Mods are strict in Apple Byte because it's a post count section. We were asked to be vigilant with people posting here and use the report button if necessary. Why are you asking PC upgrade questions in Apple Byte?
*
Because I was originally asking tarvalslain87 because he gave an idea to upgrade my pc instead of buying an iMac/macbook which is the reason why I posted here. Since the rules are THAT strict here, I might as well keep away from these forums ..

Anyway I already posted in the Recommendation Thread in Hardware Q&A. Satisfied?

Well obviously upgrading my current pc is a much cheaper way to go with, but many people say Macs run much more smoother than PCs .. so I can't really decide

If you want to use windows at least ditch vista as it's crappy stuff.
Set your mind on what you want and work towards that. Try not to let budget intimidate you. Yes might be the Mac starting price is abit hefty but it's achievable right? Try look and do abit of research in it. See what other casual users in video editing use for Mac. Set your mind and try to achieve that.
From the look of it is that you want some kind of upgrade to happen now (which PC upgrade is the obvious choice) but you have your heart on Mac. Follow your heart and you won't get heartbroken. Might take longer but at least you're well satisfied with what you have

You're right .. I was kinda focusing on computer speed more than the original thing : video editing . What I wanted out of a Mac is Final Cut Pro (of course, not the original tongue.gif) or iMovie.

Budget is not up to me to decide since i'm only 14 .. all depends on my dad.

Nvm take it slow and decide.... No point rushing into something that you would feel unhappy at last...

If you are budget constraint then you should ask here in the hackintosh thread... They will guide you for upgrading your PC..

Good luck =)

zemmien,

care to post what setup you have now? Then he can have more imagination about your current setup already doing it for you. If it's older model even better as it show the point that super doesn't mean great biggrin.gif

Fly,
I don't do any heavy editing but I have mbp 13 2.53 with all standard factory stuff (not BTO unit) and the speed still amazes me compared to my another new dell that have better specs.

Yes people choose Macs are due to its OS's stability/smoothness and speed. I chose Mac due to these reasons... Im happy with it as my MBP definitely impresses me but still lots to learn due to this is my first mac.

Ok, then that changes everything about my thoughts on upgrading my PC.

Will an iMac 21.5" 3.06ghz do good for SD (<480p) video editing?

Or any other suggestions? MBP? MB? Cheap and smooth-running is what I want tongue.gif

Like we suggested earlier, if you want portability go for the MBP else take the iMac as all of those uses combination of hardware and the Mac OSX and that is the reason for the smoothness and stability (Software and hardware are built to be compatible with each other). So it goes down to portability. But of course you need to consider RAM and Processor or maybe the screen resolution as you are doing video editing.

This is actually quite irritating. Cheap is good, but on the other hand, I need a good one that runs smoothly when I edit. Portability isn't really an issue here.

ahhh!!! feel like dying here .. reason is -

the 22" 3.06ghz core 2 duo 500gb hdd 4gbram w/ the same graphics card as the one I have now costs rm4.3k, while the 22" 3.06ghz core 2 duo 1tb hdd 4gbram w/ ati radeon hd 4670 256mb is an additional rm1000 to that..

The rm5299 one is very tempting, but just looking at the price I automatically know that my dad won't allow me to get that.

As for MBP, I don't see why the price is not reasonable for a laptop, but from 2.4ghz to 2.66ghz costing rm1000 is just ridiculous. I don't worry about display in this case, because my house got alot of unused lcd tv's/monitors tongue.gif

Whats the difference between MB and MBP? 2.26ghz --> 2.4ghz = additional rm300?

Ok here goes,
MB white cant utilize more than 8GB memory

MB white doesnt have an IR sensor if you wanted to use the Apple Remote

MB white doesnt have firewire if you wanted to transfer large files like video from a video cam.

MB white doesnt have backlit keyboard.

MB white will get dirty especially the bottom part and scratches here and there.

MB white doesnt have an external battery indicator.

MB white runs on an older Nvidia 9400 chip while the MBP runs on Nvidia 320, which is better by 80%.

MB white battery can last you 7hours while MBP is 10 hours.

MB white screen panel quality is lower than MBP, too blueish, cant do much to calibrate.

MB white doesnt have momentum scrolling.

MB white only comes with 2GB ram while MBP comes standard with 4GB.

Now you decide whether the extra RM300 is worth it or not, its clear why MBP is better.

I'm just wondering weather the new MBP 13.3"

# 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
# 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
# 250GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
# NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics

Is good enough to last like 3 years +???plan to bootcamp it so could play some games in window mode...could it handle games like starcraft 2 or diablo 3 in the future with the Processor or graphic in the MBP???

Because the different between MBP 13.3" and 15" is just graphic and processor...and the price range is totally lots of different around 2k...>.<...

The step up from Core 2 Duo to the Core i5 is a significant one. While you'll get better battery life with the 13", if you plan to play games the 15" is probably a better choice. As for Starcraft 2, you should be fine if you can play a game without max graphic settings. Blizzard games are also well known for their scalability. Diablo 3 is a long ways off, so it's very hard to speculate whether a 15" laptop can handle it.

Yes. In fact, Snow Leopard is more streamlined than previous OSX versions.
