Guys, tested my P4 rigs on Edmin's 5GB 720HD movie. Although my MX4000 doesnt help in encoding, but atleast I have no problem on playing them. Stock speed 3.0G + 1G ram + coreAVC = Rocking Ass! No lag at all. Only 2-3ms lag on the starting, after that it goes well.

manage to OC from 2.4 to 2.59 oni..if more than that pc will crash..crappy VIA chipset can't lock agp/pci freq

fylon tested his P4 3.0 with MX4000, no problem to play 720p also. kabu,no need to worry of the old school to playback HD movies.

fylon, how about 1080p? able to play smoothly?

No GC encode, the cpu usage quite high. Big gap between P4 and Quad when u see the cpu usage on HD playback. Hahah! Time to go DC.. Report back to night. Will take benchmark. Before and after.. Especially Pi score.

1080P is slide show. I understand with no help from GC encoding is going to utilize high CPU usage. No doubt there is a huge gap,not big gap between P4 and Quad core. Going to DC?Hehe,i think the benchmark for Super PI 1M will be > 80s.

Haha.. Trying to break 100s if can.. Just to fun to play with P4. OC/DC with P4 are the easiest one before. Up up up / down down down. Haha!

I think is the proc is running at 1.5GHz is going to be > than 100s.Set the RAM to run at CL2. 2-2-2-5.

Hmm, i doubt that all 720p is encoded in the same way. Me myself dl most of the 720p in 4-6gb+, there is no problem playing them with my p4. But when it come to certain 720p like sports event ESPN hd(most of em english premier league) it will choke alot. Can't do anything about it, my final solution is move ahead to current dragon platform. Now i can say all 720p can play smoothly liao(tested 108p too, the cpu usage seem no rasa at all but the size is too damn huge)

1080? 10-15GB per movee.. Looted some from edmin recently, but the satisfactions of watching 1080 is indescribable. Only 1 word " SOONG!! " (read in hockkien pls) Hahah!

Anyways, i believe the codec that they used to encoded makes the diff in the HD files u means. mkv is just a container, they file codec inside can be any kind thou. I do have some HD file which in mp4 format thou.

PII and p4 is far many generation different of technology la. of coz PII will win miles away.

now even with p4 can play 1080p smoothly. thanks to newer gc like ray's x2600xt.

Take a look of the print screen of this guy's rig. He was capable to play 1080P video playback with low cpu usage.

Hey guys, I know I no longer use a s478 system but I need to ask for some help

Lately when I plug in any USB device, like thumbdrives, printers etc my pc will freeze momentarily. For about 3-4 secs then back to normal. Anyone knows why?

from the screenshot doesn't seem like he's using coreavc. tweaking on the options on mpc perhaps?
or is there anything to do with ati's avivo?

ray, for sure he do some settings in his MPC to enable hardware acceleration. you go search guru3d for that guide. whenever you play x.264, your gc will help process the encoding. i believe yours should be able smoothly running 1080p. post some screeny on 1080p with your task manager.

Hmm,have no idea. Usually the screen will not freeze unless the Windows isn't clean enough.

I have no idea man. I bought the HD2600XT form him.Maybe i can pm him.

do post here what are the settings that he used.
there must be something wrong with my mpc, i tested with 1080p video+coreavc, my c2d cpu usage is hovering around 50%

Time for u to dig out some information for all the S478 fella here.. Go go go! Surprise that P4 can play 1080 with low cpu usage. Of cause we put in GC encoding in the account, but still wanted to know what are the setting and which version of MPC are he using.

Something is wrong eh? My lappy T5300 C2D also wont reach that high CPU usage. Probably player and codec makes the diff. Im on KMPlayer + CoreAVC on my lapppy. Actually KMPlayer itself has their own H.264 decoder also, but still wanna try to coreAVC.

i don't know. can't figure it out. did you guys install the media player classic seperately or together with the klite codec? i installed mpc from the klite codec installer, comes with it.

might wanna try it on my home 2.0G P4 just for the lulz
i have another friend who has lots of HD stuff, i'm sure he'll love it if can help him optimize his 3.0G cpu
