My coach is a former Chinese national athlete.....and he's right now a coach in Malacca.
We discussed today, about the state of training in Malaysia. And thanks to a friend's suggestion to have a workshop, we thought since we're educated in this field, why not? We can dispel a lot of silly "Bro-science" with proven training science.

I just wanna see the response. Also how much would you pay for a 3 hour seminar + 1 hour Q/A. Refreshments provided.
I'm thinking since people are payin RM120/hour for personal trainers, we're just gauging how much can we charge.
It'll be 1-3. I'll attend to 3 lifters, my coach the other 3. I know nobody would be interested in me, so we plan to circle it around.

This will be our guinea pigs, so to speak. But of course we'll be planning everything and discussing with other trainers and coaches about how to run a good one first. This is all in planning stages, and will probably be at least till June before we can start it.

The only not so nice part, is can only be done in Melaka. I wish we could use the Bkt Jalil facility but the costs are RIDICULOUSLY high if we wanted to rent it for a day from the sports council. And the amount of strings I'd have to pull, will probably string to England.

If it's in Melaka....it'll be RM60-70 for gas and toll+fees

Also we'll only be taking 6 people at a time, because we cannot have too many. It'd be hard to focus on each person. This is a very rough draft...but we hope to make it happen.

Do tell us.

wow, its great that you take the effort to initiate this plan! its great to see such pro-activeness from you as a mod ^^

btw, ur coach is so small yet he can lift crazy numbers! its amazing what the human body can do.. and here i thought only ants can lift 10-20x their bodyweights (well, for your coach its like 4+ times) lol..

if i was a strength trainer id sign up man! but im more of a vain sod and go bb more for the ego booster criteria sad.gif what u guys are doing looks cool tho.. btw, by being strong in lifting, what can you apply for everyday stuff e.g can throw a baseball further, able to run faster or able to lift a car out of a longkang to help a blur damsel in distress ?

I would suggest that you do a small flyer in both mandarin + BM. There is a huge interest in the Malay community. You might tap into something big in Melaka.

I was formerly into the beauty aspect of lifting weights as well. Trust me, I've been there. 3x10 as the magic routine right? Supersets, dropsets, HIIT magic.....Max-OT, yeah, been there, done that. I actually know how about bodybuilding too. Just so you know, Chinese style training, is VERY VERY tracked along the bodybuilding ideas as well. It's more strength based, but muscle building is important too.

As for applicability to everyday life, I now grab a basketball rim despite not training for it. I have somehow beaten a friend of mine who I've NEVER beaten in 8 years of running against him since Std 3 - Form 5. It's simple. If you can exert power to force 200KG'S into the air, you can probably jump a lot higher than a person that can only power up 30KG into the air.

I don't READ or WRITE in Chinese. Orang baba la yang. Maybe get my coach to write. I don't get it, why the Malays are into strength, but the Chinese all nak badan cantik aja? Hang tak suko~

Do vote how much you guys'd pay. If it's good response, we'll bring in some other coaches from neighboring countries too to talk about other things.
We're thinking of maybe even getting our national weightlifting coach for the elite team, Coach Lin down. I'd bring Stefan Stefanov down too, but Bulgarian training isn't quite applicable to bodybuilding. And I'm not close to him.

Talk 1 hour first, about the basics that we need people to understand. Then 2 maybe even 3 hours of coaching. We won't limit the time actually. We really want people to go home, learning something new and spreading the right knowledge. It's not perfect business, but we'll always have new things to teach I'm sure. I've just got a new book too about psychology and sports. Gonna digest that and hopefully learn more.

Also, we'll try to get an average level of knowledge between trainees first. We don't want one advanced, one blur sotong. Cannot teach wan. Probably start with just blur sotongs so we can help them from being eaten by .....PT's.

Is this going to be a one-off thing or are you planning more if the first was a success? My grandma's in good ole Melaka and I plan to visit her sometime in May.

We all certainly know that WL is a sport that takes years to master which explains the very focused demographic. I believe this seminar only caters for either those who have the basics of WL or those who are "extraordinary" quick learners.

But once again, this is a good way to kick things off. Maybe you could have a series of an 8 week seminar with a break in between each week.

Oh it's definitely not going to be in May. We've to go to Penang for "Kejohanan Remaja"
It's going to be maybe in April the earliest. We'll plan more if the first is successful. nod.gif

And we're making the first one. F.O.C. Only thing is we need you guys and girls who would come, to write and video a testimonial of how it's helped you. biggrin.gif Fair deal right?

I plan to run the first one very soon......and it's going to be priced at RM0 per person+2 hours + 1 hour Q/A.

It's free because we feel it'd be a service to the community. And it'll be shorter lah.
Anyway, we're only taking in 5-10 people...so if you're interested, do drop your name.

It's going to be free only for five selected people. And at the moment nobody seems interested even though it's free.

I remembered my first meeting with Coach Wu. Coach Wu began weightlifting at age 10. Short in stature (1.60), but built like a tank, he couldn’t speak a word of english which meant I had to force myself to converse with him in Mandarin; a language I am absolutely terrible at. I felt even more awkward when I found out that Coach Wu was born in 1983; my age!

All that mattered naught soon after he took me under his wing. His training principles, methods, and approach to weightlifting were quite foreign but made complete sense. His explanation was clear, precise and straight to the point. His patience is admirable; he painstakingly explained every single error we had made and corrected them in detail. Coach Wu is definitely a role model for coaches. Honestly, the priceless knowledge gained from Coach Wu was so much more than I had expected. If I had to sum up my trip to Malacca with one word, it would be “Enlightening”.

This is a testimonial by a Singaporean national weightlifter. He's also the holder of the fastest time for a giant wheel flip in Singapore. He also competes in Strongman and pound-per-pound is the strongest man in Singapore.

He came an entire week to Malaysia just to train with my coach.

That's dedication. Where there's a will, there will be a way. We're furthermore giving this first course for free. I'm not sure where you can find such offers around the world. So it's up to you guys to think of a way. Take my word, it'll be worth it.

Any chance of inviting Coach Wu to visit our sunny shores to conduct an olympic weightlifting workshop/camp for us noobies? I am sure the lifting crew at SWF will be happy to support it.
