QUOTE(DigitalTech @ Oct 23 2009, 10:39 PM) What we can do now to improve the Astro PQ is to plug in a good build cable, eg Monster cables. It does improve the PQ by 10-20%. Many of my customers acknowledged that improvement. "Astro going HD" is considered fictional at this point of time. how do you quantify the 10-20 PQ improvement? what kind of super duper alien alloy monster cable are made of that make it better than other cable?

QUOTE(daryl.k @ Oct 27 2009, 11:27 PM) sorry arr...i seem able to digest little bit of info but not enough to understand the whole thing.. Astro is owned by Measat owned by Binariang...Measat-3a already able to beam HD contents...able to compress HD signals to mpeg4 & transmit via DVB-S/S2 to HD receivers... how come Astro, its own brand, not able to deliver HD contents to end subscriber? Measat also carry content for other company, like axn korea in HD. but astro do have the HD broadcasting and decoder hardware in place to move to HD yet http://www.lyngsat.com/hd/mea3.htmlThis post has been edited by robertngo: Oct 28 2009, 12:13 AM

QUOTE(Boat Collector @ Oct 31 2009, 12:57 PM) Don't get me wrong bro.. I too want to see more competition... more competition means better deal for us consumers.. but I was just making the point that it is difficult for new entrants into the market because Astro has choked any potential competition, plus the super long, government given monopoly status it receives gives it an unfair advantage.. Kinda a chicken and egg story la.. we subscribe to Astro because there is no other alternative, but because we all already subscribe to Astro, difficult for new players in the market.. so Astro continues to give us mediocre products... the re-runs on the Astro are unbelievable.. sometimes totally nothing to see as we've already seen the programmes on Astro before. Dont need to have new player in the market, just make it legal people to install receiver for free to air satelite channel. The dish plus decoder cheapest package only cost 200+. by them Astro will surely make more effort to improve their quality. the only reason this will not happen is the government desire to control what you can watch on tv. QUOTE(alimantap @ Nov 2 2009, 12:03 PM) is it possible and feasible for astro to go HD? like for audience who might not have budget to buy TV that support it? maybe they consider that non HD TV set will not go blank when they receive HD signal. it is not like switching from analog to digital TV.

QUOTE(SiriuslyCold @ Nov 15 2009, 11:57 AM) Here we go again. Get a clue... Astro has been digital since the start of transmission. this title is totally misleading, and the quality of astro broadcast itself also make people think it is not a digital broadcast.

QUOTE(SiriuslyCold @ Nov 24 2009, 11:59 AM) one would hope eventually all channels will be in HD. to start off only a few, but where in the world have you come across a HD implementation where every channel went HD at the same time? yah, the entire content production need to be changed to move to HD, many foreign channel like ESPN, Natgeo already have HD so there is no problem for astro to roll them out when they have upgraded their broadcast center. local content will have to invest in upgrading their production process to HD, this may take some time and a lot of money. but it dont think some of the channel like the news channel really need to have HD. do you really need to be able to see the wrinkle on the presenter's face?

QUOTE(carte82 @ Nov 24 2009, 12:58 PM) But interestingly CNN, BBC, Al-Jazeera, CNBC already in HD, it's the future trend! Everything in HD, so that we can see who hold the pepper spray in clarity and no more argument. Just like past day, you cannot say news no need to be in colour, only dramas. actually HD would not help the pepper spray case , the source need to be in HD else it is just garbage in garbage out. it really depend on the station to decide if it is worth to replace their current SD production system with HD one.

QUOTE(anfieldude @ Nov 25 2009, 01:59 PM) By any chance are the other channels sports channels? yah, sport package is more important, since we have other *choice* when come to movie and TV, HD sport package is the real selling point for HD rollout.

QUOTE(carte82 @ Nov 25 2009, 02:03 PM) Total digital FTA channel to be 19, including RTM and Media Prima. So there are some empty slot for new channel to be introduced. RTM HD whenever trial run will be aired to whole Klang Valley. Thus any USB TV receiver with DVB-T will able to capture the signal, even now you can receive some trial channel in clarity and with EPG. Also some digital RTM radio channel. they need to add 7,000 hour of content per month, 80% local, i wonder how can RTM pay for these content and will there be enough ads revenue to cover it.

QUOTE(accs_centre @ Nov 25 2009, 01:51 PM) side news from retailer ASTRO HD will be having around 5 HD channels with resolution 1080i.. They included National Geo and HBO.. Thus, only viewer who take those packages can install the HD decoder from ASTRO.. The freq required for HD signal is very high.. Those using Main disc in apartments cannot use the HD service as it need special bigger disc..And those with bad quality wall conceal coaxial cable (usually developer wanna save cost then use china mada wire) also will having problem to use it.. damn, that mean my condo will have problem with this HD reception.

QUOTE(toda6866 @ Nov 26 2009, 03:05 PM) its true some of the old shows are truly fun n thrilling, unmatched by nowadays those bad 'young faces' or 'just-a-pretty-face-with-shitty-acting-skills' or ugly 'copy-cat-storyline-copy-from-korean/jap/eng-titles' remember those really good ones like TVB's threshold of an era? or those Magyver, Airwolf or those smurfs? list goes on... theres a market for sure, but dun put ur hopes on ash-throw la, jz go search somewhere in the www.iloveonlinestreaming.com then can find edi i think for US tv show, the old show all now look silly and lame, the newer series have production value unimaginable just 20 years ago. like HBO next year march will air The Pacific, this miniseries have budget of $250 million for 10 episode.

QUOTE(Lone*Wolf @ Nov 26 2009, 03:31 PM) Just to add confirmation to the Astro HD issue. My kawan from the press has been invited for Astro's media briefing on the impending arrival of HD to Astro next week. Of course, the billion dollar question is still when, but hopefully we will know by next week rollout next week but no ads campaign?
