bizen, moist suppose is not the main reason it die. I keep all my VFT with water tray and direct sunlight from 9am till 2pm. They may go for dormancy if critical change of wheather.

Really!?!? The place where I put is shady areas. It will only get alot of sunlight during morning and abit of sunlight in the afternoon since it is shady. Maybe lack of sunlight?

I bought it for RM 40++ and it didnt even last for a month. The lady from d nursery actually told me not to give it sunlight and not so much water as it may destroy the roots?! Gosh.. Im so devastated cuz I love it very much.. esp the VFT... so TS can distribute some to us?! Hehehe! tongue.gif

Use CP to get rid of insects is not a good idea… Because, CP will attracted insect to them and eat them… You MAY end up with more insect. toda6866, yours insect may decrease because it is eaten by CP and you will still constantly get some insect in yours garden.

How I wish my place have so many insect for my CPs…. 

I purposely put some fruit nearby my CPs to attract more fruit flies.

Sound like the place suppose is ok. Even the plant may not do that well but, I don’t think that is the reason why it dies. Yours previous VFT’s media is always wet?

RM40++, where you got it and what it is? It is a cephalotus? If cephalotus, yes, it dont like too many water and prefer cool place to grow well, especially their root need cool temperature... it is not a easy take care plant....

Drosera
Drosera, also know as sundew. They hate any insect that stand on top of their body. That’s why they produce sticky dew at their leaf to glue insect!!!! Then digest it!!!! Some drosera’s leaf may bend towards their food. And some even show the movement within an hour!!!

For me, personally, I try not to lets rain hit my sundew (especially those rare and sp. that I just have 1 or 2). Because, sundew will need energy to produce those dews. And it will weaker the plant. But, some hard sundew can explore to rain, like D. spatulata, D. intermedia, D. paradoxa.

There are many types of drosera and hybrid. From those laying flat at media, leaf will grow upward, the whole plant grow tall, size from 5cent to 10cm wide… Some of them will go for dormancy, but, I found that, we can leave it and don’t worry about it. They will wake up from dormancy after sometime.

To grow them using water tray methods as well, water level is from ¼ to 1/3 of yours CP pot. Most of drosera like direct sunlight.

Nice plants you got there casey. I'm interested with sundews, are there any that are suitable for indoor with not much sunlight?

Can provide some guide on how to keep them? Maybe best location that might carry such plants?

To keep it indoor, most of CP is not suitable. If you still wan to do so, you still can keep it by provide them suitable light. Light that use for water plant is suitable for them. But, not dare to confirm how many watts you need to make yours plants grow well. Because I didn’t grow it indoor yet. For a 2ft tank with a 36W PLL suppose is sufficient for yours plant grow well. You still need to try it then, you will know.

Where to get drosera… emmm… I have extra D. intermedia ‘cuba’ and D. binata if you are interested, probably will have D. paradoxa. Beside that, you can try http://forum.petpitcher.com, buy and sell section. That forum admin by Malaysian and you can find many Malaysian CPer in there. Beside that, you may consider import seeds from oversea. But, for CPs, their growing rate is really slow. For drosera, it need around 5~6 months to reach adult size. VFT even slower!!!! It needs 1.5 years to reach matured. So far, the slowest is Sarrasenia seeds that I first try, it takes me 6months and just 1cm tall!!!! PENING… Just started to feed those sarra plantlet with bloodworm juice and hope it will grow faster.

For the pitcher plant. May I know did you keep it at shaded place? That is most people thought, even nurseries tell the same thing. Most of them normally need 50% shade place. Some of nepenthes even can tolerance with direct sun light, but, their leaf may have orange/brown color patches that it didn’t harm the plant. Im still learning how to keep nepenthes, I just started, especially those small size and look nice and most important  cheap. wink.gif

Last few pics is sarrasenia. They need strong light and a lot of water. Below is introduction on it. Every Saturday and Sunday, you can swing in to Subang Parade flea market, there is a store opened by Fauzi that selling CPs fulltime. Here is his website. http://www.dapat.net/moblog.aspx?member=4ZEPLANT

because i think some of them protected and endemic here..if u wan to sell it,especially to foreigners, better be careful and better not(i hate to sell something endemic and native here to foreigners).but this is what i like with hobbyist, sometimes we contribute on conserving them by keeping them and 'breed' them.if i am conservationist, one of the strategy to save some endangered species is to attract the interest of hobbyist.so plant can be conserve and produced more until it no longer become endangered.for example,Alocasia melo, not carnivorous plant, but one time become endangered because of habitat destruction(logging in borneo).but fortunately this plant has really unique look, some scientist decide to bring it as ornamental plant..from a few plant available in herbarium,it become a lot and u can even find them in ace hardware sometimes,ha3. this is what wildlife department duwan to see..LOL.. laugh.gif

Casey, could you tell me whats the best substrate to use to keep them? I got my wild Nepenthes . sp(M) which I planted it on peat moss and it doesn't seem to do well with it. I keep it outdoors and water it daily. Any ideas?
