err... i think for the heat of rams, it depends on the build of the ram itself. hotter feeling on the outside doesn't means the rams isn't good. it might be caused by a good heat dissipation, rite? btw, as long as it's in the range of operating temp, there's nothing to worry....

hi, i m new here. Wanna ask all the sifus for advise.

I have an old Macbook Pro 15" Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16Ghz. Everything original with 1GB RAM.
I wanna increase the RAM. But according to my research, my MBP can only support up to 3GB.

So my question is do i just get a 2GB to upgrade to 3GB. Will this affect the performance?
According to "jinaun old post: it will work fine.. but your mbp may take some performance hit as the after the 1gb boundry of ur 2GB stick will onli work at single channel"

Or should i get 2x 2GB RAM. But i will lose 1GB RAM.

Appreciate your advise.

cheers

From the link i provided:

QUOTE
Standard RAM: 1.0 GB
Maximum RAM: 3.0 GB*

Details: 1.0 GB installed as a single module. One slot free.

*Apple officially supports a maximum of 3 GB of RAM but third-parties have been able to upgrade the system to 4 GB of RAM using two 2 GB memory modules with some limitations.

if you have budget, get KTA, which approved by Apple.

But i dont have budget, therefore i am using KVR and running without problem since last Friday.

so what do you recommend?
buy 2 x 2GB RAM

or

buy 1 x 2GB RAM.

how much did you get the RAM for? What brand and where?

My 2 cents opinion:

based on my understanding, since your mbp unable to utilize full 4GB, just get 1 x 2GB to add on to your existing 1GB. (total of 3GB)

I got my Kingston KVR 2 x 2GB DDR3 1066MHz, 2nd hand from one of the forumer in LYN, RM200 only smile.gif

Better match the RAM model that you are using now to prevent complication in future smile.gif

For the place, I have compared the price list that i collected from Lowyat last 2 weeks, looks like StarTec is giving the best deal:

QUOTE
Below price list i got from StarTec in Lowyat Plaza last weekend (20 Sep 09) and so far their price is the lowest compare to other stores:

DDR3 1066MHz SODIMM:

Kingston KVR - RM145
Corsair - RM140
Kingmax - RM140
Mushkin - RM138

You should not open a new topic to ask a question.

Anyway, to answer your question.
Yes it does. SSD are 2.5" in size. Same size as your current HDD. smile.gif

I believe your MBP uses a SATA connector which is pretty much what SSDs use. You might want to do a fair bit of research before jumping into SSD, as some have issues.

A good SSD would the the Intel X25M or the OCZ Vertex Series.

his is only DDR2 667MHz, and he has to get 2+1 DDR2 667Modules because by default the MBP comes with 512MB+512MB DDr2 667MHz modules, theres only 2 slots inside.
