The latest decoder I received yesterday has composite, S-video as well as component video out, and LR-audio, optical audio out as well as USB port in front. This decoder was just launched very recently replacing the component-out-no-s-video decoders.

This is the latest then. Thomson? My 2 mth old one has just component out and no s-video.

Why launch another new analogue one when HD's around the corner? Oh yeah, they didnt say which corner ...

I'm moving house and to relocate the astro equipment I need to pay at least RM150 for dismantling and reinstalling. But to subscribe new, I need to pay only RM30 to the installer and no other charges, except I have to sign a new 2-year contract. I figured I wasn't planning to move in 2 years time and getting a new decoder which is supposed to be HD-capable (?) is great... well the choice is obvious. I tried to save the planet by reusing my existing decoders (yeah, 2 decoders actually) but it seems that astro is punishing me for that .... grrr......

I had the same idea...I too am moving to a new place and will be getting a new astro subscription.

BTW....the coming-soon-HD astro, will we still be using the current rg6 cabling?

Quite likely it will be RG6! Make sure no cheapo RG6 cable for your new house.

which spec of RG 6 cable are being use for astro installation currently? they are using RG 5 and RG 6 for HDTV receiver in other country, cannot use back the current cable if astro go HD?

currently astro is using DVB-S standard to transmit SD signal, for HD tranasmission which would probably use either DVB-S2 or DVB-S + Mpeg4, in both cases, we need a new decoder to decode the new signal

rg-6 cable, LNB + satellite dish do not need to be replaced, by the way current cable bandwidth requirement is 2500 MHz, HD trnamissio9n requirement does not require extra demand on cable, they uses the same bandwidth because of its improved signal compression algorithm.

sorry arr...i seem able to digest little bit of info but not enough to understand the whole thing..

Astro is owned by Measat owned by Binariang...Measat-3a already able to beam HD contents...able to compress HD signals to mpeg4 & transmit via DVB-S/S2 to HD receivers...

how come Astro, its own brand, not able to deliver HD contents to end subscriber?

I have not seen a single HD receiver capable of receiving mpeg4 or dvb-s2 signal release by astro to the end user yet, I don't think current dvb-s decoder would be able to be upgraded by firmware to receive mpeg4 signal

if you read this page
http://www.lyngsat.com/mea3a.html
measat satellite is already transmitting HD channel but on C-band, so technically they are already capable to go HD, my guess is astro is in testing phase before launching their HD package, earning more milk money from those who are willing to pay more for watching their HD channels
