I bought Mushkin 977033A Apple certified - 8GB 1600MHZ for my mbp around rm205 if not mistaken from lingloong, thats was last year price anyway
*
1600MHz...? how to compare like that....? mine super old ram running at 1066MHz...? Apple even had 2 revisions of MBPs running on 1333MHz. That shows how far memory prices have dropped... 2 years ago it's RM 500 per stick of 4GB, now at that same price could probably get you 2 sticks of 8GB...

Current:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011)
2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
320GB HDD

Plan:
Mixed Drive Setup
Main Bay >>>> SSD Sata 3
Optical Bay >>>> move my current 320GB here
16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Is there any problem/issue with my plan?
I plan to do a clean install of OS in SSD, but remain my data files in HDD. After i install OS, how can i delete OS in HDD without delete the data files in it?

I've been told by Machines service centre, that my MBP 13 2011 was sluggish due to my previous 8GB DDR3 Kingston RAM were not that suitable. I was wondering how far is true? Because in fact, it were very sluggish whenever I reboot the machine.

Unless u use normal. KVA ram. Use KTA ram won't be an issue as its apple certified ram.

Hi guys,

I'm currently using iMac 21.5 inch Mid 2011 model, running 2.5 Ghz i5 and 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3

I want to upgrade the RAM. Is it possible, and how to do it? how big can I upgrade it to? and what are the price of these RAMs?

Thanks

you can go upto 32GB
your iMac has 4 slots, each capable of supporting 8GB
the RAM slot is actually just below your iMac.
you will see a slot with 2 screws, open it and you can easily change the RAM

Ok thank you. Which RAM should I go for, and how much will it cost each, for example, for 8GB a piece

you meant to leave the files in 320GB hdd and clean install your OS in SSD... as long as you don't erase or partition your 320GB... .the files will remain there...

clean install means a clean wipe and reinstalling everything from scratch again...you have to backup your SSD drive...

KVR sits under RM150 depending on where you buy for a piece of 8GB nowadays... it is basically the same memory but kingston claims they certify it for apple machines...i believe, the service centers also would not kacau so much if the machine is sent in with KTA memory installed...

http://list.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/List.as...d=&PriceUBound=

it's more money... but buys you peace of mind... i have a lot of friends who goes for KVR because it is almost half the price at it's lowest compared to KTA and they have no issues...

KVR = Kingston Value Ram (standard available RAM that supports almost all notebooks in market)
KTA = Kingston Technology Apple (officially supports Apple notebooks with Apple certification)

Best way is to bring your Mac to the shop, test run to ensure it is working well before leaving / paying. That's what I did when I upgraded the RAM on my 2009 MBP previously.

My 2 cents. biggrin.gif

Bump for older upgrade life thread.

Hope your can recycle to used your old age Mac products.

MBP or MBA or iMac, Mac Pro made from year 2000 all are the great stuff.

For example upgrade ram or SSD nowadays has more affordable price to grab yours today.

Recent Retina MacBook Pro are great and fast speed, but ram are built on board, the only chance to upgrade on storage drive these is not cheap today.

You can find in eBay or amazon or OWC and ifixit.com

For example like playing games you can decide for MacBook Pro unibody these is still great products today.

How bout you smile.gif
