Hi Jialat,

very informative thread!

I've been wearing specs for a long long time (more than 10 years, since Junior High School)

I've never been bothered with contact lenses whatsoever, but now strangely getting very interested and willing to try.

FYI, I'm shortsighted (L: -5.25 R: -4.75) and high astigmatism of 3.00 (or -3.00? can't remember, lost the last prescription already) for both eyes. Mostly working with computer in air-conditioned rooms, and I'm planning to wear contact lenses most of the time. From reading the whole thread, I found that Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism would fit me, but reading from their website they only have power from -0.75 to -2.25 for Astigmatism. Could you recommend me suitable contact lenses? and recommended optometrist for me in KL area (preferably anywhere nearby LRT/monorail stations)

Also, can you guess my Astigmatism, is it 3.00 or -3.00? I clearly remember the number from my last prescription, it was 3.00 but forgot whether it had minus sign or not, and I have no knowledge on Astigmatism (does it also have +/- sign?)

Thanks in advance.

It's me again

I'm trying my trial lenses for the first time now.

Problem is, this store doesn't seem to have much knowledge on lenses. Last week I asked for Acuvue toric lenses but surprisingly they said that Acuvue didn't have any toric model in the market (WTF?) then they suggested B&L Toric, it took almost a week to arrive, they said that it's hard to get because of my high astigmatism, -3.00 on glasses, but they reduced it to -2.25 for contact lenses (is it correct?). Today it arrived and they asked me to collect it, when I came there, they surprised me again by giving me lower Astigmatisim power (-1.75) because they couldn't get anything above that for daily B&L toric lenses. They gave me a trial pair that I've been wearing until now... but seriously, it's blurry... too blurry to read small texts like this forum on small laptop. They said I could return the boxes as long as it remains unopened, I'm planning to call them tomorrow and return it, I don't feel comfortable with this store's service... even more because the guy there was kinda impatient when teaching me to wear the lenses, and looked a bit upset after I failed putting the lenses on my eyes several times.

Anyway what bothered me the most was that they could just inform me when the spec they ordered wasn't available, and not ordering the lower power one like this.

I was expecting better service from this store because I knew the name of the store from this thread, and jialat recommended this store in a post before, although the branch I visited isn't the one jialat mentioned.

For informational purpose I'll mention the name of the store in spoiler.

P.S.: the lenses are okay, comfy enough, but what's the point of lenses with astigmatism power lower than what I need?

jialat, they replaced my daily B&L Toric with monthly Sauflon Toric... they said they didn't have Acuvue ones. What do you think of this brand?

Today is the 2nd day I'm wearing the trial pair, comfortable enough already (I think my eyes adapt quickly)... the store said that this time they gave me the accurate powers, exactly the same as the powers they measured with slit lamp.

Vision is better now, however I still feel that vision is still not as perfect as when I'm wearing glasses, e.g.: little texts are not sharp enough, not as crisp as when I wear glasses. Is this normal? is it going to be better as the time goes by? Can a pair of contact lenses give me exactly the same vision quality as a pair of glasses?

I'm afraid that the store didn't give accurate prescription sad.gif, though I already told them to give me a pair of contact lenses equivalent to my glasses, and they said they've made the prescription based on both slit lamp check and my glasses.

Which Malaya Optical branch and which person do you recommend, jialat? I'm considering telling the current store that I'd like to move to a different branch if they have more skilled optometrist there. I just want contact lenses that can give me the same vision quality as my glasses, is that difficult? sad.gif

Sorry for asking too much jialat, you've been very helpful I really appreciate it.

Yes both shortsightedness and astigmatism are high (about -6.00 & -3.00, respectively) sad.gif

By hard lenses, do you mean GP lenses? is that okay for first timer like me? I never wore any contact lenses before. If it's okay to go straight from glasses to GP lenses, then I'd consider that.

Thanks

I consulted Mr. Ho yesterday, he did various checks and said to try different brands & slight power changes first before considering GP lenses.

If I had to choose monthly Toric lenses, what brand/model do you recommend for extended wearing, and mostly in dry rooms?

jialat, I'm going to try another brand this weekend, in hope that I can get rid of the blurriness that I have with this Sauflon Toric.

I have another curious question,

My specs prescription (power & cyl respectively):
L: -5.75 -3.00
R: -4.75 -2.00

For contact lenses, they converted it to:
L: -5.50 -2.25
R: -4.50 -1.75

My question is, why does my right cylinder only get reduced by 0.25 (from -2.00 to -1.75), whereas my left cylinder gets reduced by 0.75 (from -3.00 to -2.25)?

Is that because cylinder -2.25 is the highest regular soft lenses have? if yes, would it improve my vision if I could get higher one (possibly -2.50 or -2.75?)

Thanks

I just found out that when looking up, my vision is much sharper than normal, so bowing my head down a bit and then looking straight forward gives me the vision that I want from my current lenses. Can you explain why?

I'm starting to wear PureVision Toric now smile.gif

Mind recommending the most suitable solution and eye drops brands for these contact lenses? and where to buy in KL.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jialat I've been using PureVision Toric for 4 months, I'm on my last pair. I would like to try biweekly Acuvue Oasys Toric with the same parameter (I'll PM you later the parameter, because the prescription is at home). How much is it? Please PM me the quotation and where can I COD with you?

I'm toric lenses wearer.
Tried SoftLens Toric, PureVision Toric, Bioclear Toric - Neither satisfied me (not comfortable)

Now using Oasys Toric - Quite satisfied and comfortable.

The only problem with Acuvue is its hefty price in the long run.
Do you think there are other brands that can give me at least the same level of comfort with Oasys Toric? I'm considering to try Air Optix.

Hi jialat, I'm going to restock my Biofinity Toric... I'm on the last pair now.

I'm considering buying more boxes for longer term (1-2 years)...
Do you think it's OK to stock that many? When do contact lenses expire?

Hi Jialat, glad to be your customer since mid-2012, sadly I'll be leaving Malaysia for good next month so I'm placing my last order from you. Please check your inbox and thank you for the great service in the past 2 years.

@jialat I sent you a PM.

I'm wondering why Biofinity Toric that is sold in Japan is only in 2-week package. The one that I always bought from you is 1-month package. What's with this difference?

QUOTE(jialat @ Aug 10 2015, 04:54 PM)
Malaysia is considered as third world country, so cooper vision market it here as monthly disposable, while in japan the so called 1st world county, which is popular daily lens, they market it as 2 weekly lens, the same case like bausch & lomb soflens toric.

Are you saying that the MY version and JP version are identical, but only being marketed differently? (1 month vs 2-week)?
In other words, I could wear the JP version for 30 days?

But either way, your price is still cheaper cool2.gif
