hm, anyone successfully jb their phone using 3.0.1 firmware, i can't the redsnow program dun recognize the firmware

hmmmm, I currently using iPhone 3Gs unlocked from maxis with version 3.0.1. Using the lastest iTune as well. I followed the instruction from http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4303 and I already downloaded both redsn0w 0.8 and iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw as mentioned in the guide. I did a restore before executing anything and when I run redsn0w, when asked to select the ipsw, I can't select the iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw which I downloaded earlier. Can anyone help me with this?

if u using 3gs the u have to download iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw, not iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw.... that is for 3g

I downloaded the right ipsw already. When I run redsn0w and when I browse for the ipsw, it won't show up even I browse it at the folder I placed it in, therefore, I couldn't continue the process.

That topic eventually get me back to the tutorial for 3G. Any guides for 3Gs and do I HAVE to restore my phone before the jailbreaking?

redsn0w will only support up to OS 3.0. therefore, the 3.0.1 won't show up in redsn0w.

in short,

you'll need 3.0.1 to restore your phone in iTunes, but 3.0 is needed when u jailbreak you phone using redsn0w.

*jailbreaking both 3G and 3GS using redsn0w follows the same exact steps. the difference is that 3GS can be jailbroken with either redsn0w or PurpleRa1n, while 3G will only work on redsn0w.

yeah, i jb with 3.0 ispw, n' in the itune still not updated as 3.0.1, but when i got home, start the itune again it show 3.0.1

I wanna recommend Pandora's Box. It helps you search for apps in the apps store that have promotions going on i.e. Price drops and apps that have gone FREE. Sure, some of the apps are crappy, and I guess that's why they drop the price in the first place. But there are some great apps out there that had a price drop or went free for a limited time. e.g. Peggle had a price drop for awhile few weeks back.

Okay, sorry for asking but just wanna recomfirm. My iPhone 3Gs unlocked with version 3.0.1 can be unlocked with redsn0w right? I don't have to downgrade the version to version 3.0 right? As for the problem I was facing earlier, my redsn0w exe couldn't detect any ipsw because I downloaded the 3.0.1 ipsw right? So I gotta download the 3.0 ipsw from the link above. Just wanna re-comfirm.

By the way, I thought I read somewhere that PurpleRa1n works with OS 3.0.1? Is that the reason why when I tried jailbreaking my phone with PurpleRa1n, it hang-ed at the "done, wait for reboot" phase?

I think u'd need to downgrade to 3.0..

Prior to my attempt to JB, I had 3.0.1 installed and couldn't get the redsn0w to recognize the file.. until i downgrade to 3.0 and it managed to recognize to file now..

Another problem.. when the JB process started, redsn0w crashed.. any idea y? I'm using version 0.8

hey i wanna ask..if i jailbreak my iphone using redsnow can i still customize my winterboard or must i JB using pwnagetool to be able to do any winterboard customization?

after u JB-ed u will b able to install d winterboard by using cydia, it doesnt realli a matter which matter u r using to JB it.

u dun need to download your i3gs to 3.0.
when redsnow ask to browse the firmware (ipsw file)... just point to firmware 3.0..
then u will manage to jb it.

another thing is u dun unlock with redsnow..... u jb with redsnow.. if dun understand those jb n unlock terms, then i suggest u read d information on first page.

Hmm..I finally got it to work, but then I reached the phase whereby I were asked to check the boxes for both Cydia and Icy. I just wanna ask what is Icy? I know Cydia but Icy? I dont know anything bout Icy.

have u download d correct ipsw files? u got to download firmware 3.0 ipsw file for jb.
is there any .zip extension behind the files? if yes delete d .zip... the file should end with .ipsw

Fuhhh....I finally jailbroke my phone...thanks for all the help!

Here are what I did to JB with Redsn0w:

Downloaded the following:
iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw (version 3.0) and redsn0w 0.8

1. Downgraded from version 3.0.1 using iTunes 8.2
2. Restore my iPhone 3G[S] to iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
3. Run redsn0w 0.8 and select the same ipsw file as above
4. Unchecked Icy
5. DONE!

I had updated my iPhone 3G[S] with version 3.0.1 using iTunes prior to jailbreaking but unfortunately, redsn0w was not able to recognize the same version I downloaded in Post #2 (iPhone2,1_3.0.1_7A400_Restore.ipsw - version 3.0.1). Thus, I restored it with iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw and redsn0w managed to recognize it.

Encountered another problem during the jailbreaking process - redsn0w crashed and terminated. Then found out Icy may be causing this. I run redsn0w again but this time with Icy unchecked. I was able to see the jailbreaking process on my iPhone 3G[S]! Cydia is in the springboard/winterboard!

One question: My iPhone 3G[S] is an officially unlocked set from Maxis. So, do I still need to run the unlocking process?

Nope. You don't need to unlock with ultrasn0w.

You can now enjoy a fully legally unlocked phone with 3rd party apps.

Maxis/officially-unlocked sets = no unlocking needed.

hence, to jailbreak an 3GS on 3.0.1, restore thru iTunes with 3.0.1 but jailbreak using redsn0w with 3.0.
