QUOTE(teikwing @ Feb 9 2010, 09:47 AM) i beg to differ. i'm using a JB-ed iPhone 3G and still i am able to control my data usage with the help of SBSettings (inclusive of disabling APN access). i believe with SBS, i am able to handle my usage more efficiently as well (toggle on/off, no unnecessary data flow/usage). well, just like what i said before, its just a from my own experience, bro. dont get me wrong.TBH, i don't see why a non-JB phone would be more efficient in terms of data usage control. i believe it's the other way around. as both will have apps which access to the internet for updates/scores etc and with JB, you will have access to settings/configurations to control the data flow. and yes, 1GB is more than enough for a casual user. it's not 100% accurate but it gives you a rough figure of how much you've used. and yes, it does not includes WiFi data usage. and why JB is more efficient eh? and plus, i can say people who JB their always have a problem here and there. but people who dont JB only have a minor problem which is a normal thing for an iphone. Added on February 9, 2010, 7:35 pm QUOTE(fylon @ Feb 9 2010, 12:22 PM) Am stepping into my 4th month with my 3Gs. So far i never encounter any data usage issues. To be honest, mine were un-JB set from Maxis. And im on iData 2 package which offering 500mb bandwidth per month. Each month my data usage will never exceed 100mb. The highest that I ever capture is 78mb. Meaning im only using 15-18% of my total bandwidth each month. glad to hear this bro.Of cause, diff user will have different usage. For me, im using it mostly for checking & replying my work email, checking FB, skype (most of the time), MSN, Yak! & Ping with few friend of mine that stay at other side of the world whenever im not in with WiFi area. iPhone is a smartass where it will toggle between 3G data / WiFi data when u're having both at the same time and depending on the signal strength. Pardon me if wrong in this statement. I would say, the bandwidth control is more to user differ. Main thing is, u gotta know what ur doing exacting and what apps are using. Keep an eyes on those apps & game that required internet / real time data exchange / transfer. Most apps will display the alert of using 3G data when u run it and if keep an eyes on reading those notice. I was once been shocked too by this issues before I had my set on hand. But after I gotten it, and pay attention that my usage, usage overloading aint really put me in deep shit. All to all, i would said it depend on what u've done to ur phone. for me, it was. Is around more or less 5% different from the actual one stated in the bill. im also never had any data usage issues. and i didnt JB also. and you are correct, more or less 5% diff only from the bill. QUOTE(iphoneiphone @ Feb 9 2010, 07:30 PM) well, just like what i said before, its just a from my own experience, bro. dont get me wrong. Try not to put personal experience too much into it...as we really can't tell much how each other using the phone...and why JB is more efficient eh? and plus, i can say people who JB their always have a problem here and there. but people who dont JB only have a minor problem which is a normal thing for an iphone. u don jailbreak...ur data usage is fine.... he jailbreak, and using sbsettings to control the usage.... i jailbreak, i din use anything at all to cap any usage.... all 3 not over-use and din hav excessive bill like some of those unlucky 1.... jz as fylon said, i really down to wat app u use, whether u aware wat app u use, the settings u hav....etc most JBer face issue bcoz they jz jailbreak for the sake of free app n crack app, but they dunno what to go around with those config and settings, and the number is higher, bcoz unlocked phone r more prone, especially those app... there is non-JB user who faces it too....so an over-use is not JB fault, but user problem.... some expert user here can giv u advice on how to manage/control/disable, but in the end, its all up to hw u use it, if u don understand wat u using, then nothing much others can help. so try understand wat u hav, even u r not into it, at least u know and aware of. QUOTE(iphoneiphone @ Feb 9 2010, 07:30 PM) well, just like what i said before, its just a from my own experience, bro. dont get me wrong. nahh didn't get you wrong, mate.and why JB is more efficient eh? and plus, i can say people who JB their always have a problem here and there. but people who dont JB only have a minor problem which is a normal thing for an iphone. people who complains about unknown data usage are those who's not aware of how data usage works. the iPhone access data via various apps for high scores, push notifications and so on. as long as you're able to know which app actually does that and prevent it, i can conclude that you have nothing much to worry about. JB bring tons of possibilities for iPhones instead. you will not have bluetooth file transfer w/o JB, no themes, no additional controls over certain features and so on. it pretty much enhance the functions/features and brings some add-ons to the iPhones. on the bolded statement, you're able so state so due to the fact that you have 1GB data plan. from the posts, most who faced data usage issues are those without data plans or have a limited cap. JB does not bring misery to you as long as you know how stuff works. those who faced issues are those who didn't bother to read up and jumped into it. anyway, this not not supposed to be another 'to JB or not to JB' discussion. Dear all,
This is my way of disabling any data connection. Note: iPhone 3G, software unlocked, jailbroken 3.1.2, Celcom Executive 50 + Broadband Basic 128kbps. Step 1: Swipe across the top screen to launch SBSettings. Pay attention to the EDGE toggle that is marked in green (or any other forms that indicate that EDGE is "active"). ![]() Step 2: Touch the green EDGE toggle to switch it off. After a few seconds, the EDGE toggle will become red (or any other forms that indicate that EDGE is "inactive"). Take note that the "Data IP Address" is now marked as N/A. ![]() Step 3: Open Safari browser and test your internet connection. ![]() |
