 Battery Drain/Usage on iPhone 2G/3G/3GS/4, What to do? How? Solution?

i have get this problem too. just leaving my iphone3gs without do anythings, battery life will be reduce fast. i`m now using os version 4.1. i`m want update my ios, but i scared if my data will be lost like phone contact,

it will be auto backup n restore ? or need do manual? coz i`m still newbies on iphone.

about ur contacts, u should have a backup anyway just in case u lost ur phone etc. i have all my contacts stored up in my gmail contacts, synced to my phone. lots of other alternatives around. u should look into it if u value ur contacts list

yes i remember back, every time i connect my phone to laptop/pc, itunes will show msg about update 4.3.3 , it seem like my old blackbery when i update to new os.. itunes will backup automatic right?
what the best on new OS? battery not drain fast?
