What's Apple Malaysia's policy for dead pixels on the LCD.

Mine only has one that's distracting me!

Bright pixels: 4 or more.
Dark pixels: 6 or more.
Combination: 8 or more.

Depends on model.

Hook it up to an external monitor, got anything? Maybe just your LCD problem.

How to connect to other monitor? Sorry for the noob question. If logic board problem, normally how much it will cost? I heard it's really expensive. Sigh...

I think for your MBP, you need MiniDVI-to-VGA or DVI adaptor. Check what port you have on your MBP first then get the correct adaptor.

If it's logic board then 1k plus I think.

Late 2007 have full size DVI port. Just plug a DVI cable in or DVI - VGA adapter.

Thanks for the correction, wei.

@allanshah: you can ask wei for a quote on repairs, he's the in-house Mac guy.

buying the adapter would be quite expensive. maybe u can try ask around for anyone who has it (doesnt have to be apple branded). i can let u borrow mine but im in miri lol. also we still dunno if it's ur logic board problem or just LCD problem. best case, maybe just the LCD connector loose/dirty. u can go to ifixit.com and look up how to reconnect it.

if u can use an external monitor, meaning it's just ur LCD problem and repairing shud be less than 1k. but TBH im leaning towards faulty LCD lah, cuz if faulty logic board normally dont even have the boot chime.

At least if you can boot up with external monitor, then feel better that it's not the logic board. Even if you decide not to repair the LCD, you can still use it with an external LCD but not portable anymore lah. If your LCD image sometimes got, sometimes don't have, it might just be the inverter for the LCD which will quite cheap to replace. Or just a loose cable inside.

sounds like LCD connection issue. hook it into external monitor and see how it goes.

speaking of external monitors, i tried connecting my mbp 2009 to my sony bravia 40" with a generic mini displayport-hdmi adapter and hdmi cable but nothing shows up on my tv. do u guys have any idea why ? the minute i plug in the cable my mbp blinks once with a blue screen and then nothing happens after that. I'm contemplating buying the adapter and cable from apple cause they cause like 5 times more than the one i got from ebay.

Did you switch your TV to HDMI (PC) input? Some TV need to manually switch that over to get it working.

Also, try to plugin the TV and restart your Mac.

Alternatively, after plugin the TV switch to different resolution on your Mac. Also turn off mirroring.

I've done the bolded part. I'll try ur first recommendation later and see how it works out although as of now i have no idea on how to do it, it should be in the manual right ? hmm.gif

EDIT: I've been playing around with the remote control and can't seem to find the "switch tv to hdmi input" option. ive tried hooking up my msi laptop and it works fine. no tinkering needed or whatsoever. am i just missing out or something ? looks like its very likely that i'll have to fork out some money to get the belkin or moshi adapter from Apple. sweat.gif

In that case you have to try other adapter.
If possible just bring your Mac to somewhere else and test the adapter on other TV.

telefunken, what brand is your DP-HDMI adaptor? If it is a prob with the adaptor, it will be good for other forumers to know to avoid.

guys my macbook pro [snow leopard] can boot up but really takes a long time, then it hangs after the dock has appeared.

i can move my mouse, but my wallpaper wont load, the dock would react to my mouse, but the finder wont open.

therefore my mac is unusable. is it hardware or software issue?
