Its possible to jailbreak but its going to be hard . Just to correct you guys

so how to differentiate the JBable one with the unJBable one.......

sorry to barge in like this.....but i need an opinion.......if i were to buy iphone right know or within this year.....does it can be JBable........coz ive read about the apple doing something to the bootROM to disabling us from doing a JB......????

I think more than likely any new iPhone stocks after the next few batches would be updated with the new bootrom

Blackra1n injects 24kpwn payload to 3G/3GS/iPod 2G/ipod 1G + lib_usb exploit , making it un tethereded jailbreak. Now for the new Touch 3G , and 3GS , apple has fixed the known 24kpwn exploit - which means that its sill possible to jailbreak. It has to be tethered - meaning that if your iPhone hangs in the middle of a meeting or if you need to reboot - you can't - you'll have to use a PC to assist the iPhone to do a reboot.

There are two kinds of exploit. an Iboot exploit allows jailbreak of the file system but then you'll still have to find a boot ROM exploit to disable apple check on the kernel and file system so that the device can still reboot.

downloaded 3.01 at the first post and when everything goes smooth at iTunes, i start running redsnOw 0.8 and i get stuck at
" Unable to recognize specific IPSW" ? from 2.2 --> 3.01
what should i do now?

Terence, you're on windows or mac? Sometimes, the ipsw file you downloaded is corrupted, or could be the extension is under .zip , so u need to rename it. You need to provide more information.

Im on Mac...i realized that custom IPSW can only works with iTUnes where im installing straight from 2.2 --> 3.01 IPSW

For redsnOw it only recognize original Apple IPSW ( my mistake) so manage to download IPSW 3.0 from the first page n google abit...

Anyway it works! and now im on 3.01

If you are stuck in "waiting for reboot...." while using redsn0w simply unplug and replug your usb cable. This works most of the time. [cpich3g - a DevTeam member]

Oh, and firmware 3.1.2 is out, so.. if you feel the need of being up to date, then youre good to go.

because using pwnage u can also jb OTB 3.1 and prevent from upgrade the baseband.....no prob for now

You can just use pwnagetool , its the proper way to jailbreak

yes...i also found out that blackra1n a big tough for the 3g...geohotz also stated he make it rain with 6 try...but it work for me also...after a few try...try to use custom firmware to jailbreak ur phone

try TURN ON the "Airplane Mode" and also ensure iTunes has no "iPhone connected" (but iTunes is opened).
Then run Blackra1n. If you are lucky enough, it will work with just 1 run.

I've just jailbroken my iPhone 3G 16GB a few days ago, from firmware 3.0 to 3.1.2. using Pwnage-made ipsw that was given to me.[Cant remember the url atm]

At first, all seems well. Today, my phone app and contacts app dont work. Basically, upon touch, they open but the phone was blank (no visual of the currently selected tab), similar to Contacts (no list of names). They stay open for 1-2 seconds and immediately crashed back to springboard.

As to the cause, i couldn't pinpoint anything. For contacts i've ssh back the sqlite.db from 3.0 over to this 3.1.2 to preserve the old names, likewise as in SMS which shows no problem.

Does anybody know as to what the cause might be?
Do i have to restore using new made-from-scratch pwnage ipsw?
Or must i downgrade to 3.0 and get 3.0.1 - 3.1 first?

Any help / guide would be very much appreciated.....

winterboard is your issues if you've that installed
disable all your old themes and do it back to the original state.
thats what i can only think of for your situation.
