Ade's for me, considering the importance and under the circumstances which he scored it. We were absolutely horrendous during that game and we never really did look like scoring. For a moment I just couldn't believe we scored until they replayed the goal did it then sink in for me.

As much as I am glad for Thierry to have finally won the Champions League and still love him to bits I can't help but feel that it will be a huge step back if Arsene sells say Ad or Van P and brings back Titi. Sill a good player without a doubt but its evident the years are starting to creep up on him. To be honest I'd prefer Van P, Ade and even Bendtner to a certain extent to start ahead of the current Thierry any day.

I too am not too sure about Pandev. All I know each time I start a new career in FM 09 he ends up at Chelsea sooner or later lol.

I don't rate Toulalan at all to be honest.

As for Hangeland I'm not sure but he seems to have a bad game each time I see him play. Then again I've only watched a few games involving Fulham though....

I'm actually happy with what we currently have at the moment and assuming everyone starts next season fit with no long term injuries we do not need to buy anyone at all apart from a defender, which is only because we are going to lose Eboue, Song, Toure and Ade to the African Cup Of Nations'. Losing Eboue, Toure and Song who can play as a defender as well would leave our defensive unit massively depleted. I won't even dare imagine who would play if either Djourou or Gallas or both gets injured assuming we don't sign anyone.

Congrats to Barcelona & Thiery Henry. Now we all know why Henry left Arsenal.

Hats off to Pep Guardiola. Ferguson managed the treble after many years at United but Guardiola did it in his first year. Simply amazing!!!!!

QUOTE(BaboonZ @ May 28 2009, 10:50 PM)
Can you count how many homegrown players were on the pitch for Barca? 7! Guardiola is a genius.

Man vs Baby (Evra vs Messi) and Baby won!
*
Guardiola still has a long way to go and plenty to prove before you can call him a genius or even compare him with the likes of Ferguson or perhaps even our very own Arsene for that matter. Its not that I am belittling his achievements or anything but the fact is he inherited possibly one of the best group of players in world football and the foundation of the team was basically already there when he arrived. Of course I won't deny that he still had work to do to turn one of the best group of players in world football into a winning team so credit must be given to him for that but it stops right there.

QUOTE(sakaito @ May 29 2009, 10:34 AM)
Barca is the epitome of homegrown players. Arsenal is trying to become barca and on the look of it, it seems that we are on the right path. Really hopeful that our young squad will come thru this year.

Tell me, 3 or 4 years ago, who was iniesta? Xavi was an outcast back then. Abidal was error prone in Lyon (that's why AW go for Sagna instead) and so was Puyol. What happened? They learned from their mistakes and move on. That's what we need to do with our team.

It takes a mixture of youth and experience to achieve greatness. AW need to address that and add some more experience to our team, especially at CB position.

ok.. enough about barca. congrats to them. btw, Henry can F*** off with his comments. I do hope we will be in the same group with barca next season ECL and pound them hard and out of the ECL at group stage!!!

QUOTE(Zan81 @ May 29 2009, 02:41 PM)
You are right in that some of their youngsters had the opportunity to learn from experienced pros such as Deco, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo etc etc.

But some of the things you pointed out are not quite right though.

Iniesta has always been a super player. Its just that the media didn't hype him up like Pretty Boy Ronaldo or Little Lionel. Xavi was never an outcast and has been in the first team for close to 10 years. In fact, 3-4 years ago he was already the Vice Captain. Abidal is a LB, so I don't see a link with Sagna and he's overrated IMHO. Puyol for me has always been a solid but nothing spectacular kind of defender, which is what you need in a CB sometimes. He's also been captain for quite a while now.
*
Yeap agree with Zan81 there. Iniesta was even deemed to be a bigger talent than Cesc during their youth team days. Cesc even revealed that one of the reasons he left Barca was because of players like Iniesta ahead of him in the pecking order hence the difficulty to get games. Xavi has never been an outcast. He has been an important player for Barca all this while and his appearance stats in the first team doesn't lie. Consistently more than 35 appearances for the last 10 years as well as 50++ odd appearances for the first team for the last 3 years in a row speaks volumes with the exception of 2005 where he only made 22 odd appearances because of injury problems. Same goes for Puyol. As for Abidal, Wenger he did go on record and revealed that he did not sign Abidal because he did not want to jeopardize Clichy's development.

Although I do agree with Sakaito though that in his early years Puyol is known to make some horrendous and costly mistakes. However fact is Barca stuck with Puyol. Same goes with Iniesta and Xavi. If its one thing we should learn from Barca it is to have faith in our youngsters. Experience can be harnessed whereas talent and natural ability is not something you can teach. Our kids right now certainly does have plenty of talent and natural ability, we just need to be patient.

Edit: Latest transfer rumour. Although I won't take it seriously at all and hopefully you won't as well as there are no quotes no nothing from the player himself. Moreover its from the Daily Star lolz But IMO just for amusement.

I want to be a Gunner

I have mixed feelings regarding this IF we do sign him but if Arsene decides this is the man to bring our team to the next level then I'm all for it though. Same goes to any other player if we do sign any.

Haha I just posted it because I found it amusing, don't get your hopes up too high lol. If you notice there are no quotes whatsoever directly from the player himself. So this is likely to be false. But then again who knows lol

I don't see us offering Barry that 80k a week contract even if a bid from us is accepted in the first place.

I don't know why everyone thinks Gareth Barry's transfer is a bargain deal. 12m transfer fee and on top of that an 80k a week wage demand isn't exactly a bargain for a player in his last year of his contract which you can sign for free on a pre contract in 6 months time and at his age.

Ability wise I don't rate him all too highly as well to be honest. A good player no doubt and if we sign him, great, otherwise no biggie, move on. I am actually tipping the likes of Denilson or even Song to be far better players than Barry will ever be sooner rather than later.

If this is to be believed seems we are close to signing Thomas Vermaelen for 10m pounds.

Arsenal Close To Signing Vermaelen

Then again it quoted The Sun as a source so I wouldn't get my hopes up too high considering how "reliable" The Sun can be.

Not until arsenal.com unveil him or posted officially in Soccernet.com

Yeah I know hence the "Or have we?"

Even if its posted on Soccernet.com but not Arse.com I still won't be convinced. Seems that now the only thing preventing the move from being completed is his contract demands.

Arsenal agree fee with Ajax but talks over Vermaelen’s personal terms stalled

Anyway any defensive signing is welcome for me at the moment IMO. Many people complain about his height but IMO you don't necessarily have to be the tallest to be a good defender. Puyol comes to mind and even Gallas and Toure aren't the tallest of defenders to begin with either.

Second that.
Ayala,Cannavaro,Cordoba isnt really tall but they are great defenders. Its true that our CB gets bullied in air battle but if we take a closer look on the goals conceeded, half of them are because of lack of concentaration. So if this Vermalen guy can organise the defend well and keep his full concentration on the game,it will be awesome.
*
Yeah and unfortunately some of them individual mistakes and lost of concentration came at the most crucial moments of our season sad.gif

Now this is something I do not want to see happening. Towards the end of last season we have begun to see the "old" Kolo Toure returning. Richards on the other hand seems to have taken a step back and if his reported "poor" attitude is true even the more we should avoid signing him.

I don't see the joy in Ronaldo leaving really. Man Utd now have the opportunity to build an even stronger team without Ronaldo than with Ronaldo IMO. They will not only have the money to replace Ronaldo but the likes of the waning Giggs, Scholes, and Neville as well to name a few. The possibilities are endless with 80m....

It will be really interesting to see who they sign now in the summer.
