To yopp, i experienced 1st problem before. Using vista btw. It happened after i changed bios to dGPU instead of dual gpu(3200 and 4570). Try change back setting to dual gpu, or try reinstall display driver or both

i wonder that this laptop can login by face scan?

huhuu..

ya. the utility program called smart logon. u can login by face scan (via webcam). but its quite gey. most of the time it doesnt detect your face so you need to type in password as usual

for xp, for bios setting need to change
1) IDE AHCI to NATIVE IDE
2) POWEREXPRESS MODE to dGPU (recommended using hd470 only)

For Fn key function, is it possible to make it work to other software?
example:- i want to make media player function[play/pause/stop/next/previous] working on winamp or other player software. currently the function key only works for windows media player.

anyone running vista using asus power gear preconfigured power management. Change the lid to "do nothing when it closes". and when you close it, walk away and in about 5 - 10 mins, when you open back the lid, there is not display? Putting the computer to sleep and waking it doesnt even bring it back. have to shut it down and reboot.

Maybe i'll uninstall this power 4 gear thingy.

this question been asked alot. if im not mistaken, if u installed driver when using powerxpress[bios>vga setting] , then u changed to nGPU after driver instal, u will get this problem. its not related to power 4 gear.
to solve> reinstall driver i guess.

on xp: cant use powerxpress to save power
pro: boot faster, less annoying eg: installing software/games, sharing files etc.
and one more, sharper movie image? i think the movie look sharper in xp windows coz i used vista before and it does not look sharp ....

you can refer back my earlier post in this thread. i'm actually exploiting a bug in the system. really love to run at 36 deg celcius. furthermore, the fan at full speed is not that loud compared to some laptops on full fan speed. biggrin.gif

how to exploit?

Ok. Here's how I do it for those who didn't really get what I said earlier. FYI, I'm using K50AB purchased from All-IT.

Step 1: Update Windows Vista completely (I'm using Vista Ultimate 32 bit).

Step 2:
Install AMD/ATi drivers from official website (not Asus website). Other drivers, use the included driver CD to install all.

Step 3: Switch from HD4570 to HD3200 via ATi driver inside Windows.

Step 4: Go to Sleep mode via Start Menu.

Step 5: Wake up from Sleep by pressing any key or mouse click.

Step 6: The fan will now be spinning at full speed! biggrin.gif
(Note: You can change to HD4570 back now for gaming, and the fan will still be running at full speed. However, if you plugged/unplugged your power supply, you need to restart Step 3 and onwards)

Key benefits:
- Temperature at idle is as low 36 degrees Celsius. You will realize even the hard disk and top-right-hand side corner is no longer warm!
- Temperature at gaming is still very low, since the Asus K50AB is designed to cool all parts of the laptop (comprehensive-exhaust system).
- The air that the fan is blowing out will not be as hot as before as the fan speed can push much more air out, thus preventing heat build-up.
- Longer life for your laptop components and battery.

using windows vista ultimate sp 2 now. way better than xp. only the contrast is boot time so long. no problem so far compared to xp.
all drivers installed from cd except graphic card driver is version 090519.
for some reason my fan speed sooooo fast O_o .Is that good for long term?
on powergear entertainment mode, hd3200, temperature is around 52±5 degree[not k10stat involved], no aircond. seems a "bit' noisy though from the fan. and the iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinggggggggggggggggg sound still exist rclxub.gif

problem encountered when using xp:
high temperature- idle is 75±5 degree...
very slow fan speed- maybe thats why temperature is high.
very slow when on battery, selalu sangkut2
cant use powerxpress to switch to onboard gpu

conclusion, use vista laa. very regret using xp before, wasting so much time trying to find driver and installing etc.
to utilize all function available on this laptop without hassle, i really recommend vista.
