How much is the D40 body only?

Brand new or second hand? I don't think there's any brand new D40 body around. Second hand should be about RM 800 +-

Most shops (that still have ready stock) sell D40 kit, they seldom sell body only, unless for middle-high range products like D90...

How much is the D40 kit going for? Is it standard 18-55 lens with VR? Or there are several types that I need to watch out for? Different lens config, some got VR some don't ... that kind of thing.

D40 kit lens have no VR. I bought mine last November at the price of RM 1500 brand new. Should be lower by now.

The standard D40 kit lens is the 18-55II without VR. There are however some shops that allow you to change to the VR version or change to 18-135 with a top up. Price that I last saw (Ipoh) a couple of weeks ago was RM 1650 for kit. Shops here are willing to sell the body only for a rebate of RM 250.
