Two on a Guillotine (1965)

Director: William Conrad
Stars: Connie Stevens, Dean Jones, Cesar Romero

This is a horror movie.

I found two points of interest about this movie

1). This movie is produced by William Conrad Productions. Yes, THAT William Conrad from the TV Series Cannon (1971–1976) and much later Jake and the Fatman (1987–1992)

2) The main lead is Dean Jones (Herbie anyone?)

It is in black and white and is actually nicely remastered by Warner Brothers.

As for the actually story itself, there is nothing original about the movie.

I believe when this movie is made, alot of the hooks have already done by other movies, they were done better (eg was William Conrad trying to be William Castle?).

Another noteworthy thing about this movie, is It is the first movie when Rock and Roll is "featured" (at least by the thinking of Warner Brothers Executive) to make this a must see movie for "teenagers".

A decent "horror" if you have nothing better to watch. It is just that there is nothing surprising to the modern audiences.

I can recommend one good series - The Haunting of Hill House.

I can't say that it's terrifying, but it keeps me in suspense all ten episodes

Just watched Ju-On Origins over on Netflix. It's surprising good (maybe standards lowered since Ju-On: The final and The Grudge 2020 laugh.gif), and for the first time it made the bold choice of ditching Kayako/Toshio for a tale more focused on the house and it's inhabitants.

Definitely worth a watch for Ju-on fans, but unfortunately, season one kinda end on a cliffhanger just when things are picking up about the house's dark past.

Scream (2022)

It is incredible to thinnk that the first scream was release in 1996.

When it was first release it made alot of money.

With a "low budget" and a slew of up and coming young actors the movie made a killing at the box office.

Wes Craven was persuaded to make a second. Which from a production point of view it was a disaster.

The full script was leaked and Wes had to have the script writer at hand to rewrite the script on the fly.

The actors got their rewritten script piece meal

Special paper was used that made sure the script could not be photocopied...

The second did not gainer the critic and the viewing public and have toadd, it still made enough to have part 3 greenlit and made.

The third was much better and still the original just had that little magic that made it special.

Scream 4 (2011) was supposed to spearhead a new trilogy.... and it didnot (not enough box office)

And now, Scream 5....

They managed to get 4(?) actors from the first movie to return.

Focus is NOT on them.

New kids.

New kills.

New blood!

Seriously blood

Blood is everywhere in this movie

The kills are bloody.

Probably the bloodiest of the series.

There are some leap of faith in the storyline.

If you can accept that, you will enjoy the movie.

What amuses me is

If you love the movie series (not the TV series) you will like this.

Script... can be a little clunky at some parts.

Overall it is a good continuation of the movie series.

Surprised that no one mentioned The Medium (2021).

Recently around CNY, i watched this horror movie. Gotta say it's pretty good. At least it creeps me out. Watched it at night (LOL) but couldn't continue, was worried I can't sleep! Continued the rest of it next day.

The Medium (Thai) 2021
From IMDB: A horrifying story of a shaman's inheritance in the Isan region of Thailand. What could be possessing a family member might not be the Goddess they make it out to be.

It's a Thai mockumentary supernatural horror film directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun and produced by Na Hong-jin.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13446168/

Personal thoughts:
The movie appears in the form of "documentary" and recording so you kinda get some mix of paranormal activity/ blair witch project kinda feel.

I'll give this a good 8.5/10. It creeped me out and some part of the film did scare me good!

Probably 2-3 years late, but finally seen Midsommar and it was really good.

WARNING: the film has disturbing scenes/ visual cues

As with Hereditary, Ari Aster likes to shock viewers and give us some surprises. I was hesitant about watching it when friend recommended due to the cover image (doesn't give off the dark vibe of horror movies) but boy, am I glad that I finally watched it.

Synopsis (IMDB):
A couple travels to Northern Europe to visit a rural hometown's fabled Swedish mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.

POV:
The show tells you horror comes in many form. While you may think it's like some typical American horror, trust Ari Aster to remove cliché from the dictionary because it is not like what you'd expect.

Morbius (2022)

Remember in 1999 while you were watching The Matric and bullet time happened and you went, uhhhhh..... ahhhhhh.....

For some odd reason The Matrix Resurrections (2021) totally forgot waht made the 1999 The Matrix great... Great story and great effects

I thought I would have a terrible time at the movies with this film.

Well, the patrons behind me thought that they have the right to kick and put their legs up on the chairs in front of them, as they please...

Back to the movie... it is decent.

The first two act were actually very well done.

The why and why nots of the lead were well fleshed out.

There are scenes in the trailer that was not used....

The visual effects were a supped up bullet time and they are glorious!

Why the heck did The Matrix Resurrections (2021) forget this, I was never figure out.

Where this movie flatter is the last act...

I mostly enjoyed this.

I could do with people shaking my seat less and not see someone shoe near my head and have to add, that is life, you don't always get what you want.

My Two Sen

P.S. There are two short scene at the end but not the end end (eg after ALL the endcredits... Hope this make sense.

The Exorcism of God (2021)

Is this a good horror?

I would list it under well intended horror with very passionate producer and director. Has elements of greatness and does fall short of achieving that.

This is not your typical American horror.

The producers and directors are south American.

Most of the actors are south Americans with the exception of 2 (that I know of).

The premise is actually interesting.

This movie is an amalgamation of The Exorcist and Constantine and it does fall short.

If you have a craving for horror and have 1 hour plus to kill, give this a go.

Buckle up boys and girls. This is your latest most horrific thing you can watch this generation. In the past we have Cannibal Holocaust, Martyr, A Serbian Film, etc...Well The Sadness will be joining that list. The film borrow from one of the most disturbing comic book by Garth Ennis, Crossed. A virus caused human to be deranged mindless killers. They don't just kill, they also violate their victims. So be prepared to be drowned in really graphic violence and plenty of sexual assault going on in the movie. My wife got really pissed at me when she walks in unannounced during that mothereffing of a gratuitous zombie orgy. She hurled her paperback book at me. Just for context.

You watch this for bragging rights. By the way the movie directed by a Canadian who happens to work in Taiwan. So it's not an Asian handiwork. Nah we have yet to reach their sick demented level yet.
