will be getting a hedgehog for the first time soon. but gonna have to shop for supplies first!

which pet store would be the best for buying all the supplies and which brands would you recommend for everything needed? smile.gif

kinda sucks to be new. but oh well.  biggrin.gif

Hmm, there aren't any brands out there catering to the needs of a hedgehog so you just use what you find suitable.

1.) Get a hideout box (buy a dome or make your own from an ice-cream box)
2.) Get water bottle (or bowl) and food bowl
3.) A cage that's not too small and escape-proof (Google for size or use a large storage box)
4.) Toilet roll (no need to buy, just use lots of tissue rolls)
5.) Yer olde' t-shirt (for burrowing/getting used to your smell)
6.) Bedding (if you choose to use it, never use cedar or corncob. Fleece is recommended)
7.) Lotsa love?

Read the first page for more specific information. biggrin.gif

So... I think Huffy secretly harbors super strength & flying abilities.
He (stays in the playpen) found his way into Chubster's storage box (which is about 15 inches high!) & went all macho man on her.

I found a rather large patch of blood on Chubster's back & found it to be from Huffy's injured footpad (serves him right from sexually assaulting Chubster against MY will). vmad.gif

I just cleaned his foot with water this morning. Any other precautions I should take to prevent infection?

I probably should start monitoring Chubster for signs of pregnancy. unsure.gif

Uhm, you mean like bedding?
Try fleece if you can put it in the cage.
Make sure the cage has solid flooring, no wires & such for their tiny feet to fall through.

This is Pinto. Pinto is a colour pattern, rather than a colour.

The colour of yours is closer to champagne IMO.

Sand or soil or anything with the micro particles is not appropriate for bedding. Even the common bedding like woodshavings sometimes contribute to health prob.

I usually put 2 layers of newspapers that cover inside box/cage entirely. then a piece of clothes or fleece is placed on top. I cut the fleece into half of the box/cage size, because I trained my hedgie to pee & poo at the newspapers area. the fleece is use as 'blanket', because hedgehog loves to dig & burrow. Before this I use woodshavings, it's easy to spot clean the area, but I don't like woodshavings because it's messy & my boy's scratching like mad due to flaky skin prob. So I opt for fleece & newspapers. Easier to clean. Just pakai buang

If you plan to use newspapers, don't expect that your hedgie will NOT mess the box/cage. Sometimes, they love to scratch the newspapers & dig beneath it. I even provide a 'bungalow' for my boy, but still he prefer to burrow under the newspapers. biggrin.gif

It is a great idea to put fleece on one half of the cage and newspaper on the other. I used to do that with a piece of cloth and my hedgie only pooped and peed at the area not covered by the cloth.

Hedgie's are somewhat clean creatures like that. <3

I wouldn't recommend using it at all.
It could get stuck to boy bits.

Fleece looks like this :

I found the exact same one in the picture in Tesco for RM15.90 last week. smile.gif Just go to the section where they sell bedsheets, towels & such.
