I know this question will be rather stupid but I will ask anyway, what is the maximum voltage that I can/allowed to pump in so that I won't 'kill' my card.

humm, i guess it is the same as the vcore(<1.45 on air), keep your card cool when overvolt..

well dont over volt too much , do it progressively

one shot over volt, bye bye your GPU

i got an error launching the 3D Vantage... saying DirectX bla... bla... bla... same goes to Battlefield 2 games, other games... seems to be ok, but the one i really pissed, is the GTA IV, in single, i can even set to highest due to large 1GB video memory, but in the CrossFire X... memory detected as 512MB and low quality is selected

u CF wif wad? 4870 ar? but dis 1 nid pikacu's advice ba..i nvr CF anything b4 so i can help =X

It's not about 3dmark points. It's about my crysis all very high setting. It's getting better and better since I started to overclock it slowly. So I really want to see what this card is capable when it is pushed to its max!
I'm aware of the danger, that's why there's like 20 or more tabs opened in my firefox right now and all are about tweaking the 4890 voltage.

I really gonna try it. wish me luck~

i know the feeling of getting more out of your card, for paying almost nothing and just spending time reading and considering many factors. this is why OC is so fun

hopefully u can reach higher settings with higher volt to play Crysis even.... faster than what it is doing now... LOL

yupe won't be greedy cause, I only want to achieve 1GHz and maximize the memory clock to 1200, that's all. But thinking about buying the artic cooler 1st before doing it. It's much more safer, rite?

maybe its some extreme time wif the stock 4890

wat stuffs can i do with it without too much of a cost (below RM 20)
but show around 10% improvement?

depends from what GPU u are migrating from

if u are using old GPU, a sudden migration for 4890 is better than 4870.

the 4890 seems to have more overclocking room as well, reaching near gtx 285 default clocks, which costs about RM1500 today

its worth from old gpu to 4890, but from 4870 to 4890, not really great investment

If i were to use Palit HD 4870 sonic 512mb.. wat is the max resolution of my monitor can be?

HD4870 to HD4890, to me... still a good investment, from the fastest single GPU to the faster fastest single GPU

not to mention the overclocking much more better than the HD4870, higher GPU clock & MEM speed.

eh btw... do you guys any idea how to run perfectly GTA IV with CrossFire X? i mean the game is actually can play in CrossFire X mode, (i even have the CrossFire X enabled logo) on top end corner screen, but i can't make full use for true performance of the card? the game detect up to 500MB video memory buffer instead of 1.5GB or at least 1GB.

the card is HD4890 + HD4870, the HD4890 is the primary with both CrossFire bridge plugged-in.

anything else i'm missing?

In crossfire or SLI the memory detected will be the lowest one. Something like RAID1. When you RAID1 a 80GB HDD with a 120GB one, you will get a RAID1 drive of 80GB, the rest of the space will be unusable.

So if you Crossfire a 512MB Card with a 1GB card, you will get only 512MB also the Core and Mem speeds will be turned to match the lower card. Hence why it is recommend to use the same generation and same type cards and hence why Crossfire between 3870 and 4870 wasnt worth it as well.

so i assume you crossfire 4870 512mb with 4890 1gB?

when you crossfire such configuration...the system will take the lowest amount of gpu memory (512mb in this case) and in order to well-sync with the 2nd card.
