How long batt life?

I ahven't tried with the iPhone 4 but with the 3Gs on iOS 3.xx if 3G was on all the time, the iPhone will last a maximum of 10-12 hours. The phone will get really hot if you use 3G to surf the net for a long time as well.

For those having problem with usage = standby

no solution, just restore the firmware
Just updated to 4.3.3 yesterday, upon restore, i could sense the iphone is using itself cause the usage time is moving even on standby. Well, worst scenario is restore back to 4.2.1
*
Not quite correct.

I used to have the same problem. Couldn't figure when or why it happens and still don't. I do notice that it will happen everytime I upgraded the firmware. Firstly to 4.3 and then to 4.3.1, 4.3.2 and 4.3.3.

What worked for me may not work for you. The problem for me was that I keep the mobile data switched off (I prefer to use wifi). So whenever the usage = standby time happens what I will do is switch on mobile data. I will leave it on for a few minutes and then switch it off. The standby time will now continue ticking but the usage time stops. Works everytime so far.

My theory is that something seem to be running in the background trying to send/receive data using the mobile network. Since I have it on off, it cannot do that and will go into a continuous loop which shows up as usage time even though the phone is in standby. By switching on the mobile data, the problem code will be able to complete its data send/receive and shut down. So no more unintended usage.

I'm using an iphone 4 by the way.

i hv the same problem with my iphone4 32gb. my battery barely last 4hours.. with minimal usage. Did a google and found a solution to sign out from AppStore in the phone itself. Now it is slightly better. give it a try!

There are various solutions suggested. Some work for others and some don't. No one knows why because everyone's phone is different. There is a list of suggested solutions here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/277731...rt=589&tstart=0. Quote from that:

0. Run the battery all the way down until the phone shuts off, then charge with the wall charger for 4 hours to recalibrate the battery gauge.

1. Reset Network settings and reboot (Hold HOME and SLEEP until you see an Apple logo, ignoring "slide to power off").

2. Reset All Settings and reboot.

3. if you have any push accounts open Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendar, tap on the account name and turn the 3 switches off. Back out of Settings. Open Mail, then Contacts, then Calendar to clear pending operations. Reboot. Then go back into settings and turn the switches back on. This clears stale connections to the Exchange server that consume data and power but do not pass information.

3a. If the problem still exists actually delete the Exchange account, reboot, and add it back.

4. Turn off Notifications and reboot. If this fixes it find the app that is sending data when it shouldn't. It will be an app that updates on its own, such as Facebook and other social networking apps, news apps, etc.

5. Kill all programs in the Recently Used ribbon. A long shot, but sometimes it helps.

6. Disable Game Center and Ping in Settings/Restrictions. These can use data and reduce battery life. If you actually use them after disabling them reboot, then enable them again. It may be a stale connection problem like Mail.

7. Disable Find my iPhone. Same as above. Likewise for App Store and iTunes store. Also a long shot, but some people have reported success.

8. If you've gotten this far go to Settings/Reset and Erase all content and settings, then Restore as a new phone without reloading your backup. Do not install any apps or set up email accounts. Test for a day. If this does NOT fix it contact Apple for a replacement phone.

9. If it DOES fix it try reloading your backup. If this breaks it redo the restore and do not reload the backup.

U need to jailbreak and install SBSettings, then u go to "Process" and can see all the process running.
I personally think jailbreak have more or less effect battery life, if u play hard on your phone theme, but not a critical point of battery drain fast la.

i already install sbsetting, how to go "process"? coz not have icon for sbsetting

Are you using a 3Gs? It's well known that leaving it on will reduce the battery life by 10% an hour. If you're on 4.3.1, even connecting it to Wifi will reduce the battery life (this does not happen on 4.3.2 or 4.2.1)

My advice is for you to update to the latest iOS, and if you're not using 3G, switch it off.

i have get this problem too. just leaving my iphone3gs without do anythings, battery life will be reduce fast. i`m now using os version 4.1. i`m want update my ios, but i scared if my data will be lost like phone contact,

it will be auto backup n restore ? or need do manual? coz i`m still newbies on iphone.

Also, how can I receive mms without connecting to cellular data? Because each time iw ant to receive mms, I turn on cellular data and 3G it will minus my credit. I am using DIGI Prepaid. Please advice. Thanks!

Also, turn off the Wifi if not using...that really sucks battery...Location service I on all the time...as long as I don't have GPS running in the background.

That's why you should get a data plan for iPhone. Smartphone is not a smartphone without internet.

is normal for ip4 for battery usage. my ip4 phone, average charge everyday due to calling, sms, surfing and gaming. nothing wrong with it.

anyway, did you terminate the background job (double click on home button)? if not, these is one of the reason why battery consume so much.

The best solution is to get data Plan.. U need to fully utilize ur phone's potential.. I used to be skceptical bout data plan.. But now all telcos offers many kind of data plan that fits ur lifestyle..

Me myself using lite broadband from celcom.. Only pays 28 for the package fo 300mb data (which is difficult to fully utilize it coz im not a heavy user plus got wifi at home)

Try data plan.. U wont regret it.. Plus u can make ur friends jelous by on9 anywhere u wanted.. lol.. I know my friends do bitter with me.. Haha

Added on May 16, 2011, 2:12 pmLol.. I think my solution is not for the battery management.. Anyway.. Its normal for iphone battery usage..

I just checked out the Celcom lite thing, seems like it's for home broadband and not handphone.

I'm also looking for a lite plan cos I only surf 1 hour during my breaktime using abt 800kb only. At home I oledi have streamyx wifi.

Previously, my iphone 4 can last for 3-4 days on normal and very low usage.

The usage time was about 9 hours and standby time was 3-4 days.

Wonder why today after fully charge, the usage time and standby time always the same now: 11 hours and battery % is dropping from 100% - 71% now.

Why and How to check which application is still on background?

+1. really sad to see ppl using smartphone w/o data plan. really missing the point

TS, just remember the top things that suck battery are wifi, 3g, location, brightness, 3d games and speakers. off wifi n 3g if u dont use it (cellular data would be fine. i leave it on all the time). use the suitable brightness level, dont need it to be full at the time unless under bright sunlight. and of course, quit running apps.

try to update to the latest software. i'm sure u'll see ppl say things like 4.3.3 makes battery life worse etc.. but somehow i see ppl can say such things just 1 day after updating. u dont need to be a statistics pro to see the problem there tongue.gif
