Purpose-made is not the same as custom-made. I saw one for RM 799 at Fitness Concept. Kinda expensive. I tried using the crossbars at the top of my power rack as a dip station, but it looked like a long fall in case anything happened. So for now, it will remain a wish. Besides, my apartment looks too much like a gym now with my 9' tall power rack. Adding a dip station will make it look like I live in a gym.

Anything but fit. Skinny is more like it. I just got serious. I haven't yet put the infrastructure together to post pictures. But even with my own home gym, I work out no more often than what Rippetoe prescribes, i.e. 3X a week.

Added on May 14, 2009, 5:54 pmPortable staircase (ladder?) for dips sounds like quite an idea. I can't quite imagine it though. Do you use two staircases/ladders, or do you do it inside an opened A-shaped staircase?

Adjustable Kettler dumbells x 2 (max weight 15kg each)

Decline situp bench(convertable to flat and incline for presses..etc) x 1

Push up handle bars x 2

Used to use this set up last year when I didn't have access to a gym for about 5months. You can workout almost every muscle group to keep it in shape with just these.

-poor things have been collecting dust in my attic for 1/2 a year now, lol

Sure the one-on-one trainer is a flawed product. But look at it this way: I have a bench and you don't. You can hold out till the enlightened folks at Fitness Concept realize that their customers are better served if they'd start stocking their showrooms with sturdy benches, power racks, a full range of weight plates and olympic bars instead of overpriced programmable threadmills. When that day comes (if it comes), I'd have gained 20 kg and have a nice chest to show for it.

BTW ezone, are you Malaysian? You used the word "netter". That's German for "nicer".

Where do you guys get the clips to prevent the weights from falling off an olympic sized bar. I'm looking for those simple metal ones that bear almost no weight and function like a 'spring' that looks like an icecream scoop.

Difficult to explain but those who have seen it will know.

How much are they?

The gym back in Malaysia has no 'weightless' clips.

*

I bought it at RM 10.90 for dumbell (kettler) size...dunno the price for oly bar tho...

2 pairs of running shoes

2 different backpacks (weights) for fast hiking

1 plastic chair (seated weight work)...the chair is dying BTW.

Is it me or is weightlifting equipment priced at a premium here in Malaysia? When I was back in the US, I vaguely remember a friend outfitting his home gym with a power cage and a full set of plates for about $800 US, but when I look at the prices people are paying here...I dunno.

physically u know the differents right ??

barbell - bench press, shoulder training, squat, deadlift etc
ez bar - bicep curl, skullcrusher, upright row, etc

if you hv extra money, it's a good buy...if not, get the barbell 1st...

just my 2 cents...

I did a search on every fitness shop I can find-didn't manage to get ALL shops in Malaysia but most of it. I was searching for Power Rack, a good investment actually if you want a home gym but unfortunately, they all cost a bomb! Here's some of what i managed to find out:

Maxx Fitness Squat Rack
http://transmark.com.my/sfl/index.php?mid=...cts-item&id=648

Cost: RM 7,900.00

Hammer Strength Olympic Power Rack

Cost: RM 11,740.00

Hammer Strength Heavy Duty Half Rack
Cost: RM 10,800.00

And the one from Fitness Concept, the Marcy Heavy Duty Trainer, cost only RM 3000++

http://www.fitnessconcept.com.my/index.php...cts-item&id=732

It's a good investment. So if you have the money and space for it, go for it.

And to make sure I didn't go off topic, here's my gym equipments:

A barbell

A pair of Dumbbells(Maxx Fitness)

Apex Bench(selling off-pm me if you're interested)

A one-on-one trainer bench(selling off)

2x(2x2ft) rubber mat
2x10kg
4x5kg
4x2.5kg
4x1.25
4x0.5kg

P.S: if you wanna buy the two bench(still in good condition), email me at wilsonz91@hotmail.com

I'm hunting for a bench and dumbbell to start workout at home. Been doing survey on the prices and types of bench and dumbbells.

Need your kind advice bcos I've never bought these things before.

For bench: Saw one adjustable bench by Dynamex (Made in Malaysia) selling at RM250. Dynamex homepage doesn't have the picture but it looks like this one http://www.weidermalaysia.com/images/benches/f602.gif . I's quite sturdy and the total package weigh 16kg.

Another 2 models I'm interested in I just see from the picture
Weider 130 [March 2010 promotion price is RM299]: http://image.become.com/imageserver/s4/648...0/thumbnail.jpg

Weider 230 pro [2009 Xmas promotion price is RM272]: http://www.weidermalaysia.com/images/bench...ider_pro230.gif

Of these 3 models. I like Weider 230pro most because It has 4-roll leg lockdown and look sturdier than Weider 130. Dynamex one look 'cheap' and comes with only 2-roll leg lockdown

Hoping Weider will have Father's day promotion in June.

Any advice for a beginner? Which one has best bangs for the buck?

Why not buy the ones with the removable plates? You can add plates to make it heavier, and unload plates to make it lighter. I'm using the one from Kettler.

Colyan, you can get it from most fitness shops. Kettler sells them, Fitness Concept too. Or you can make a DIY one, just go to the hardware shop.

I went to Sunway Pyramid Fitness Concept and saw the model you mentioned - One 0n One Trainer. I asked the branch manager (Ken Tan) what is the price during promotion. He said the price will the the same, only difference is the free gift given. Can I trust his word?

I asked the manager also the maximum this bench can support. He said 100kg++. If you're > 60kg, + 20kgx2, + the force exerted while pressing the dumbbell. Can easily exceed 100kg.

Planning to buy a bench from Weider (Weider 130, http://pocketchange.become.com/wp-content/...slant-board.jpg] but currently out of stock, even the display unit has been sold. So I can't visually compare how sturdy Weider 130 and One-on-One Trainer. The Manager said offer price is RM399. Is this a better bench than One-on-One trainer?

I'll rather go to the gym and train. But yea, anything beats the one on one trainer, its got a weird design. I'm 86kg.
