Hi guys

Any issue if upgrade my 1st Gen intel iMac from Tiger to Leopard OSX?,  is it suitable for my current spec, (intel Core Duo 1.83ghz, Ati Mobility Redeon X1600, 2GB RAM)?.

What about driver with my current hardware, already include in Leopard?, any discount for this upgrade or i need to buy with new price.

Or if i buy Leopard retail disc, is it ok?  http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/929716
*
You use Xp and upgrade to Vista also no discount wat, since when anyone give discount one shakehead.gif ? Just get the retail disc, should be 499 and duh of course all the drivers are already provided by Apple, even if you are on selected popwerpc compatible macs doh.gif

hi guys,

wondering if you could help a noobie here regarding RAM. i'm planning to upgrade the ram of my mbp 2.5ghz(early 2008) from 1gb to 2gb each...

1. i have to find 2 gb DDR2-667 SDRAM right? or what would you guys recommend?

2. what brand should i buy, kingston, mushkin or corsair or any other brand?

3. i do a lot of photo editing, video....so is 4 gb(2 gb each) enough or i should find 6 gb(3gb each)?

4. can you tell me which shop in LYP that can give me a good price and good service?

Tq in advance.
*
1 dude your mac can only support DDR2 667 cannot put any other specification

2 any brand would do,even kingston value rams

3 theres no such thing as a 3GB memory module its 1,2 and 4Gb,go with the 2x2GB configuration.

4 again just get the ram and DIY,can get the manual from ifixit or apple.com,easy.

my Dear Apple friends

i have a Asus F81se with 4 GB ram, i would like to exchange it to my macbook white 2GB (mid 2009 ver). am i allow to do that.. ?? will it work?
*
DDR2 667 MHz SDRAM, 2 x SODIMM socket for expansion up to 4GB SDRAM <- is the spec of the asus

DDR2 667 Mhz, SDRAM, <- is the spec for macbook white, doesnt matter which year make or model its the same.

one question,

i noticed a few seller is selling ACPP cheaply in garage sales, how legit are those seller ?

the only thing im afraid that once activated then down the road let say a year later apple disable it because of fraud or anything like.
*
make sure they sell it with the box, sometimes they just sell serials especially ebay who are actually using keygen and these sometimes get deactivated by apple.

Apple issues fix for slow SATA speeds on new MacBook Pros

In one of its quicker turnarounds, Apple has released a firmware update for its mid-2009 MacBook Pro lineup that addresses Serial ATA speeds that were unintentionally cut in half.

MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.7 (3.4MB) mends a problem with the just-refreshed notebook line which effectively downgraded their SATA II drive interfaces to the original SATA specification.

The difference didn't affect the performance of traditional platter-based hard drives, which are rarely fast enough to tax the 1.5 gigabits per second the original SATA spec allows, but has been a thorn in the side for those hoping to use solid-state drives, or SSDs. Recent buyers in Apple's support discussions and elsewhere have noticed that faster aftermarket SSDs installed in their systems have been artificially capped at the older standard's speed. Earlier unibody MacBook Pros already support the full 3 gigabits per second maximum of SATA II, revealing the limit to be a bug rather than a conscious choice.

Installing the firmware requires a 13-, 15- or 17-inch MacBook Pro running at least Mac OS X 10.5.7. As the extra speed can only be seen by drives that Apple itself doesn't use, the Mac maker warns that it can't provide official support for disks that take advantage of the EFI patch.

yes people the mid 2009 MBPs now have a sata speed of 3.0GBs.

hey guys, im planning to get an external hard drive to store my stuff and also to use for time machine.. i stumbled upon this WD hard drive and it states that it is "formatted for Mac".. what exactly does that mean? what's the difference compared to others which also work with Macs but are not "formatted for Mac"?

http://store.westerndigital.com/store/wdus.../catid.13093000
*
it basically means that its already been formatted for you as HFS+ format, which is a native mac format. Other HDDs come naturally as Fat or ntfs formatted which can be changed using disk utility/erase function that lets you format the whole disk to HFS+,FAT . Its just a means to charge more to the unknowing souls.

Mac : MBP CD 15" 2.0

problem : left fan dead

how to solve the problem instead replace the new one?
*
you can do voodoo and try to revive the fan from the dead, on a serious note bring the mac to a the nearest apple service center for a replacement of the fan, theres no other way.

i see... once my Mac Mini comes, I'll insert my new HDD into it straight away. So I'll just pop in the DVD and install the OS on the new HDD ya?
Hmm... interesting... but I'm gonna ditch the 120GB that comes with my Mac and insert the new HDD I got so I should be doing what I mentioned up there right?
*
just keep it around just in case? cause if anything goes wrong you can swap the old HDD bak in place since i persume you still have applecare?

LOL, it seems like the same/similar supplier is doing that everywhere around. I had a client whom affected too. They're being charged premium price for Value RAM.

Things about RAM is the manufacturer change the chip supplier time to time. Even the same brand that been tested to work will yield a different result because the chips are different. Apple only uses a few OEM supplier for their RAM. The best if you could get the same chip/manufacturer. Cause apple is using them also mar wink.gif

btw, i've gotta thank you for the link...
got myself a pair of Crucial rams for my 13" MBP. 4GB of RAM definitely made things smoother now since the stuff i run hogs memory quite a bit; parallels with winxp, aperture, adobe photoshop, premiere pro etc.

First time i put it in, it beeped, restarted and repeated. Won't display anything. Put back the original apple (which had hynix chips), still works fine. Put in the Crucial sticks again and it worked. Odd, but I've been using it for almost 2 weeks, no problems.
*
no problem brother just pass the link around to those in need, that guy has the cheapest price for crucial. anyways regarding the beeps,it'll go off once you replace with hynix and put the crucial back in. Its the same solution my tech guy told me to do smile.gif
