QUOTE(slackerz) because i think some of them protected and endemic here..if u wan to sell it,especially to foreigners, better be careful,he3.but this is what i like with hobbyist, sometimes we contribute on conserving them by keeping them and 'breed' them.if i am conservationist, one of the strategy to save some endangered species is to attract the interest of hobbyist.so plant can be conserve and produced more until it no longer become endangered.for example,Alocasia melo, not carnivorous plant, but one time become endabgered because of habitat destruction(logging in borneo).but fortunately this plant has really unique look, some scientist decide to bring it as ornamental plant..from a few plant available in herbarium,it become a lot and u can even find them in ace hardware sometimes,ha3. this is what wildlife department duwan to see..LOL.. QUOTE( leetplayer) Casey, could you tell me whats the best substrate to use to keep them? I got my wild Nepenthes . sp(M) which I planted it on peat moss and it doesn't seem to do well with it. Im not really 100% sure which is the best. But, I didn’t hear that use peat moss to keep it. So far, media that normally use are sphagnum moss, or coconut chips. Some nepenthes even growing nice in burnt soil. The plant produce pitcher? Personally as a nep newbie, if my plant produce pitcher in each leaf, I will very happy liao… Did you fertilizing yours plant? Where you keep it? Most of nepenthes like 50% shade environment place. Some sp. is not a easy plant. QUOTE(empty_reg) Sounds like tough plant for a beginner like me. Maybe I'll search for something more suitable and come back for your advice. Thanks alot, for saving a plant from dying under my care. Haha.. QUOTE(s98432512) nice vft You have VFT as well!!!! You grow them from seeds? How big are those plants? What is VFT RG? Where you got yours plant? I’m looking for sp. that I don’t have.here is one of mine since early this year LOL Added on April 15, 2009, 11:37 pm QUOTE(slackerz @ Apr 15 2009, 10:46 PM) Yea... they are nice and exotic, unique... QUOTE(caseyhoo @ Apr 2 2009, 06:06 AM) Use CP to get rid of insects is not a good idea… Because, CP will attracted insect to them and eat them… You MAY end up with more insect. toda6866, yours insect may decrease because it is eaten by CP and you will still constantly get some insect in yours garden. casey, How I wish my place have so many insect for my CPs…. I purposely put some fruit nearby my CPs to attract more fruit flies. i still like d idea of letting nature deal its cause. i hav lot of space around my garden so, got lots of plants n of coz, mosquitoes. Whenever i feed my rabbits, blardy mosquitoes all come sting me like vampires btw, my rabbits r kept in a shaded area, so i tot put those CPs at the shaded area beside my rabbit cage, of coz away from rabbits reach so they wont try 2 eat it... actually, im a bit worried oso will rabbits get bitten by d vampires.... so if i hav CPs, its a plus point since small animals are v super sensitive 2 smells so i cant use other ways of catching mosquitoes so comes back this question, which type of CP is a bit hardy n beginner's plant? n where do u get it.... thks This post has been edited by toda6866: Apr 16 2009, 04:21 PM |

Guys, anyone of you if you happen to grow Monkey Cup plants or NEPENTHES, a STRONG NOTE here. There are few varieties which attract tree shrew (or Squirrels, as many prefer to call it, although they are not true squirrels) to bite and tear on them, especially the RED ones!! Take no risk by putting them on the floor (hang the plants). I've already been declaring an all-out war on them ever since they mass-massacre the plant pitchers. All-out war = trapping them in cage traps and sending them off to another part of town.

IC… in order for yours pitchers to last longer, humidity is the most important. Low Humidity and winy place causing the pitcher dry faster.

But, it didn’t always flower lar… P. primuliflora and P. x sethos are easy take care plant. P. primuliflora need water tray. But P. x sethos don’t need. I have extra P. primuliflora, but not P. x sethos. btw, my rabbits r kept in a shaded area, so i tot put those CPs at the shaded area beside my rabbit cage, of coz away from rabbits reach so they wont try 2 eat it... actually, im a bit worried oso will rabbits get bitten by d vampires.... so if i hav CPs, its a plus point since small animals are v super sensitive 2 smells so i cant use other ways of catching mosquitoes http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c139/cas...es/IMG_1578.jpg Sometime you can found P. sethos at Sg. Buloh too… QUOTE(syarz) how do u feed dis plants?? or they eat by themselves?? nicela.. very interesting plant.... normally how much? Nepenthes, sarrasenia – fall into their pitcher and cannot go out Pinguicula, Sundew – sticky glue that will stick insect/fauna VFT – leaf that have trap attached to it, once the sensor is touch, the trap will close But, if you want yours plant grow faster/nicer. Feed lar… I normally feed it when im free. Price ar… emmm… Depends on sp. lor… from RM10~RM800. Depends on rarity. D. intermedia ‘cuba’ will cost RM15+-. Shark teeth VFT bigger then 50cent will cost rm15. Typical VFT with the same size will cost rm8. Sarrasenia from YG will cost rm20+. Nepenths will cost rm20+ as well. Some nice nepenthes, just 4inches, will cost rm30+ You can feed CPs with blood worm or death insect or live insect if you can catch any… then, put it on their trap. That’s all… QUOTE(funkychips) Guys, anyone of you if you happen to grow Monkey Cup plants, a STRONG NOTE here.
