Mac Pwnagetool and Redsn0w



Here are some details on our latest version of PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X which supports the 3.1.2 release of the iPhone software for iPhone 2G/3G/3GS and iPod Touch 1G/2G.

1. If you’re already jailbroken (by whatever means), you don’t need to mess around with DFU mode at all. Just create (or get from a friend) your custom IPSW and Option-Restore (Shift-Restore on Windows) to it via iTunes. Don’t enter DFU mode at all. Please make sure you are restoring to the custom IPSW, not the stock one from Apple! For best results, use the latest iTunes (9.0.1) — which includes a nice new application organizer.

2. This release allows your baseband to remain unlocked at 3.1.2, but it does not unlock a new baseband put there by restoring to official 3.1.x. It is super important that people who need the unlock to understand they can keep it only by starting at 3.0 (or earlier) and updating solely to custom IPSWs that don’t update the baseband. For those who have been onboard the “unlock train”, simply install ultrasn0w via Cydia once you’ve restored to your custom IPSW. Don’t forget to turn off the “3G” setting in Settings->General->Network if you use T-Mobile in the U.S.A.

3. Note for 3GS users not already jailbroken and stuck at 3.1.x: this version of PwnageTool has a side feature to jailbreak your 3GS. It uses a simple implementation of the usb control msg hole found by chronicdev, geohot, and our very own gray. Now that the hole is public and in use, we expect Apple to close it by the next major firmware update. That’s why 3GS users need to get their ECID hashes for 3.1.x now, and need to stay onboard the “jailbreak train” in all future updates.

4. For the early adopters who ran blackra1n and are having problems with mobilesubstrate, winterboard, diskaid, or ifunbox, you can install a custom .ipsw from PwnageTool to fix these issues. That’s because all jailbroken devices accept a custom .ipsw created by PwnageTool. (However, if you ran blackra1n on a 3G or 3GS that means you updated to stock 3.1.x, and the carrier unlock is now out of reach. We’ll continue to work on a carrier unlock for the latest basebands, but the timeframe for such an unlock is unknowable.)

Note: If you use internet tethering on a carrier that doesn’t officially support it, you’ll lose it by going to 3.1.x. Stay back at 3.0 until a hack for that is developed.

DETAILS:

1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G(S) with ultrasn0w and rely on ultrasn0w to obtain cellular service then you should only update your device with an .ipsw that is made with the new PwnageTool. There are no second chances with this. You need to remember that PwnageTool will provide an upgrade path to newer versions of the iPhone software in the future.
2. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
3. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
4. PwnageTool will work for the iPhone 3GS
5. PwnageTool will work for the iPod touch 2G
6. PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G(S) and the iPod touch (1st Generation and 2nd Generation) but NOT the iPod touch 3rd generation.
7. For 3G and 3G(S) users who are Pwned, PwnageTool is your key to updating in the future, just remember to never install an update directly from Apple, always use an .ipsw that has been created with PwnageTool.
8. There is no Windows version of PwnageTool it is a Mac OS X tool only, we are not developing a Windows version of PwnageTool.

Update: geohot released a Windows jailbreak called “blackra1n” which is similar to redsn0w in that it covers multiple devices (and it covers beyond just firmware 3.0.1 where redsn0w currently stops). blackra1n is not a carrier unlock. You must always avoid updating your baseband to maintain your unlockability. If you use blackra1n to jailbreak 3.1 or 3.1.2, the steps you take before running blackra1n will prevent the unlock from working on your iPhone for potentially a very long time. By the way, we haven’t yet tested whether a blackra1n’d device can accept a custom IPSW without tweaks, but if it doesn’t then it should only require a minor change. [DevTeam]

Take Note:

3. Stuck at reboot
A: Your results may vary using Windows Vista to jailbreak as there's some incompatability issues with drivers etc as forumers failed to complete jailbreak with "Waiting for Reboot" and Waiting for Reboot" does not take more than 15 minutes. Please use Windows XP if you have the option. If not, read below. [/color][/b]
Solution is to boot to "Safe Mode" and set Redsn0w compatibility with XP and admin and proceed to redo jailbreak as we assume that it could be dll/drivers incompatability which hinders the completion jailbreak process. Jailbreak success under "Safe Mode". (tested by Shock)

iPhone 3G/3GS owners who found themselves stuck with version 05.11 of the baseband (either by accident or because they bought it that way) are now in luck! geohot was able to turn the already-public at+xemn crash into an injection vector, which can be used to inject his version of the unlock. The blacksn0w unlock is available for free via Cydia by adding the repository http://blackra1n.com in the Manage->Sources panel. Congratulations, geohot!

Those of you who are already unlocked at 3.1.2 because you kept your 04.26 baseband now have an extra cushion of comfort, and more choices: ultrasn0w, purplesn0w, and now blacksn0w (and of course the original yellowsn0w too if you’re still back at FW 2.x). Whether or not you choose to update your baseband solely to use the new unlock is a personal choice, but so far there are no advantages to doing so (and remember you can’t come back to 04.26 after you’ve gone to 05.11).

Blackra1n For Mac And Windows [By geohotz]

This is a 3.1.2 jailbreak for all devices: iphone 2g, iphone 3g, iphone 3gs, ipodtouch 1, 2, 3. It’s pretty easy. You just load the app and click the “make it ra1n” button and follow the prompts. Unfortunately, the ipod 3 is tethered which means if you reboot you have to run blackra1n again.

This is also a jailbreak only. There is no hacktivation or unlock. If you have updated in itunes to 3.1.2 or have an out of box 3.1 iPhone 3g / 3gs, you cannot unlock due to the new baseband, you can only jailbreak. If you have a 3g / 3gs running an older iPhone software and want to update and unlock, wait for pwnage type exploit that lets you update without updating the baseband.

From geohot: So, what is blackra1n? blackra1n is a 30 second ALL device 3.1.2 jailbreak. Even the ipt3, but the ipt3 is tethered. In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n.

There are a few things to note.

- blackra1n does not hactivate your iPhone (fake activate it). So, in order to use this jailbreak you will need to have an iPhone on an official carrier.

- 3G and 3GS unlockers “do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings.”

- blackra1n does jailbreak the third generation iPod touch however, it is a tether jailbreak. ” In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n.”

- blackra1n should work on devices using firmware 3.0 and up.

Instead of don't flash the new 3GS - Put 3GS WILL NOT WORK WITH 3G/ or any other models because of different processor (the newer one is written for ARM11 or something whereas ours is ARM9)

to the ppl who already JB-ed their phone, did you try the A2DP function?

i tried connecting my Philips SHB-7102 to my iphone and it connects, but everytime i play a song, the sound comes out from the phone speaker instead of the headphones.

the play/pause button on my headphones works, only i can't get any sound to come out of it

guys, problem still same...

i try to run redsnow in administrator mode, did everything as said... still no luck and stuck at "WATING FOR REBOOT" screen !

btw, im running Vista X64

it is said that redsn0w somehow not compatile with vista, please try to use xp and see how it goes. many have reported that they have some issue from vista.

hey guy, i face some problem on tunnel the iphone. i was download and open SSH but still cant manage to login access the iphone root file using iphone tunnel suite.
i had try iphone 2G with firmware 2.1 , can access. Issit OS3.0 access method is different ?

i did backup few application on my hard disk

the problem is now when i wanna install back the appz/gamez

it doesnt install, i guess wrong firmware....

so am i suppose to download those appz/gamez from version 3.0 ? those 2.2 appz/gamez canot be use?

If You want to SSH from your laptop to your iPhone using wifi..
Try to download MobileTerminal to your iPhone. Then retry..

well also make sure the pc that u r trying to to use to SSH to your iphone is wired to your router. I found out that if the pc is on wifi cannot connect..

I know this. My iphone have MobileTerminal.
I do SSH thru cable with laptop before on 2.2.1, it is worked,
I dono why it cant connect on OS3.0.
Anyone there have this kind of problem?

Correction: 3G[S] 's application processor is based on ARM Cortex A8.

Mine works fine. Instead, using wifi connection to ssh to my iphone. Both laptop and my iphone is in the same network.
