I have very dry eyes. have tried Oasys lens, it was ok for the first 2-3 days, then started to get uncomfortable. Would changing to focus or B&L daily toric lens be better?

hi, no harm trying. besides its daily lens which u will use for 1 day only, and u will not encounter the same problem as u use new lens everyday.

i dont recommend focus daily normal or toric lens because its very difficult to take out after put on eyes. B&L daily is much better because it is easy to handle and has HD vision too. thanks

Hey guys I encounter something baffling.
I have worn monthly Cl for a month now. Then Monday I try to put on fresh lens and surprisingly the new lens (left) doesn't give the sharp vision the previous one did. The vision feels weird with it and shadowy.
So I gave it a good rub at night after wearing for day and then stored it for a day. Then just now I tried again still no good, I then took it out and clean for several time until now it actually burns when put into the eye.

I just don't understand the difference in vision clarity compare to previous piece. The previous piece is the foc piece that normally comes with a box.
Then the problematic piece is fromthe box.

Is it possible for lens to have manufacturing defects?

yes, all lens have a risk of manufacturing defect. some are more serious like ur case mentioned above, u should bring the lens back to the optical shop and ask them to have a look at the defect lens and ask for free replacement.

do u mind sharing with us here what lens are u using now? thanks

It's me again

I'm trying my trial lenses for the first time now.

Problem is, this store doesn't seem to have much knowledge on lenses. Last week I asked for Acuvue toric lenses but surprisingly they said that Acuvue didn't have any toric model in the market (WTF?) then they suggested B&L Toric, it took almost a week to arrive, they said that it's hard to get because of my high astigmatism, -3.00 on glasses, but they reduced it to -2.25 for contact lenses (is it correct?). Today it arrived and they asked me to collect it, when I came there, they surprised me again by giving me lower Astigmatisim power (-1.75) because they couldn't get anything above that for daily B&L toric lenses. They gave me a trial pair that I've been wearing until now... but seriously, it's blurry... too blurry to read small texts like this forum on small laptop. They said I could return the boxes as long as it remains unopened, I'm planning to call them tomorrow and return it, I don't feel comfortable with this store's service... even more because the guy there was kinda impatient when teaching me to wear the lenses, and looked a bit upset after I failed putting the lenses on my eyes several times.

Anyway what bothered me the most was that they could just inform me when the spec they ordered wasn't available, and not ordering the lower power one like this.

I was expecting better service from this store because I knew the name of the store from this thread, and jialat recommended this store in a post before, although the branch I visited isn't the one jialat mentioned.

For informational purpose I'll mention the name of the store in spoiler.

P.S.: the lenses are okay, comfy enough, but what's the point of lenses with astigmatism power lower than what I need?

hi, u missed out a word, but they should know there is acuvue oasys toric in the market, so -1 for them. Its healthier than B&L toric for sure, its silicone hydrogel lens and can wear for overnight.

B&L toric lens always has problem with late delivery esp for those high astig power.

for the astigmatism power adjustment, its depend on ur short-sighted power too, if myopia power is high, yes i agree it should be reduced to -2.25 but not -1.75 unless myopia power is above -9.00. They should order monthly toric for u as power for astig is up to -2.75. Daily toric has lesser choice on astig power but like u mentioned, no point wearing a blur lens.

as for my recommendation, pls just stick to the branch i mentioned, same shop name but different branch can be very different in terms of skill, experience, and service. In every recommendation i made, i specified the person u should look for, and not just any1 in that shop please. thanks

What I found out is that most contact lens are the same pattern, but different brands?
Does that mean manufacturer produce them and wholesaler/retailer do the branding?

hi, all manufacturers have different design and pattern for their lenses but material can be the same. Of course there are some lens that sold in optical chain store are actually same as certain brand in the market, as they order from same manufacturer and do their own branding. However for big players like B&L, ciba vision and J&J, they made their own lens and dont share with others as OEM. thanks

jialat, they replaced my daily B&L Toric with monthly Sauflon Toric... they said they didn't have Acuvue ones. What do you think of this brand?

Today is the 2nd day I'm wearing the trial pair, comfortable enough already (I think my eyes adapt quickly)... the store said that this time they gave me the accurate powers, exactly the same as the powers they measured with slit lamp.

Vision is better now, however I still feel that vision is still not as perfect as when I'm wearing glasses, e.g.: little texts are not sharp enough, not as crisp as when I wear glasses. Is this normal? is it going to be better as the time goes by? Can a pair of contact lenses give me exactly the same vision quality as a pair of glasses?

I'm afraid that the store didn't give accurate prescription sad.gif, though I already told them to give me a pair of contact lenses equivalent to my glasses, and they said they've made the prescription based on both slit lamp check and my glasses.

Which Malaya Optical branch and which person do you recommend, jialat? I'm considering telling the current store that I'd like to move to a different branch if they have more skilled optometrist there. I just want contact lenses that can give me the same vision quality as my glasses, is that difficult? sad.gif

Sorry for asking too much jialat, you've been very helpful I really appreciate it.

hi, sauflon toric is not too bad. u can try it out 1st before switching to another brand unless u really cant bear the bluriness of vision.

if u have high power, either shortsightedness or astigmatism, worse if both are high, then vision is definitely worse than spectacle. Only semi-hard lens can give u the same or better vision than glasses, but its not quite comfortable because its semi hard lens.

the only malaya optical i would recommend is the 1 in Jalan tun h.s.lee in KL, look for mr K.M. HO. He is the most experience optometrist in the whole malaya optical. i think he will put u on semi hard lens if ur cornea permits it, so that vision is as good as ur glasses. thanks

Yes both shortsightedness and astigmatism are high (about -6.00 & -3.00, respectively) sad.gif

By hard lenses, do you mean GP lenses? is that okay for first timer like me? I never wore any contact lenses before. If it's okay to go straight from glasses to GP lenses, then I'd consider that.

Thanks

yes, its GP lens. its recommended for 1st timer, but because many ppl now prefer a comfortable lens, so soft lens is seek more commonly.

u should consider GP lens. thanks

I consulted Mr. Ho yesterday, he did various checks and said to try different brands & slight power changes first before considering GP lenses.

If I had to choose monthly Toric lenses, what brand/model do you recommend for extended wearing, and mostly in dry rooms?

Hi, i would advise u to try biweekly acuvue oasys toric, very comfortable yet suitable for dry eyes. Of course the price is slightly higher. If u really want monthly extended wear toric lens, then u can choose purevision toric with high definition vision but not so comfortable as lens is hard but not as hard as GP lens. 2nd choice monthly toric is Air optix toric, nothing special about it, may be just slightly more comfortable than purevision toric. Thanks

ok, will pm u the name & price of the lens.

there is no silicone hydrogel lens that can control the power, only semi hard lens or rigid lens can do that.
