hence, to jailbreak an 3GS on 3.0.1, restore thru iTunes with 3.0.1 but jailbreak using redsn0w with 3.0.
Meh, for some reason I can't JB my 3G.
Upgraded to 3.0.1 via iTunes.
Ran redsn0w 0.8 and chose the 3.0 firmware
After putting the phone into DFU mode, redsn0w hangs on "waiting for device to reboot."

[edit] found a guide that says
Update: If your iPhone 3GS is stuck on “Waiting for reboot” unplug your USB cable and plug it back in. but it doesn't work still, stuck at waiting for reboot.
If I put my 3G in DFU mode BEFORE running redsn0w, then redsn0w goes through the jailbreak process and reports it as OK, but the phone isn't actually Jb'ed (i.e. no pineapple logo, etc etc).
Any ideas?
