I'm starting of with a list (not in any particular order) of "horror" movie which I personally like and a short description of why

Eye, The (見鬼) 2002
One of the more original horror story, and from Asia

Mr. Vampire (殭屍先生) 1985
Ah this really brings back memories. I've bought this is SO many formats, it is NOT funny. Interesting that the director was SO over budget, they at the end he had to BEG for more money from the company boss (Sumo Hung). It cost 8 million HK dollars to make, and that was UNHEARD of then. The director's uncle were actually a taoist priest, and the movie were base on an accumulation of stories his uncle told him when he was young!

Nang Nak 1999
There were scenes in this movie, that still gives me goose pimples...

An American Werewolf in London 1981
Ah, the good old 80s. Was a shock when it first came out. Also inspired Michael Jackson's (may he rest in peace) Thriller MTV. And launch John Landis career as a director. Be warn, a little racy...

Cujo 1983
Ah. Again a rare Stephen King adaption I like (another is Needful Things, which I started a forum which nobody added to!!). Very well filmed movie. After this movie, the "kid" went on to star in a sitcom called Who's the Boss. Have to say, the kid stole the show.

Diary of the Dead 2007
Nice to know how people reacted in the first few hours of George A Romero's zombie story.

Dracula 2000
I don't know why I like this. I just do. Maybe how in a round about way it linked to the bible... hmmm

Final Destination
And the fourth one coming out soon would probably introduce new audience to this series. Still like the first one best.

Thir13en Ghosts 2001
Robert Zemecski and Joe Silver, reintroduce old horror movie in new light. They were suppose to make one every year but had stop after Gothika... Like the little stories they created for each ghost.

Fright Night 1996
A silly like vampire movie, which I like

From Dusk Till Dawn 1996
This is actually two movies, first part VERY Quentin Tarantino and the second Robert Rodriguez. Too bad the two had a fall out after Grindhouse movie.

From Hell 2001
Johnny Depp in another dark tale. Interesting how he started his career in Nightmare on Elm Street! A modern take on Jack the Ripper.

House on Haunted Hill 1999
The first of the supposed many from Robert Zemecski and Joe Silver collaboration. Well executed.

The Howling 1981
1981 was the year of the wolf. This year produce two excellent werewolf movie. This and An American Werewolf in London.

Joy Ride 2001
Creepy truck driver... Nuff said

Jeepers Creepers 2001
Now you know why Justin Long is in Drag Me to Hell, he was good in this one as well

Land of the Dead 2005
George A. Romero return to the Zombie genre. Horray!

Needful Things 1993
I like this movie about Satan. but apparently no one else apart from me had watched it. Watched and like it I suppose

Poltergeist 1982
A Steven "wunderkind" Spielberg dipped his toe into the horror genre

The Shining 1980
Brings new meaning to the term, Honey! I'm home!! "Redrum, REDRUM!!"

Slither 2006
I was horrified and rolled on the floor laughing as the same time. REALLY!!

Sleepy Hollow 1999
Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. What else does one has to say? Still think that his Jack Sparrow character is a hypebole if his Ichabod Crane character!!

Stir of Echoes 1999

One of the last few things Stan Winston worked on. I miss that guy...

I hope I didn't give the impression that the above are the ONLY horror movies I have watched. I was asked by a forumer to list down my top ten, but I did top 25 instead (not in sequence... I like to keep people guesing )

i saw its banner before it gave me goosebumps. But i didnt see the banner of this movie anywhere in malaysia

it seems like the directors now a days have ran out of ideas ... most of the new horror movies SUCK ... they are so boring that u can predict what is going to show up on the screen ... seems like its a dying genre ...

Well, I thought like you, until in 1999 Sixth Sense came along (the only reason why it is NOT in my list, is because it doesn't survive repeat viewing), and I went like, wow.... and then The Eye (asian version) came out, and it's like WAH, and the japanese ring came out that was just spooky.

This year, there is Dragged me to hell, and I seriously like it. I haven't had a chance to watch it again, so that is why, it is NOT in my list (have to survive repeat viewing). So don't give up on the genre

Most concepts are re-used but the packaging can be updated!

I think the problem with most horror movie nowadays is the packaging gets more and more elaborate, but the content is almost non existance (not a problem only in the horror genre)

I heard Thai horror movie is based on true event??

A lot of the paranormal pictures used in Shutter are suppose to be real.

Also, if you had watched Pang Brothers The Eye 10, some of the "superstitions" in the movie are suppose to be real as well.

Zombies are good...
But haunted house is a better and creepier option for me, hehehe.
Unfortunately, there are not many good ones out there.
I suppose 'The Shining' is one of the best but it is more like a haunted hotel.
Love 'Poltergeist' too.

wow i was addicted to poltergeist part 1 and part 2.

Part 3 was boring. And when i was watching part 3 at ending i saw it says in memory the lil girl name.

I have not seen the original 'House of Haunted Hill', but the remake is a bit of mess IMO.
Same goes with 'The Haunting'

Yes, 'The Others' is good.

Actually some people are speculating that the is a curse attached to this movie.

The actress who played the older sister died after making the first movie

The little girl as you know die making the 3rd.

The the lady who played the medium also died, not sure which movie, she was working on when that happened...

No doubt, the movie is entertaining.

It breaks my heart to see such a BEAUTIFUL set in such a BAD movie (The Haunting). The concept was good, but the delivery...

I don't think you'll like William Castle 1959's The House of Haunted Hill... to cam

William Castle would sometimes, hang skeleton on piano wire and whiz that into the audience during the screening of his movies to get some cheap scares!!

You know how they came out with the concept of the spectre glass in Thirteen Ghost, in the original William Castle version, the movie was one of the first 3D movies around, and patrons of the cinema were given 3D glasses.

In the modern take, the characters on the movie has to put on the spectre glass to see ghost... See, not so much new concept, but new packaging...

i like zombies too...but prefer the one in 28 days later/28 weeks later...fast n agile zombie is creepier IMO...even L4D copied that...

Two excellent movies as well.

Since we are on modern take of zombies, might as well mention, Resident Evil 1, 2 & 3. Also I Am Legend.

Forgive me for being slow, what is L4D??

Left 4 Dead, it is a game.

Anyway, slow moving zombies are good at scaring me too, LOL!

Some serious horror sh!t to scare out the kids but in the 70s and 80's like IT (the clown), and forgot already what is the name of the movie which aboutsome creature from other planet that looks like balls rolling when they'r running and has sharp teeth and short hands and legs. And not to forget the Child's Play movies. They were all scare the shit out most of the kids back then. Don't quiet follow the current horror movie. But asian produced some good horror shit lately including Malaysia like Congkak and Jangan Pandang Belakan. Well, that is ghost movie btw, sorry.

'The Critters'
It scares the hell outta me when i was a kid.
But they look too adorable for me now, LOL!
The Blob, is from outer space too and it scares the hell out of me even now.

IT clown was okay.
Child Play was scary first time around, not anymore...

Oh yeah, Critters. I checked back my hds, i found their all 3 movies which i copied from VCDs. The Critters 2 is not that good, it looked a horror comedy rather than pure horror. Oh yeah, talking about horror, Jason Vorhee and Freddy Krugger are the two unique characters that i alwayys liked. Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. Oh man, the horror movie in the 70s, 80s and 90s were mostly all great.

I liked the 1st, 3rd and The New Nightmare of Nightmare on Elm Street

As for Friday the 13th. Can never get good copies of the series, and I think (personal opinion only) that there were too many cooks, therefore wasn't a very clear direction to how the series should progress, a little "rojak"...

Same goes for the Halloween series.

For the music loves out there, it might be interesting to know that Halloween not only launch a horror movie series, it also help launch the Virgin music label which took a chance on a then unknown artisit called Mike Oldfield.

old horror slasher movie is more iconic than good actually...Friday The 13th only got like 2-3 good movies...not counting the remake...which is good btw...

Best HORROR MOVIE!!

I want to ask, somebody know this movie title :- The scene start with a group of teenager partying at an apartment. After that there are ghost/zombie went out from TV and infected all people at the apartment.

This movie quite old maybe from early 90's, i haven't finish watch it because my cd is damaged and lost.

Demons 2

Asia Argento was in the movie too, but she was just a kid.

I watched The Descent again last night, and it's still great. This is a movie which is both scary and frightening. Scary because it plays on our most basic fears - fear of the dark, fear of small spaces, fear of the unknown. Frightening because the frights are.... well, frightening. The period between going into the cave and the monsters appearing is, for my money, the scariest part of the movie. Very well shot and utterly claustrophobic! After that it is a full-on onslaught of monsters, gore, and frights. The second half, comprising of these three elements, does diminish a bit with repeat viewings, but it's terribly effective still. One of the best recent horror movies. 4/5

Another one by Neil Marshall I've seen is Dog Soldiers. I know it's highly regarded by some circles, but I found it to be complete dog poo. It isnt cheap B-horror gold. It's cheap B-horror shit.

[REC] is one which is truly omg-I-need-to-cover-my-eyes scary, especially the last 15 minutes. It isnt as good the second time, but the first experience is just... whoa.

I'm not sure if Carrie is a scary horror movie, but what it definitely is is a brilliant movie. And there is one almighty fright at the end.

John Carpenter's The Thing is one friggin suspenseful ride. It's basically a whodunit with a gory twist, and it's executed perfectly. Some of the best practical effects ever. A favourite of mine.

Alien is, of course, a landmark film.

Both Repulsion and Eraserhead, which I saw not long ago, to an extent are pretty scary movies. Both have a great sense of unease.

Poltergeist is a pretty entertaining movie, but I dont find it scary at all. Except that one scene where a man literally tears his face off.

Nightmare on Elm Street. I've only seen the first, but the only good things I can say about it are its premise and some of the gore effects, which are still pretty stellar today. Freddie Krueger sounds good on paper, and he is good when we dont see him, but actually seeing him in the flesh he's just laughable.

Yes, Carrie is a great movie. Also interesting to know that it is one of the first movie that hints at of part 2 at the end!!

The first Alien movie, is definitely a horror movie. Can still remember going to the movies to watch that with my elder brothers. Scared the heck out of me!!

Poltergeist good!

If you like the 1st nightmare, would recommend the 3rd as well.

Also forgot to put Dreamcatcher in my list which is at the beginning of the forum. Again a rare Stephen King book to movie adaption I like.

Both Repulsion and Eraserhead are not horror movies per se. If you can broaden the term 'horror', Repulsion is psychological horror. Eraserhead is just weird. Watch it for the experience. Another recent psychological horror I can think of is The Machinist. Seeing a skeletal Christian Bale is scary enough!

I watched Dreamcatcher years back (when it came out I think). I thought it was horrible then.

Btw how old are you Mov_freak? I awsnt even born when Alien came out.

the exorcist is one of the scariest movies ive ever seen, made me have nightmares in my sleep for 3 days..

and this one, im surpriced nobody mentioned this movie.. THE IT!
that damn pennywise the clown really scared the sh*t out of me when i was a kid.. i remember watching throughout the whole movie with my blanket in my hand, to cover my face whenever that idiot came out...

There's an old one called House, starring William Katt and George Wendt. There was also a sequel called House 2: The Second Story.

They're from the '80s, so there's plenty of crappy SFX - but that's not necessarily a bad thing with horror-comedy.

Yes, the ORIGINAL Exorcist was very good. The sequel wasn't much and the new ones were just BAD!!!

Are Prequels

Paul Schrader was original hired by Warner Brothers to make the prequel. Half way into production, the big wigs of Warner's weren't happy with the direction the director was taking. They fired him and hired Renny Harlin to finished the movie. Once the new director took over, there were story and character changes.

So if you watched the movie, there are characters who seems important at the beginning of the movie, suddenly disappears in the middle??

But it is a beautifully shot movie, just not much substance.

The movie BOMDED in the box office (*Surprise Surprise*)

So, Warner NOT satisfied with the results, rehired the original director back to reshoot the movie according to his visions (or was that recut, cannot remember) and after doing so, reissued to the cinema Exorcist: Dominion (2005) Paul Schrader, which SURPRISE, SURPRISE also bomded at the box office.... *Sigh*

So in short, don't waste your time. I certainly did!!!

I never watch the full film but that head cutting scene is brilliant.

Yesterday i watched Night Of The Demons. Quite cheesy and boring, today i'll watch the 2nd series. Hope it will not disappoint me.

Have not watched the original because it seems like it sells sex in its trailer.

Yeah many 18sx scene but thats typical for b-movie which is on lower budget and do not have mass-marketing. But that not the reason i watch them.

It is apparent that the director was going for something different and decided on Jewish lore but...

Well, the way the "evil/demon" is portraited was interesting, but there is a certain detachment about the storyline that doesn't invite the viewers into it.

Worth a view if you have the time. Not a must see.

If you like scary movie, YOU'LL WANT TO WATCHED THIS.

If you watch this on DVD/Blu-Ray, there is a special documentary about the really people in the movie. And the stuff they were talking about the house is EVEN SCARIER...

I've always love this movie

Watched it again on BD last Sunday and have to say, I've fallen in love with it all over again.

The costume design, the flow of the movie, the characters, the shadows and NO CGI!!

btw.. in the movie, & the end there, the older sister told the younger sister to hide, but in the end they didn't said that where is the younger sister does they?
if is not, then the sister been burn til dead also ?
