Arsenal, Liverpool & Everton On Alert As Marseille Enforcer Looks To Move On
Premier League clubs Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton will be heartened by the comments made by Lorik Cana, with the Marseille captain conceding he could leave the Ligue 1 side this summer.
OM have just lost out on the French title to Bordeaux, with 25-year-old Cana revealing that even though he is under contract at the Stade Velodrome until 2012 the door is still open for him to leave France.
“Even if I have another three years on my contract, the door is still open for me to depart,” Cana said.
Cana went on to reveal that he will discuss his future at Marseille at the end of the campaign, with the midfield enforcer claiming the Premiership and Bundesliga are attractive to him and that it’s 50/50 on whether he stays at OM.
“I’ll talk to my family and the leaders [of Marseille] at the end of the season. I will not finish my career here. But I don’t want to hurry and I don’t want to leave without winning something for OM. Today, it’s 50-50,” he added.
“England and Germany are the two championships that interest me the most.”
Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is believed to be a big fan of Cana, with the Arsenal boss in the market for a midfield general to partner Cesc Fabregas at the Emirates Stadium. While, Reds boss Rafa Benitez is understood to see the former Paris St Germain player as the ideal replacement for Xabi Alonso, should the Spaniard depart Anfield.
Everton were heavily linked with a swoop for Cana last summer and manager David Moyes could rekindle his interest in the midfielder, should the Scot fail to land the Merseyside clubs main target Joao Moutinho at Sporting Lisbon.
Former Spurs Boss Vetoes Vermaelen Arsenal Move?
Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Martin Jol is believed to have vetoed the sale of Thomas Vermaelen to Spurs’ local Premier League rivals Arsenal after taking over from Marco van Basten at Ajax.
Jol, has only just arrived at the Amsterdam Arena after a successful campaign in the Bundesliga with Hamburg. However, his arrival could not have come at a worse time for Gunners manager Arsene Wenger. It understood Jol wants to keep Belgian International Vermaelen, who was believed to have been close to a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Wenger had identified 23-year-old Vermaelen as an ideal addition to his defensive options at the Premiership club, with the commanding central-defender also believed to have been on the radar of Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill. After scoring against the Villans in the UEFA Cup.
Now it is understood that Jol has told the board of the directors at the Godenzonen not to sell Vermaelen, with it thought that the Belgian stopper will remain in Amsterdam for another year at least.
This will come as a blow to Wenger, who is keen to tighten a defence at the North London club that the Frenchman feels is responsible for Arsenal falling just short on all fronts last season.

Arsenal To Join Liverpool, Spurs & Real Madrid In Race For Boro Starlet?
Arsenal are believed to be the latest Premier League club to show an interest in Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson, according to reports, with Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United also said to be tracking the Boro flier.
21-year-old Johnson came through the youth system at the Riverside Stadium to make his Premiership debut against the Gunners in 2005. The winger’s performances for Middlesbrough this term attracted attention from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the January transfer window, with Johnson likely to depart the North East this summer following Boro’s relegation to the Championship.
Johnson is understood to have already told Middlesbrough that he is keeping his options open, the winger having just a year to run on his contract at the Riverside. Boro boss Gareth Southgate will be loathed to lose Johnson, but knows that Middlesbrough need to trim the squad and wont be able to stand in the England Under-21 International’s way should a suitable offer arrive.
England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce has included Johnson in the squad for this, summers European Championships, where some good performances from the young winger, will surely cause the Boro players price tag to soar.
