QUOTE(tarvalslain87 @ May 28 2010, 05:47 PM) Im not a hardcore gamer and I do have a core i7 desktop with gtx260 which can play most of the current games with high settings... Just that some light gaming on the Mac would be enough for me... @dvlz & feins Yea Im also quite paranoid with water cooling system for my PC... Always have the feeling that someday it will shoot water all over my PC and blow it up.. LOL Water cooling is not so scarry actually. I'm been with water cooling for nearly 10 years already but it only need some maintenence that's all. I always love mac os. Only some super nice app for windows like Tmpgenc n foobar never got an alternative for mac.

guys, i'm planning to upgrade my MacBook 2.16GHz's RAM from 2GB to 3GB.
question, is it okay for me to use two different RAM brands? (value RAM only) I've searched the forum but seems like not many people are doing that.

For DDR2 ram there is no issue upgrading with value ram. Only for DDR3 Version u recomended to go for apple certified ram. I use Kingston value on my MBW 2.4. No issue after using for over 2 years.

FYI, my machine can only support 3GB max. anything more than that will be wasted except for the dual-channel thingy but from wat I understand it won't affect the performance much. Furthermore, some users faced problem with KVR according to this thread (eg. kernel panic) I'm currently on 1GB+1GB so I just need to get a 2GB then can dy. Or maybe I should just forget about it, tahan a bit longer then get a new comp? This post has been edited by Kim^.^": Jun 11 2010, 01:02 AM

As like i said i've been using KVA 4gb kit since day one and face no problem until now for the MBW 2008 and 2007. but we found out quite number of user on MB 2009 version face alot of problem especially on the DDR3 version. So that's y i mention its recommended to go for Apple Certified RAM if ur on DDR3 but its not a must depend on ur luck sometime. Well also now DDR2 2GB is about RM160 per piece so u might wan to try one just head down to Lowyat and hunt around.

I would rather spend a lil extra for the peace of mind. second hand RAM will do for me since it's cheaper and still got lifetime warranty mah. hope u don't take any offence coz I see that u sell Kingston RAMs bumping my question, is it okay for me to use two different brands of RAM for my MacBook? This post has been edited by Kim^.^": Jun 11 2010, 12:52 PM

technically it's okay. not recommended, but then running 2+1 is also not recommended u might be able to run 4gb though, even though apple said 3gb is the limit http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/apple-not...am-upgrade.htmlThis post has been edited by dvlzplayground: Jun 11 2010, 01:08 PM

I have a feeling yours is the same macbook im using, well the amcbook white late 06 can take up to 3GB max with no issues, dont have to worry about the dual channel thingy, i have run Adobe Design Premium with no issues with some aperture here and there. check here http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Crucial-2GB-2x1GB-...d7#ht_952wt_884

2gb ram should be around rm170 for both ddr2-800 and ddr3-1066. which MBP are u referring to? make sure u get the right one. if possible, go for corsair or mushkin, instead of kingston.
about the 1TB hdd, bear in mind u have to get the 9.5mm version. WD and toshiba ones are 12.5mm. i dont know where to find 9.5mm version (not sure if it's available or not), n also dunno the price. 1tb WD 12.5" is around rm580
