no that's no capped yet, maybe 3g is down at your place, wait for an hour or so and try again,

when you got capped the network still in 3g or hsdpa, only the speed is reduce..

The Celcom bb sim card just need to sms to activate, so hsdpa modem got sims card slot like hp ka?

Yes. The modem has a slot for you to put in the SIM CARD.

Anyway, Since this is prepaid broadband where maximum speed already capped where in 3G about 384kbps.
Even you have a hsdpa enabled phone the speed also 384kbps.
Therefore, for economy can get any cheap 3G phone is ok already.

I do see the HSDPA modem is price drop now. Just back from Jaya 32 Square for the Handphone Fair.
The modem is about RM239.

celcom student broadband like upax also have. rm50 per month. speed UMTS.

Johan, the above information is verified. Too bad because the promotion ended 30 May 2009 which is yesterday. I managed to take the offer a day before the closing date. =)

May i know how to configure my laptop connect to my 3g phone using bluetooth then use my phone to use the prepaid SinCARD as modem??

tried to contact celcom careline and they said system is ok. asked me to rebook my pc and also use different USB slot for the stick. but yet still cannot connect. its says error718.

however when i set to GSM it can connect...

what is happening i wonder?

Hi guys, read the thread, just wanted to clarify something.

I got streamyx at home already, I do my heavy downloading on that. I just want an additional connection to use at work (will be used on personal laptop), because the office is heavily firewalled and block everything: no youtube, no facebook, no bursa saham, no checking out rental/real estate websites, etc... very restrictive.

From what I read, the daily prepaid broadband plan sounds what I want. I'll most likely be using it to surf 2-3 hours at the office each day during lunch and a few minutes here and there between meetings.

I already have a laptop. So I'm guessing I need to buy a USB modem before I can go buy the starter pack for the Celcom prepaid broadband, right? I'm not interested in using 3G phone as modem - I already have a phone and don't plan to change it.

So I figure my costs will be:
(1) USB modem... recommended models? price?
(2) the starter pack for Celcom prepaid broadband
(3) I'll probably be using the weekly plan ($20), this means $20 x 4 = $80 per month, correct?

That's all I need right? At least that's the impression I got after going through this thread and the Celcom links. Problem is I don't know anyone who's using this service so I dunno what to expect.

1. Any hsdpa usb modems will do the job. Price starting from rm200 and above on Garage Sales thread. Most Common ones are Huawei brand that of e220 and the K series. K series allow you to slot a microSD (thus a modem that acts as your thumbdrive too) Oh, try to find the ones which are unlocked (meaning, you can use them with any telcos if you decide to switch ISP in the future)

2. Starter Pack of Celcom Broadband Prepaid is RM25 for a rm20 airtime credit.

3. Yup, correct and the weekly plan comes with a 2GB limit plan.


p/s : my office is heavily firewalled too and blocks almost everything which has become ridiculous. lol.

using daily celcom broadband prepaid rite now at R&R gunung semanggul, fast response on while surfing

finally activated my CBP.
tested it from KL to Penang.

@ KL :
Speed at Cyberjaya/KL is great but latency is bad. Somewhere about 0.37Mbps/0.08Mbps/550ms/4 bar signal

@ Plus Highway:
Coverage is bad. Only managed to use when i'm near to the toll area in KL/Ipoh/Penang. It wont work at any other stretch of the highway even i forced my phone to work in GPRS. My guess is that the setting i used was 3G setting and therefore GPRS don't work.

Speed is below average at the area where i can use. Might be due to the fact that i'm moving at speed of above 80km/h

@ Penang/Kedah :
Speed is average but good latency. 0.33Mbps/0.11Mbps/250ms/2-3 bar signal



Reliability is good so far. The only time i got disconnected is when i ran out of 3G coverage in plus highway. Other than that, the service is so good so far.

I'm using celcom 3g blue. I'm wondering why can't I connect to msn? I read about a solution sometime ago but I can't seem to find it again.
