I am using DDR2 Mac Pro in 2008, Not Nahelem

A little confusion here.... You mentioned early 2009 Mac Pro, so wei have to post a Barefeat RAM reference for DDR3...

Anyway, do you actually require that much amount of RAM....? blink.gif

Else just stick the 4x4GB on an A1-A2, B1-B2 quad-channel configuration. If you need more than 16GB, get another matching pair of 2GB and slot it together with the existing 2GB modules on A3-A4, B3-B4 configuration... That gives you a whopping 24GB RAM... brows.gif

If you google around, you get plenty of information regarding FB-DIMM arrangements on pre-Nehalem MPs. I've even read that performance on memory bandwidth ain't good for 2- and 6-module configurations.

PS: That's tray A and B... tongue.gif

http://www.corsair.com/products/gaming_memory/default.aspx

From the above link, it states DDR2-800....

Your 17" non-Unibody MBP at the very latest, supports only 667MHz mem speed. So in a way, if it works, then your mem speed will be underclocked to 667MHz, providing if it doesn't kernel panic, nor at it's worst, damage your logic board. Either way, to find out if it works, you can either risk testing it, or consult Corsair to find out if it's designed also to work on a Mac (which I think Corsair themselves wouldn't provide an accurate answer)...

Eh... another question for Eithanius/xaw5126,

Is there such a convertor to convert my FW400 to enable it to use with my FW800 port?!  The new MBPs don't come with a FW400 port sad.gif  And how much is that gonna cost me?!
*
SonnetTech has one FW800 to FW400 converter that I've seen... price should hover around RM 100, or maybe less...

@Eithanius,
Is it any good?! And, any recommendations for a USB hub?!
*
Should be ok... I might plan to get one for my external iSight which uses FW400...

Any USB hub should do fine. Preferably the ones with dedicated power supply, in case you need to plug onto USB-powered devices....

i have a newbie question. Does the imac use a lot of electricity?
*
It depends on which model you have... Core i5 and i7 use considerably more power than C2D siblings... so as those with custom ATI 4850 GC...

The current models have continuous max power rating of 241W and 365W for 21.5" and 27" respectively, so that should give you some idea, but it's usually way below that since you're not loading both CPU and GPU 24/7... Previous generation iMacs are around 180W if I'm not too mistaken...

mmm i have the 27" imac and my electricity bill shoot up RM100 for this month. So i was wondering whether this is being cause by my imac.
*
You've just got the iMac recently...? And you do a lot of heavy stuff on your iMac...?

When I first got my Mac Pro running at a constant 360W, my bill shot up RM 100...

However, I did read of complains in recent months about power bill shot up considerably, even though they don't use Macs... tongue.gif

My March bill shot up from RM 500+ to over RM 750 for no apparent reason... At first I though my GTX 260 I was using on my MP drew too much power, despite the idling CPU usage. This month it hovers around RM 600 when I got rid of the card in favour of HD 5850... rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

not here yet, but not really sure if it's gonna make it here...

just like the western digital 2.5" 750gb... wanted to get one as external, but here in this country, it maxes out only at 640gb... can't find 750gb scorpio blue in the local market... doh.gif

that's probably the best choice for 500gb smile.gif

anyway guys, i found out that OWC is claiming that 12.5mm drivers will work on all unibody MBPs. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Western%20Digital/WD10TPVT/

so is it safe enough to serve as a confirmation?
*
why 1TB that's even slower than 5400rpm for a startup drive...? You can get a 500GB 7200rpm drive as startup and get a 1TB as external for storage...

what's the selling price for this hdd?
uk is selling for £67 @ amazon for 500GB

Is it that cheap...? hmm.gif I don't think so...

Not on sale yet in Malaysia, but I expect no lesser than RM 500... US retailers selling then for as low as $130...

QUOTE(hapa @ Jun 14 2010, 11:15 AM)
thx dude.. but unfortunately, replies seem not all ppl like the hybrid.
how can we justify the price of it? i assume it the price should be much more expansive than HDD and with smaller capacity oso.

dude, you should do a lot more reading on this...

hey all, just here to ask again biggrin.gif
i'm now using my imac (mid2007)
the specs is intel core 2 duo 2.4ghz, ati radeon 2600 HD pro 256mb main memory, 4gb ram, 320gb hd...
the question is, who win in the benchmark score between NVIDIA's GeForce 9400M 256MB shared memory vs my ATI RADEON HD PRO 256 main memory?

it is because, just asking before upgrade to new imac biggrin.gif
the new spec is 2.66ghz c2d, and the graphic card is nvidia 9400m (2009 version)
is the comparison between my imac and the 2009 imac is too far?

hope u all can make me feel better..

u can use any hdd that's 9.5mm thick. currently the largest capacity is 750gb, but really hard to find. 500gb can find anywhere, and i recommend hitachi since me n a few other forumers didnt get good performance out of the WD scorpio blue
*
I assume you mean Hitachi 5K500...? If it's Hitachi 7K500, you'll be comparing apple and orange, as the latter is a 7,200rpm drive, while Scorpio Blue is only 5,400rpm...

While WD only topped 320GB for Scorpio Black (7,200rpm), they've just launched the 500GB model, enough to compete with Hitachi's 7K500 and Seagate's Momentus 7200.4...
