not compulsory but it can be comfortable for typing and yet it also can cool down your lappy, what kind of cooler i think you should search for cooler that blow air through intake holes from your bottom laptop and sucks air not from the rear because thats where is our exhaust is located

haha...this laptop runs hot!...but the insulation is very good. Maybe because it is plastic since i can only do reference to magnesium chassis. Official i have hit 85C with vista upgrade and adobe reader being installed and surfing the internet and downloading files. but if you let it sit quietly , temp can drop to 55C.

For Fn key function, is it possible to make it work to other software?
example:- i want to make media player function[play/pause/stop/next/previous] working on winamp or other player software. currently the function key only works for windows media player.

Just bought a ASUS K50AB from The Hub, 3rd Floor, Lowyat Plaza today. biggrin.gif

RM 1940, that is with the whole box + 1 gb ram addition.

In All IT, there is only one display unit left, price RM 1870

To open the back cover, only 5 screws need to be unscrewed. 4 at the front + one at the battery area

That is so much more better that trying to force my v3828AU cover from opening...

yes...thks for the info. Its 4 at the back actually. Manage to upgrade the memory just then.

Had a look at the cpu fan, i have to say, Asus fail in this department. The fan suction point has no opening whatsoever only the bulge and vent openings around to get fresh air. Hot air immiting from the cpu and the copper pipe is being recirculated and picked up by the fan suction point since they are almost next to each other doh.gif (suction point and cpu/copper pipe). No wonder the damn cpu runs so hot.

Just to add, while the design is to slowly draws fresh air from the vents located far away from the cpu fan suction point to cool other components, i have to say thermal management design by Asus in this case is poor. better planning could have been done.

Hi guys,

I've just encountered a problem with mine.
It seems my FN(function key) is activated always. I mean its like the FN is now on caps lock. Whenever i need to type, i have to press the FN key for normal keys.

Anyone got this issue or knows how to solve it? sweat.gif

Facing some problems now...

1. WinXP keep BSODing, maybe have to switch to Vista...

2. The DVD drive makes EXTREMELY loud noises when installing WinXP from CD...

3. Part of the numpad feels hot

Anyone facing the same issue with the DVD drive? (ASUS K50AB)

try and go into bios and change your gfx to be dedicated instead of integrated. This is one problem when using xp and getting BSOD.

Thats normal.

thats normal because the cpu sits somewhere there.

Yes, I have changed from Powerxpress to dGPU in BIOS, still BSOD.

Is the sound really normal? Cause it sounds like something can really fly out from the drive bay...
I really think that if I place the laptop in a room and have the door locked, I can still hear the sound...

Thanks anyway javascript:emoticon(':D')
