I was searching up and down for translators in Auckland (not exactly in the city, more like the smaller towns out of Auckland) and fail, couldn't find it. Had to translate my Malaysia driving license so that I can convert it into NZ driving license. doh.gif Lucky I manage to dig up my expired international driving license.

So yea, just do the translation here in Malaysia, so much cheaper and save the hassle.
Yea, I have family there. biggrin.gif
Go there once in two years or so. Next trip maybe Feb 2015. tongue.gif

Where will you be heading to?

Ya. That was one of the funniest thing I heard when I was there. It was epic. Apparently Kiwis are very good drivers that follows the law. They never tailgate. Haha.

NZ is visa upon arrival, can stay maximum 3 months. Immigration might ask where you plan to go, how much money you have, etc. if you plan to stay so long though. Make sure you have all your documents prepared.

Car rental, shouldn't be a problem in Auckland. Ask your gf studying there to look/ask around. Will be easier for her to get info for cheaper car rentals.

Thanks for the heads up. I've checked on the NZ embassy website and yes it stated 3 months visa upon arrival.

About the questions. Are they really strict? The problem I'm afraid of is that I won't be carrying much money with me as I'm staying with my gf.

She will pay for my expenses and I plan to ask my parents to bank in some money into her NZ account so we could share our expenses..

Was wondering, could my public bank acc be accessed in NZ without getting penalize by the high transfer fees?

So it stated 1000NZD for a month of stay.. Would they depart me back if I don't have that amount of cash on hold?

Bring some cash and credit card. Show proof that your gf is staying/studying there as well. NZD1k isn't that much to bring anyway.

They can be quite strict, but they can also be quite lenient. It really depends. Prepare to be question left and right though. I've heard of them purposely giving some of the PRs a hard time asking them all sorts of questions. Personally, I've had no issues/complains with the immigration.

I'm not sure about accessing your bank over there. Pretty sure you could access it via ATM but it's gonna cost money for the service charge and stuff. Best is still withdraw cash, convert it and bring it over.

Have a second thought of working in NZ to gain some experience and exposure on the country and its culture. biggrin.gif

P/S: Sadly, all 2014 applications are filled. Is there any other way or I have to wait till next year's? ohmy.gif

Thanks for the rich info there monkey biggrin.gif

Btw, is there any general heads up for NZ? Anything I still need to know over there?

Like daily activities to help me be a little street smart there at the very least. rolleyes.gif

How long you plan to travel around NZ?

Actually u neednot any tour agency, u can
book via their website for car rental and hostel
For travel route, do some homework by refer to the
NZ map and circle out which destination u like to cover,
with less cost and shorter distance. some map provide
you with the actual distance take to travel by car.

Need decide on last city you want to end with car, then
take the inner flight back to Auckland. ( please get the airfare
detail before travel)

Assuming you travel for 1 month, the budget was way below
RM12k/person. For a budget self-drive travel, stay in youth hostel
, able to prepare own cook breakfast/dinner, RM14-15k( whole group)
exlcude airfare (fly from home & return, fly within NI & SI)
shall be reasonable. For yrs infor, i had been travel with my family of
four, 2 adult and 2 kids(3 and 6) in May 2012 for 12D11N(South Island),
my expenses was arround RM6.6k exluded airfare.
