KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 (Bernama) - Celcom (Malaysia) Bhd eyeing a 120 percent growth in broadband subscribers this year with contribution from its newly launched prepaid mobile broadband service.
With about 270,000 broadband subscribers as of last month, Celcom recorded a 300 percent year-on-year subscriber growth in 2008, its chief operating officer Chee Pok Jin said today.
"We hope that we can do better. Looking at the momentum right now, I think the mobile broadband market is very vibrant and can still grow very fast. So, we hope to beat the number," he said after the launch of Celcom's new broadband prepaid starter pack.
Covering almost 70 percent of the populated area in Malaysia, Celcom is confident that introduction of the new prepaid package will reinforce its position as the country's top broadband provider.
Priced at RM25, the new prepaid starter pack comes with RM20 credit.
Chee said in line with the new service, a new Weekly Unlimited package would be made available for customers to enjoy unlimited Internet access for a week at RM20.
"This is on top of the existing Daily Unlimited package, priced at RM6 for 24 consecutive hours of broadband access," he said.
To further strengthen its position in broadband services, Celcom will also introduce a new all-in-one deal, with customers receiving a Hewlett-Packard notebook or netbook computer plus the Celcom broadband monthly data plan and Celcom-Vodafone USB (universal serial bus) stick.
Under the package, customers will pay RM159 a month (for notebook) or RM88 a month (for netbook), Chee said.

If it's the same speed with D68, then it's quite reasonable for RM20 a week because in total u are paying RM80 if u used it for 4 weeks. Good package and I am going to try it if someday in the future my internet broke down haha.

Then it is 384kbps as expected. They wont be giving faster speed 3.6Mbps. Or they lose profit. Still profitable but less...

Is the RM25.00 pack reloadable, and is there an expiry date for usage and reload upon first use?
It sounds very much like a Celcom XPax thing. Buy a pack for RM10.00 and it has a credit of RM5.00. Load it up, and you can use it for broadband for RM6.00 a day. Supports voice and SMS as well, and gotta reload every 30 days to keep it alive.
Difference is with XPax prepaid there is no RM20.00 deal for 7 days' use, and upon the expiry of 24 hours the charge goes by volume.
