrade the memory and hard disk.
3) MBP 13" 2.53 and upgrade the hard disk

Personally not much of difference in term of choice 1 and 2 but more towards choice 1 and 3

I went for the choice 3 since I got nearly half price off for it.

BUT...you might want to wait for a while say 1-2 months since they are planning for refresh and not sure if MBP 13" are affected or not.

Thank you .. i dun prefer white .. white get scratch easily sad.gif
option number 3 is kinda pricey huh .. biggrin.gif
*
I don't prefer white since it can get yellowish/dirty, heavy since I travel alot with 2 laptop, scratch etc....
I would go for option 2 if not for the price that I got. Now I'm waiting for the new refresh since I need to buy another one for someone. Being an unofficial helpdesk to solve Windows problem across the globe can cost a few mbp

I'm not an Apple fanboy because if I do I would be a mac user since ages ago. Mac was engineered from ground up and not something where you just mix and match to get the almost same thing. You might get almost close but you need to remember that the piece of thing that you have right now is of engineering wonders.
For example let me take you on different path. No offence to others though but a Wira/Waja with an Evo engine is still a Wira/Waja compared to Mitsubishi Evo. The car was engineered from ground up meaning everything is thought for and not just about horsepower. Yes some might boast about having 600bhp which is the same for modified Evo as well but can it sustain laps over laps in track? Maybe the engine won't break down on you but other parts were not designed to work with that kind of bhp. Bear in mind that all engineering goodies comes with a nice price tags with different type of headaches.
For example not all country have Apple store or even Apple Authorised resellers etc. I was in Tunis recently for about 1 half month and on my last week there I got to know that there is one Apple first Authorised Reseller shop opening on that same week. Imagine if anything happen to my Mac then, it would be headache to get things done fast. Not only that, even if you want something for your Mac then it might be of a problem as well as I went to the shop, had a nice long chat with them and got to see what they have in store.

So in short Mac is engineered from ground up. The hardware was designed with the exact OS in mind. You can always read what are the engineering wonders that they have in the Mac from Apple website and do abit of thinking there for a while. Enjoy and utilize all or most of the wonders they have smile.gif

Im not able to retrieve my mail when I use a cable connection on my MBW via Mail. I also can't log on MSN if I'm using cable connection. Perhaps its some restriction..hmm

If you have a PPTP or OpenVPN account you might try that one out although some do block PPTP as well.
Another solution, if this mail is your own mail, own domain hosting kinda thing, try to use other method like SSL (different port) etc instead of normal SMTP.

since there is so many good point of Mac .. why dont consider have a change?

My own personal laptop I bought it in 1996 (NEC) after that sometime in 2001 I bought a normal PC. Then a few Sun servers arrived into my life and nothing else. Then last year I bought a Mac smile.gif I changed smile.gif

I don't look for spec. If I need to, well I have my Sun which certainly can do intensive computing power that I need. The only Windows that I have now is on office laptop

I do tend to see alot of people aligned that way. They tend to compare CPU power etc. That's life anyway. If it doesn't go that way then Apple will be the only computer maker in the world. lol

1) I don't think you can take out the battery as all newly designed mac is built-in battery but I might be wrong. Maybe a simple test is to check underneath it if there's a latch or something like that but I think it sure won't be pc laptop like when you can just simply plug and unplug.
There's a good guide actually from a website on taking good care of the battery and if I'm not mistaken it's posted as well in LYN. Do search it up. It will include the basic care, how and when to recalibrate, good tools to monitor battery, temp etc...
2) Bring to apple service center
3) No warranty card but you can check the expiry date etc on apple website. Get the serial number from system profiler. (though they might ask for receipt or some proof of purchase I think based on what's written on the website)

I think I'm only organized if I'm on some unix filesystem. Looking at my windows I got personal file everywhere, end up cleaning it would be almost impossible and too tiring.

News is that Apple is one of the most secretive in the company in the world (or maybe the most) so alot of rumors will fly around and best is to just wait.

Congrats on the wisest purchase of computer in your life biggrin.gif
