i am planning to go for a hike to a hill near my town. all of my friends are eager to go. let me lay down the circumstances.

1) there's no map for the place
2) though, many people have went there and got back safely. nobody died or got seriously injured before
3) there's 3 of us who have been there before.
4) one of us knows how to read the compass
5) the hill is very near the town center. (there's network coverage)

the thing is that, people around me are not encouraging me to go. they say that we will end up getting lost. but i am up for a little adventure. i really don't know as to whether or not i should lead them. anyone here from Bentong, Pahang? went up there recently?

PS - there was once when my dad got lost, he still manage to call back home to inform us.

Hi AlexLee...there are so many places to go camping. It all boils down to what level if your group at. Do not underestimate our Malaysian Jungle. It is not the easiest place to be in and can be rather daunting.

For school groups, best that you find established places that provide security and safety.

Cheers,

Dear All,

Appreciate your kind input on (actual)camping site available which is not too extreme in Selangor preferably nearby or in Klang Valley, a few friends of mine is planing on a 3d2n camping activity with few girls involved thus some of them have their worries on security and convenience on the camp site (trust convenience wise wont be much of an issue as most of them expect what is to come about when they mean camping).

To those who are lazy to read:-

- I need campsite name/location and procedures (if any to camp there)
- Any useful advice or better past experience

P.S: any1 camped on brogahill before? will it be safe and convenient?

hmm.gif Camping is roughing it out and maybe adventurous to some. If you want a camping site, it must be near a water source. I don't think Broga has a water source eg. by the river banks that are clean and clear. I can think of Ulu Pangsoon which is at the 18th mile Ulu Langat. Entrance is via Cheras near the 11th mile. Safety wise, it is better to have at least one or better, more that are used to camping. The river there is a quite clear and clean and you need to register with the Forestry wardens there so safety wise is OK. I was late once coming out and they sent villagers to look for us.

It is also the starting trail for Gunung Nuang which is the highest peak in Selangor. The entrance is at the Forestry Department in Ulu Pangsoon.
PS. You have to hike 5 kms. to reach the river banks though.

Planning for a camping trip. Saw a few places here like Lata Hammers which would be great.
Anyone can recommend any nice camping locations that has a hike to the camp spot and a location good to camp? not experts but not really new too.

Any location in surrounding states of Melaka would be nice.
Minimal cost would be appreciated.

If you want to go for a camping trip, preferable to go somewhere which is safe. Lata Hammers aint save with lots of people died there before. Do not judge the waterfall by the picture as the waterfall can be as deep as 30 ft.

I have to agree with Aidono on this.
With the current weather, Hammers can be quite dangerous. Not to mention if you camp over the other side and if the water risers, you may not be able to cross back.
Perhaps wait for the weather to be back to normal before going camping there.

And yes, Hammers has claimed lives before. Be very careful.

Keong, you still able to camp there even the water rises during this season (of course not recommended). Once you get down from the slope, move back downwards where all the rocks are and you are able to cross the stream easily. If not, you are asking for trouble as the sand make things unpredictable making you wonder stepping 3ft on the water to a sudden 10ft and so on. Water current are quite strong at Lata Hammer so always beware of that. Do not attempt to go to the rock where a Malaysian flag stuck there unless you think you are a good swimmer.

P/s: Lata Hammer or more known as Lata Perting to some others have an upper fall smile.gif

Hi Aidono...thank you for your comments.

However, I would say that if water rises up stream, the speed and strength of water currents downstream grows exponentially as well.

And when it comes to water based activities, even the greatest swimmer can drown. There are many other factors that can cause a person to drown than just swimming capability. At rivers, waterfalls etc, there are foot entrapment, undercurrent etc. Knowing how to swim helps but taking the extra precautions (rescue aids) may make all the difference.

I would say for Lata Hammers/ Perting, if you wish to go, contact the local people there. There is a camp operator there. They are currently on FB at the below link.

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=341898465652

They do training, camps etc there and I reckon they would probably be your best bet in getting good, reliable advise. They also do employ local Orang Asli to guide people into the jungle and rivers in that area.
Their prices are reasonable.

Have a good trip!
