QUOTE(overmars @ Jun 3 2009, 04:34 PM) Arsenal could match the 12m price tag, but not the 100k per week salary that has been offered by citeh. If Arsenal do really offer that much of salary to Barry, it will definitely cause unrest in our dressing room since most of our more "senior" players and heck even RvP and Andrey dont get 100k per week. I rather not see that happen. no need barry as man city snapped him up. Another unexpected signing from them. BarryThe signing of Barry is a marker for City. Unlike the Craig Bellamys and Wayne Bridges of this world, they have signed a player who could easily slot into Arsenal’s team. They have signed a player Arsene Wenger once wanted. Maybe the Arsenal boss is eyeing somebody better. Maybe he has earmarked the new Patrick Vieira. From one of the articles posted by Zan81 earlier *correction* http://www.setanta.com//uk/Blogs/Ben-Black...-in-the-blocks/ hmmm 1) Denilson and Song are good enough in the eyes of Le Boss. Le Boss did mention that the area he's most probably going to strengthen is our defence. He did not mention anything about our midfield if i remember correctly. 2) Le Boss already has someone better in his mind. *cough cana cough* |

Frankly speaking, all these Alonso, Barry, Melo talks are just fantasy.
Arsene don't have much cash to spend so the new signings will most likely be bargain deals. |

QUOTE(kimhoong @ Jun 3 2009, 01:47 PM) Nice stats you got there. Which is exactly the main point of the article that was reiterated by the author in the comments if anyone bothered to read them as well.As mentioned, although in raw eyes, Alonso is more superior than Denilson, statistically it isn't. The stats show something. Whether it's important or not, it depends on individuals For me, Alonso is STILL ahead of Denilson. It's his presence in the squad counts (physically or spiritually). Having his presence in the squad allows leadership and role-models (things I mentioned in previous posts) to shine HOWEVER, it doesn't mean Denilson is nothing or we can throw away the stats. The stats shows that Denilson is a good player - technically on the field. He can be a good player, a good "executor", a team player. He still lack of LEADERSHIP and PRESENCE in the team. Something Arsenal really really needs the most! Statistics show the best PERFORMER on the pitch, but it doesn't show which player is technically/physically/ or even psychologically better. A player can have the best technical ability in the world, but if he doesn't manage to produce results on the pitch (i.e. improve his stats) he's not going to be as effective as someone who does all the work well albeit in a less prominent/flashy way. No one will doubt that Alonso has better experience and probably technical abilities, but to disregard Denilson's achievements this season or claim that he's never going to improve anymore, is absolutely discouraging, if not insulting to him. QUOTE(kimhoong @ Jun 3 2009, 01:55 PM) All these while, what about Cana I know are from articles, blogs, youtubes, etc... I never watch him plays, forget about watching him to play for a FULL MATCH. Anyway, most of what I read show that we need him That's the problem with forum-hailed players... Cana, Veloso, Giovinco, and many others. Not to say that they are poor players, they must be doing something right to catch the eye of football fans; but I simply trust our scouts more than armchair football fans. As for Cana, the clips make him look absolutely badass but go watch Baptista on youtube and he'll look like a worldbeater as well. I've only watched Cana once when Marseille took on Shaktar Donesk in the UEFA cup quarter finals (great game to be honest), and he wasn't as impressive as he looks on youtube. To give him the benefit of doubt, it might be just an off day for him. QUOTE(kevlinefm @ Jun 3 2009, 06:52 PM) Frankly speaking, all these Alonso, Barry, Melo talks are just fantasy. Bargain deals doesn't equate unknown/low quality. Andy is the best example. Arsene don't have much cash to spend so the new signings will most likely be bargain deals. I don't know why everyone thinks Gareth Barry's transfer is a bargain deal. 12m transfer fee and on top of that an 80k a week wage demand isn't exactly a bargain for a player in his last year of his contract which you can sign for free on a pre contract in 6 months time and at his age.
Ability wise I don't rate him all too highly as well to be honest. A good player no doubt and if we sign him, great, otherwise no biggie, move on. I am actually tipping the likes of Denilson or even Song to be far better players than Barry will ever be sooner rather than later. This post has been edited by sigheart: Jun 3 2009, 09:54 PM |

We are now trying to avoid the sooner and later possibility. We need an established player and made an impact. Else its gonna be the same old next year chant again.Ability wise I don't rate him all too highly as well to be honest. A good player no doubt and if we sign him, great, otherwise no biggie, move on. best bargain deal we ever had? I'd say Cesc.
anyway, barry to mancity? ok la.. in it for the g's... so.. good for him. 80k per week and it's interesting to see how ManCity going to cope with it next season and aim for CL spot. In my opinion, our weakest spot is the defence. That should be address first. then the CM/DM position, then comes other positions. If Kaka really go to Real Madrid, I'd say goodbye to Adebayor. Added on June 4, 2009, 1:05 amseems like Chelsea chasing Kaka... AW! bid for Essien!!! This post has been edited by sakaito: Jun 4 2009, 01:05 AM |

Arsenal sign Ajax stopper
QUOTE Sport.co.uk understands Arsenal have completed the signing of AFC Ajax centre back Thomas Vermaelen for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million. According to sources inside the club, the deal for the Belgian international will be confirmed in the next 48 hours. The 23-year-old moved to Ajax in 2004 from Antwerp outfit Germinal Beerschot and has since played 85 times for the Amsterdam giants as well as accumulating 21 caps for his country. The news comes only hours after former Arsenal captain Tony Adams revealed that he had watched the player on behalf of Arsene Wenger but hinted that despite his obvious quality his physical attributes may let him down. "I think Thomas is a very good player but I don’t think he’s ready for the Arsenal," Adams told Setanta. "I don’t think the punters at Arsenal would like another small one. "I don’t know whether he’ll end up going for a bigger player. We’ll see how much money we’ve got first. "I have been looking at the Dutch league, but to be honest with you it’s been decimated. "It’s a poor league at the moment, there’s one or two players but they’re leaving too early as well." http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/20927...ax_stopper.aspx I'm not sure how reliable sport.co.uk is so I'll post further updates as they come by. QUOTE(Nostalgia @ Jun 4 2009, 01:33 AM) Arsenal sign Ajax stopper http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/stats?id=40543&cc=4716http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/20927...ax_stopper.aspx I'm not sure how reliable sport.co.uk is so I'll post further updates as they come by. At first i actually thought that 180cm and 73kg is considered okay for a CB... After some research, it kinda surprises that me that Toure actually stands at 1.83m..So, Toure will be getting someone shorter than him as partner? |

Let's hope it's for real this time since the last news I read about this transfer was Martin Jol trying to stop this transfer due obvious reasons
