imho it really depends on your boss. screw your seniors or your colleagues. after all it is your boss who is going to appraise you at the end of the day. if your boss is alright with what you are wearing, i think that is fine.

i myself won't mind if my staffs are wearing better than me but the minimum requirement is on par with me, nothing less. i can see that they are using lv and gucci but that doesn't bother me. in fact i am just glad that i am able to provide them more than what they want, not just job security. and with happy and satisfied staffs, they will show loyalty and work harder to achieve a greater height.

QUOTE(lanatir @ May 18 2009, 01:36 AM)
it's all about wearing the right things for the right time. i have been wearing them for several years and i think they're alright as long as u groom well and carry yourself well with your clothes. but of course it must suit the occasion and environment...

actually now i have stopped wearing them due to the fact that i don't wear ties at work anymore. so i've switched to single cuffs and though i can still wearing links on them, imho, i think it's a bit scruffy to wear them without ties during work. i'm currently in a managerial position having delved into the working world for more than a decade fyi. the funny thing is, the higher up i go, and the more people i meet higher up, more often than not, they tend to be more understated (not that their clothing is of any lesser quality).

e.g. those blue blue shirts with white collars and cuffs - i have not met (personally) any CEO or chairman wearing this type of shirt (we are talking about malaysia ya). the irony of it is that i see more of younger guys who want to make an impression wearing something striking at work.

as for clubs - i think u can wear anything u damn well please as long as u're comfy and don't sweat like a pig.

on the subject of blue blue shirts with white collars and cuffs, what do you guys think of them (contrast collared/cuffs shirts), especially on guys that wear them? do you think its too striking (esp if the shirt is dark-colored/with patterns/lines) or makes a guy stand out too much esp if he wears the french cuff-type shirt? any of u wear this type of shirt often? do you think this type of shirt is only for men who are confident and want to look "powerful"? do you think its ok for men to wear this on a daily basis if they wanted to?

The idea back then was collar and cuffs were removable in the first place. and hence the white color. These days, one shouldn't feel powerful or prominent while wearing it as most ah bengs were already picking up this style. It has been overly done for sure.

If I'm in the States or Britain, I would gladly wear the aforementioned shirts with pride. In Malaysia, I would probably wear them with a suit to lessen the impact of contrasting cuffs and collar since Malaysians tend to verbally poke people who are dressed up even a little.

are you asking on a fashion sense or working etiquette?

fashion sense if ur fabolous .. why bother what ppl say? lol dont make sense to me.

if working etiquette then you have to weigh it on your own. you work with a small gas chinaman and u were so nice sure he tulan u and will freeze u in the company. even if he is a foreigner and he has shit dress sense and small gas too thats it bro. i think you friend is just being on the cautious side as u just so fresh wanna show off liaw.

as most said b4 this is a judgement call. like one said ur boss wira and u drive beemer come lol .. you asking for it.

ur dealing with people and not an exam wink.gif .. subjective answers. good luck in wearing ur cufflinks. wish to start wearing cufflinks too wink.gif

Fiddlesticks. Like undergarments, braces are originally not meant to be seen. The sight of the guy from The Apprentice last time who always flashes his braces made my eyes sore.

whoopa, it is not showing off. that is why. i don't know whether you think that its showing off, but cufflinks, as mentioned earlier is just an accessory. gah. of course we confine to social norms and working culture but the mindset should be removed that cufflinks are luxury items or status symbols.

even managers or bosses shouldn't be so bloody conservative to think that cufflinks would insult them in their position. it's so retarded. malaysia people. GAH. tongue.gif

why would people of all brands make cufflink shirts - from low end to high end when there is an unwritten rule that ppl buy cufflink shirts to show off? beats the purpose isn't it?

ks everywhere, especially if you are writing something or typing. Of course this would depend on the cufflink and shirt. But in general, it's restrictive.

Personally, I used to wear alot of cufflinks during college days.

im also using cuff link when it comes to formal occasion in my campus laugh.gif

excellent thread related to this issue.

i like this quote - "would you rather have a bunch of internet guys agree with you and most people you meet in everyday real life not like what you're wearing?"
