I'm using iPhone 3GS from Maxis. Is cellular network data is the usage data from maxis? They give me 1GB free data, if the cellular network data is the one that they charge I can manage not to over use than 1GB to avoid extra charge. Are they reset the data usage every month when they bill me?

even without jailbreak & Cydia, your phone can still connect to the internet via apps that you've purchased (eg. games).

yes. that's the usage column which you can monitor. i don't think it's possible to go over 1GB that you've allocated to you unless you're a heavy surfer or tether. Maxis will reset it according to your billing period, amount will be prorated.

@ah1,
Weird because when I checked, they tell me they can't give me a breakdown each month. Ah well, perhaps rules have changed *shrugs* but it's a good thing I haven't found much discrepancies with my data charges smile.gif

Got problem with my Streamyx, can't login. I connect to internet using iPhone as my modem for my Macbook. Average daily usage is about 150MB download 20MB upload. Just surfing nothing much. I think if I always connect to the internet from my Macbook using iPhone the 1GB only last about 10days hahaha. Thanks for your reply and answer teikwing. So basically I don't need to reset it manually every month on my billing date? Since it's auto reset rite?

reset as in reset the data usage column in your iPhone? you'll need to do that in order to keep track of your usage for a particular billing period.

@pengejar,
If you're going to be using your iPhone for Internet Tethering and going to do v heavy surfing, 1GB might not be suffice. However, U should manually monitor your own usage and not go overboard smile.gif

As what teikwing has mentioned, U will need to manually set the Usage counter on ur i3GS - Maxis only sets their own counter at the end of your bill cycle.

Still confused. Usage data in my iPhone show the usage data since the first time I use it? Not for particular month and automatic reset after Maxis bill me? And the one that you mention earlier is which part? Which one that Maxis automatic reset after they bill me? Sorry if I ask a lot of questions.

@pengejar,
The Usage stats U see on your iPhone is from the day you started using the phone (unless you have reset it before). You will need to manually reset that counter at the end of your Maxis bill cycle.

Just a word of advise from my own situation. In digi, if you are using prepaid mobile, you will be charge RM10 for 1MB. I used it once for emergency and the bill came up to RM90 for 9MB. Not that I am blaming them but just be careful of the spending because it costs a lot.

Experiencing the usage of Wi-Fi VS idata

Hi for you guys out there, any one using WI-Fi to surf net but not the idata ?

I just found out the iphone 3gs have a little dark side, which will automatic hook up to idata even you do not subscribe the package. The problem come with if your WI-FI connection is weak, it will connect directly to the data without u knowing it ! So, if you do not subscribe any of the data this will cost you a boom. 14MB = RM114.00

Do share with me if you have this problem ! sad.gif

That is correct, you got to call Maxxx to menu turn it off, and also do not trust the report on Cellular Network Data.

The data is not accurate told by the operator !

I not too sure for other operator and postpaid, but for DIGI prepaid, just leave the APN in the cellular data network blank then it wont use edge, Only will connect to wifi when available.

But when you need to use the mobile internet, just type in the APN diginet and that will use the mobile internet by Digi.

Is there anywhere to activate and deactivate 3G/EDGE manually on the iphone so we can activate it only when we know we need to use mobile data services?
