Impossible. Not one DSLR in the market can do so.

the d90 kit lens 18-105VR... the previous tamron 1750 2.8 built in motor slow..i've missed a lot of important shots with that slow lens...

even the 1855VR/18105VR has a faster focus lock..trust me i know 1st hand.

That was for the built in motor lens. Do check out the earlier version of it but make sure it has no front/back focusing problem. Other than that, I'd say it's a really good lens.

My recommendations :

1. Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 HSM
2. Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 HSM
3. Older model of Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 without motor - No new ones anymore (Will NOT af on d5000/d60/d40 bodies)

If you're interested in the older model of tamron 1750, you can still find people selling it 2nd hand. The major concern of buying this lens is that most of the made in china version and some of the made in japan version have back/front focus problems and you need to fully test it with a focus test chart and also on your own to make sure that you're getting a good copy of the lens.

Yup that's a good lens, but still of all three (sigma, tamron & tokina), the tamron 1750 f/2.8 has the highest IQ overall. The only drawback of new tamron 1750 is that it's slow and for the older model, quite a lot are defective because of the back/front focus problems.

Speed wise, the Sigma 1850 f/2.8 HSM is the fastest of all three as it is the only one that has a high speed HSM motor (Nikon SWM equivalent)

Few things I would recommend:

1. Do not use aperture priority mode, use P mode. If you set the lens to 18mm there's a good chance that the lens will have a faster focus lock than at 50 or 105mm.

2. If you are using D90 / D5000, set the AUTO ISO (in auto iso set iso3200 as the limit). For D60 and lower models, use ISO1600 and below because if it's higher there's a lot of noise.

3. I would suggest u use your 18-105VR and turn the VR on. The problem with lenses like 18105VR, 18135, etc etc is that those lenses are do not have constant aperture so that's why in low light those lenses are slow to find focus.

Constant aperture lenses like Sigma 18-50 HSM f/2.8 or Nikon AFD 50mm f/1.8 will perform much better in low light.

What do you have in mind? I say this because the cheaper Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 performs much better than the more expensive Nikon AFS 12-24 f/4.

Maybe Sigma 10-20mm?
